People sometimes compare the Osmonds with the Jackson 5, which really doesn't make sense. Other than the fact that the Jacksons passed on "One Bad Apple", the two groups didn't sound anything alike. That's because Michael sang lead on most of the Jackson songs, while Merrill sang lead on most of the Osmond songs. I suppose if Donny had sang lead, then I could see more of a similarity. They made the right choice in selecting brother Merrill to sing lead vocals; he's brilliant whether he's singing Pop or Rock or Country or Whatever.
They were great performers and so cute❤❤❤❤🎉🎉. my favourites were Merrill and Donny. After Merrill got married he let himself go and got old way before his time.😢😢😢😢❤❤❤🎉
He was a fantastic rock out lead vocal on the BEST heavy rock driving rhythm song they ever did together as the Osmond Brothers......”Hold Her Tight.” And it gets NO radio play ANYWHERE.

Errol always had the best voice. Donny was my teen idol; but I knew even then as a kid that Merrill had the best voice. Donny was cute and is a consummate showman. All of the brothers were uniquely talented. Their brotherly harmonies were so special!

It is so sad that the Osmonds rock and roll careers got derailed by MGM's Mike Curb and other music exects who used Donny's childhood ( boy next door) good looks to concentrate on. The Osmonds motto was they supported anyone upfront as long as they were an Osmond. I felt for the Osmond family. Wayne wanted a Rock and Roll career. Alan,Merrill and Wayne wanted to write those Rocking songs. Donny just wanted to perform with his brothers. I remember an interview with Donny. He hated it when Alan would pull him out behind his keyboard. Alan was told by the exects that Donny needed to be out front more. Countless interviews were of people asking just Donny questions. The brothers took a total backseat when the Donny&Marie show started. Nowadays,the Osmonds do not perform anymore together. Only three are still performing - Merrill,Marie and Donny.

They were at their best when Merrill was lead singer. Donny may have been the bubblegum cutie, but that was just a fad. Donny would have went on with better success if he stayed with his brothers and did their rock album the industry wouldn't record for fear of ruining Donny's bubblegum image.

Donny & Marie had the star power. They had the IT factor. Interesting . . . when they signed on with MGM records, they tried all the brothers voices, but ultimately they picked Merrill to be the lead. He had a great sound.
