Another great video Matt. What I really appreciate is the fact that you show and actually do the work and repairs yourself while getting the job done well. The only tracking setting that matters is the sum of the toe on the left and the right wheel. When you turn the steering wheel, one gets bigger and the other smaller so, unlike all the other alignment settings the absolute value on either wheel is just telling you which way the steering wheel is slightly pointing. If you point your hands in or out a bit and then picture dragging them along a surface it starts to make sense.

That disc did indeed not have any oil or grease on it. More discs now are given that matte finish, which is a light layer of electroplating (I think) that protects the disc without the need for grease. The electroplating simply wears off the first few times you use the brakes. Keeps the disc hat looking fresh for longer as well.
Enjoyed this video, we have all been there with parts that don't fit.... one advantage of the motor factors is you can swap them immediately, with fleabay you'd be waiting ages. I've the knee pads pants aswell and it only took me 20 years to learn the hard way.

Local motor factors much better and quite competitive these days.
My late Uncle had the very same 5-large-hole steel wheels on his Powder Blue 1982 (X reg) 245 GLE Estate. I didn't know they were carried over to the 740. The earliest 2.3 GL/GLE (B to D plate) 740's were given a completely new steel-wheel design. 14 inch 10-square-hole design, usually coming with bright trim rings and bright dog-dish centre covers. So maybe these older wheels made their return when the 2.0 litre 740 came out mid '87 I'm sure.
Oh, and @ 2:07 to 2:25 I could smell that strong, unmistakeable Cellulose paint just by watching you paint the wheels. Yes, you MUST paint them, otherwise next time you take the wheels off, they will be dirty and HORRIBLY surface-corroded due to no protection. Another great, productive video. I'm enjoying following your projects.

I seem to recall there where thickness stampings on the underside. But You probalbly can see how to in a Haynes manual. Now, it can be the rodbearings too, but...
Bearings on only 140,000 miles? its barely run in! I don think it sounds as smooth on the video as it does in real life but worth checking when I do the rocker gasket
@@furiousdriving nah, the rodbearings should be okey with those miles, but the late B200-230 got narrower bearings in an attempt to lessen the fuelconsumption, those rods aren't good for enhanced tuned engines. But for a standard engine they should be more than adecvate.
Eurocar parts are famous for getting parts wrong, you can give them the reg no, the vin number and they will still supply the wrong parts. At 175 pounds it is a steal, you would mad if you didn't use it. Volvo is one those brands which keep the value at around 1000 pounds no matter in what state. At least, the Swedish ones...
Maybe it looks cool, but it destroys its uniq feature - floaty comfort. I live in Europe, where roads are in a very bad condition, and you know what, my 740 eats up every bump like some of the old Mercedes. I have owned so many cars from Mercedes, BMW, VW, Audi and right now i have newer Volvos, but these old ones with their original suspension are brilliant. And suspesion is one of the reasons i kept my 740 turbo, because i can just fly over bumps and holes, it just just dont feel them, so if you want to slam a car, use the right way with air suspension and ride hight contorl.
Very good. I wonder how much new brake shields are? Yours looked incredibly ropey and shaley. That rust shale don't half graunch when it gets between a pad and disc. Just nit-picking.

At 175 pounds it is a steal, you would mad if you didn't use it. Volvo is one those brands which keep the value at around 1000 pounds no matter in what state. At least, the Swedish ones...
Lovely Jubbly, impressive for its age matey.
Great video really kept me biting my nails on the edge of my seat 😃👍👍👍
Epic video. Funny how new decent tyres, apart from their safety, grip and performance, just look better 👍🙂
Totally, I love the look of a new set of tyres!
Glad to see the Volvo is getting a bit of TLC. The old girl deserves it. Keep up the good work.
"Leaning like a ship taking on water" - With those leaky screen seals, there's more truth to that statement than you initially think! :-D
These old cars keep getting better looking as they age.
Stunning machine that is, love the vids so much!
great video, so glad i found you! You just sold me those tyres :)
Excellent, you wont be disappointed
Coool seats hey!
Wait is this iduubz long lost brother I just can't shake that feeling
There is a Volvo est 740 on ebay for sale at the moment if I didn't have my 11 plate focus I might have gone and have a look at it
Cheng Shin Tyre... even on my wheelchair those wear fast, in past I had those..
Volvo 740's look cool when they are slammed!
An evil part of my mind had been googling slammed 700s...
To make caliper access easier you should have put steering on full lock to the left.
Nice to see the TLC continue. Your gonna find it hard to part with this car when the time comes.
love watch your videos and saving classics 😎👍
Very good. I wonder how much new brake shields are? Yours looked incredibly ropey and shaley. That rust shale don't half graunch when it gets between a pad and disc. Just nit-picking.
I didn't know you were in Maidstone! That's my hometown, although I live in Southampton now :(
looks nice with green mold at 19.34 in the vid lol My dad had one of theses things built like a tank lol
thats patina!
Great video.
The more I watch these Volvo videos the more I want to buy one.
I once drove one of these and it was like driving a block of flats.
I was thinking more like an aircraft carrier
furiousdriving An aircraft carrier is more manoeuvrable.
I need one of those induction heaters. Could you post a link. Nice to meet you last Sunday in Crawley Down.
I need to know about the induction heater for stuck bolts too!
Here's the link to one on Amazon that Matt uses (complete with his Amazon affiliation link!) www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01BMZ0RCW/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=B01BMZ0RCW&linkCode=as2&tag=furiousdrivin-21&linkId=17e421f2107da72bbb6559fd4e49684d
@@mailjabber See my other comment. :)
Just added to the description and its here too: amzn.to/2KTrDYV Not cheap but the hours of effort and potential trips to a garage thanks to a stuck bolt make it pay over the years
@@SuperFIFTHGEAR They're £100 cheaper from various sellers on ebay.
I got distracted, because at 3:56 - 4:01 some dude suddenly appeared in the background near the bins, then just as suddenly disappeared...then at 9:35, a white van heading your way suddenly disappeared as well: that's some prestidigitation you've got going.
Its surprisingly busy down this road, its not possible do more than a few seconds with out stuff moving in the background sadly
