    The fact that she has the inmates on chairs and she,as the interviewer is on the floor speaks volumes. She made them not only very comfortable to open up to her but she placed them on a much higher level than her, seemingly to give them self worth, remind them they are still humans and worth while. Commendable.

      Somehow I have to disagree with you. Although yoir insights do make sense... Putting yourself down to rise someone up sounds like something someone who has low self respect would do. They where demonstrating how to "spice the food up". Therefore they have to be on a chair. Kind of like when you watch a musical, they are the stage. The interviewe's choice to be on the floor is a choice. No need to put to much insight into it.

    These people, no matter what crimes they've committed, have a right to edible food that they can stomach. Tasteless or flavourless food is one thing, but rotten, moulded food is out of the question. It's a crime to serve that to a living, breathing person.

      I agree…but tax dollars shouldn’t prioritize how tasty jail food should be…if it meets the nutrition requirements then it’s okay.

    Before you get all "Club Med" or "Taj Mahal" in your reply, I am in no way suggesting plush conditions. That said, I have never understood the mentality of "They're in prison, therefore they don't deserve good food, comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, etc." There are a lot of people in prison for non-violent crimes. There are also innocent people in prison. And even for the hard criminals, how has feeding them shitty food, and making them sit in day old piss while they shit, helped them "learn their lesson"? Being locked up, taken away from all of the freedoms, family, friends, your job is something that most of these people deserve, absolutely. But we taxpayers are spending way too much $ for these prisoners to live in such filthy and poor conditions. Even prisoners can be treated humanely, while serving a deserved sentence.

    • @MrDodger3222
      @MrDodger3222 9 лет назад +2

      I agree with you. If them losing their freedom alone isn't going to scare them away from committing a crime, then nothing will so I don't get why people think making prison conditions tougher is going to help lower the recidivism rate.

    It's kinda tiring explaining to people that criminals, contrary to popular belief, are human beings as well. If you wanna complain about them "wanting gourmet meals" or "they deserve it for being criminals" I really suggest you educate yourself. Because one, they just want food that won't kill them. And two, most of them are in for nonviolent crimes. Probably about half are in for pot. Some of them aren't even guilty, and awaiting sentencing. And especially the ones in the interview...

    When I was in prison we had something called cracked wheat it was something like oatmeal but different. On the side of the bags that it came in it said not for human consumption, I guess it was really for farm animals only. But they still served it up. It was horrible. Oatmeal with these little things in it that looked like small worms. And it also had these things in it that looked like peices of corn. Nasty shit we had to eat two or three days a week. I always wondered how can they serve it. It says plainly on the side of the bag not for human consumption.

    Growing up we’re all told “don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time” but that honestly had never stopped any criminal from committing crimes. If you REALLY want crime to go down, for even just a small percentage: show episodes and documentaries like this to every middle and/or high-school student for a one semester course. Show them the gang wars that occur on a weekly basis, show them the guards in mens prisons that STAND THERE AND WATCH when a fight breaks out and a man is left alone to fight to the death.
    And on the final day of the course, take them to the worst prison in the area.
    Something tells me a course like that is going to make people think twice.

    You do something fucked up, you go to jail/prison. You're still a human, just because you made a mistake does not mean you should be treated any less of a human. The point of incarceration is to punish you for a crime, rather than teaching you the correct way to go about things. America has the highest rate of people that get released from jail only to come back within a couple months. I don't think you should be getting 5 star meals in prison, however it is not a "luxury" to be getting a balanced meal of proteins, grains, fruit/vegetables and dairy, especially in a country that wastes so much food. Nobody deserves rotten, moldy food. That's inhumane. Don't get me started on how people end up in prison over petty shit, and how at least 50% of the people there should be on parole rather than 25 to life. The system is fucked, and you can't say shit about it if your little privileged ass hasn't dealt with it.

    • @sylviabennan
      @sylviabennan 2 года назад

      The system is and has been fucked for decades, but hey, that’s capitalism. It’s rigged for repeat offenders. Most prison systems are private-owned, and just about want inmates to come back.
