Many Osmond fans, especially Merrill's, were in complete shock and disbelief, and many would not accept her, unfairly blaming her for "taking him away" from them. Oh, the silliness of youth...lol...where did the years go? Seems like only yesterday...
I remember many wondering if she would do what Yoko Ono had done to John Lennon. Julian Lennon confirmed on the Tonight Show that Yoko broke up the group with her domination over John. But, Mary knew that Merrill did his best work teamed up with Alan and Wayne. Because they had already produced a fantastic concept album about the Gospel together. If you look back at that docu about them going to UK that fall. As they were deplaning, reporters wanted deplaning pictures to run in that evening editions of their papers. She was at the top of the stairs. I remember the expression of pride on her face. He had lots of talent, but it was at its fullest when he worked with Alan and Wayne.
How very, very sweet, and it’s the first I’ve heard of Merrill’s voice in 38 years; it sounds very similar to his original. Yes, he is clearly singing along with the old track, for those criticizing and saying he is lip syncing. So, what’s the problem? Enjoy the performance and the sweetness of the moment. I did. 💖

Her second marriage ended because he ended up being a control freak and an abuser. All that time, because they shared a son. Steve (who did not remarry), and Marie had a friendship that never ended, to where her other children would turn to Steve when they needed help. They remarried after the children kept inviting him to to noun them in family outings...and they rekindled their love. As with Jay and Kandilyn (had three sons), not sure what happened there, but they are both remarried to wonderful people and are very happy. I'm not sure with the Tom and Viril, but I know people with 50 years of marriage who divorced for health issues.

He's not lip synching, he is singing along with the original recording. His voice has changed over the years and he doesn't have a track in the key he would currently sing in. So, rather than not do the song, he sang with the original recording. It was a very special moment between Merrill and Mary. Such a sweet couple.
