Kleiber learned to conduct in Stuttgart. He was the greatest conductor of the 20th century and was deadly serious about music. During his entire professional career, he only granted two interviews.
CK regarding this concert to Charles Barber: "I overdid the "no hands" gag, (Reference to Leonard Bernstein conducting with only his eyes) because there was a distinguished shitty colleague (I found out he was referring to Claudio Abbado) sitting in the box next to me and I wanted to show off, dammit. Luckily, no one was looking at me, and its only a polite gesture when they (the musicians) look up at you every now and then. Don't ask for it. You will also notice that the Seconds (Violins) are to the right of the Firsts, where they should be, and you will also love the wacky bowing in Brahms 2!"
33:26 and suddenly these 3 persons on the balcony talking to each other at this heavenly moment ....... how is this possible ????? WHEN I HAD THE RARE CHANCE TO GO TO SUCH AN HISTORICAL CONCERT WITH MY WIFE, I FORGET THAT I HAVE A WIFE AND THAT I HAVE CHILDREN.
31:40 .... did you ever hear a more perfect "Anfang" (beginning) of a symphony ? With the emotional exceptions of the Furtwänglerian style, the inner granitic nudity of Klemperer, and the soft humanity of Walter ? I did not . But I speak here only of the pure apollinian form, Kleiber's Garden. And it's irresistible to me.
31:24 - Brahms 2: I. Allegro non troppo 46:25 - Brahms 2: II. Adagio non troppo 56:13 - Brahms 2: III. Allegretto grazioso (Quasi Andantino) 1:01:31 - Brahms 2: IV.
I suppose absence makes the heart grows fonder. Yet true , but the conductors view would be familiarity breeds contempt. Still I love this almost unique pairing of these two over mozarts music.
@@alexandrebidaud3289 Well Mr. Kleiber was certainly not the chief conductor nor was he principal guest conductor, and there are reasons behind that. So I'm sure those reasons belong to him and the orchestras' alone.
If only he had made a few more records. Wonderful, wonderful director.
@@daniele.m1968 He didn't have time and he wasn't interested.

Everything flows so naturally. That's the way it was when I played La Traviata with Kleiber in the 80s.

Which orchestra were you part of? The Bavarian Staatsoper/Met/Maggio Fiorentino?

Top Mozart performance under Top conductor of this century
...and Brahms
Bellissimo! Fresco, pulito, travolgente! Bravo! Bravo!

He just made conducting look so easy
Mi Director preferido, perfección total!
Great Carlos tells the orchestra and the audience what is music and Brahms to his soul
I heard other recordings of Brahms' 2nd, but this tops them all.
The movements, gestures, and communication of conducting are themselves works of art.
BREATTHAKING CONDUCTOR❤❤❤ MANY THANKS TO OUR BELOVED RUclips‼‼‼🧡❤💛

Maybe they are precisely commenting THAT too... afterall, it is their problem...
Absolutely fantastic

Kleiber es un Director fantástico. La Obra magnífica 😂!! Gracias 😁
I am afraid that he doesnt not really turn me on.

6:25 He was number 1: He was able to conduct the orchestra without moving.
That's absolutely true!

Bravo Kometani last Brahms
there‘s really a tuba.
He could have recorded all Mozart's symphonies, "Don Giovanni", "Nozze di Figaro", "Così fan tutte".... AARGHHHH!!!!!!
Anyone know the year?
I wrote the date: 6 October 1991.
Mechanical and metronomic
😅😅😅 Do you have a metronome in your brain ?
Poor soul !!!

Österreichische Lösung, wirkt aber galaktisch ... Ironie weggelassen -- denke so schlampig sollte es erst jmd nachahmen
