  • Kyle and Jordan are in Las Vegas for CES 2022 where BMW kindly pulled out an i4 for them to take for a quick drive! This is the first opportunity where we are able to test this car and we are sure there are plenty more in-depth EV testing videos to come. One thing to note is that the guys were saying M50"I" however since this is not a combustion vehicle it's just M50.

    Forgive me for saying M50i - it shouldn’t have the “i” as it’s not a combustion vehicle. Old habits! Anyway, I truly enjoyed this vehicle. I need to get this back to back against Model 3 Performance on track and see what’s what. Hopefully we can film quite a bit with the new BMW EVs coming out!

    I think what a lot of Tesla and EV fanatics don't understand is the value of solidity. They'll quote range and acceleration and say this car costs so much and our EV is faster and gets better range. But so what? As long as you get strong performance and reasonable range you still get what you pay for in a car. And EVs are cars. You pay for quality, finish, materials, chassis development, body solidity and so forth and not just range and performance. This is a seriously premium car and yeah, it costs serious money. Thanks for the review.

    Some Tesla fans in the comments saying that the Model 3 Performance is faster and better preforming. True but not enough it's less than a car length difference. Plus the carwow race showed the BMW to win. The BMW is 1000 lbs heavier and still performs on par with the Tesla while giving a better build quality, very good tech, and way better luxury. Personally I would rather buy an BMW m4 until they make the electric M cars on a electric platform like the ix and ixm60.

You can use a slider to choose your driving ranging from 100% city to 100% motorways, set the outside temperature and airconditioning and you get a range for your settings. So on the motorways (At around 75mph) at colder temperatures you should get around 340km range.

Once a taller person gets in the driver’s seat the person in the rear will need to sit on the other side or sideways. The bottom of the driver’s seat is almost grinding the bottom of your shin. The back seat rest is nearly if not 90 degrees. It looks as if you’re at a parent teacher night sitting in your child’s desk. Now that I’ve seen you adjust the chair to your seating position the only one sitting behind you are groceries and office folders. Climate controls ate something that need to be easily accessible so physical controls would really help reduce driver distraction. It looks like the torque is really strong but it also looks hella bouncy. I’d like to see some of these four door coupes give some of that trunk room back to rear seat occupants. There’s no need to have luggage room for five if the vehicle only seats three people.

    The unique thing about this vehicle is possibly the rear Externally Excited Synchronous Motor EESM (the only other "volume" vehicle was Renault Zoe 2nd gen) vs. the more ubiquitous Int. permanent magnet motor (mostly Nd-Dy based) or the now less popular or secondary only induction motor.
    EESM = Behaves like a PM motor without actual PM at the cost of a small external current excitation to keep the rotor synchronized with the stator's rotational field. Curious to learn about real world range test

    Was going to order one, but it is the first time I actually walked out of the dealership. It started of great by having to wait 30 minutes even though I had an appointment. When going over the numbers I realised the prices had just gone up 10% compared to a few weeks ago when I enquired. The salesman told me they have to charge more from BMW, but it only applies to the i4. So I had no other choice than to walk away. Guess the 330e and X3 options are also off the table and this will be remembered in the future.
    In my country the prices aren't a habit. They have a 330e discounted with a 26% discount and a 7 series with 35% off.

    I honestly would rather go and spend my money on a C-class or an EQS. I say this because I just think BMW and there design language is a hot mess with this generation. The exteriors on almost all of there sedans besides the 5 & 7 series are just off. The interiors on all 3 EV models are absolutely hideous and it just looks very unorthodox almost like a concept car. I think right now Mercedes-Benz is the only company out of the three that’s doing a great job with this new generation and even the generation prior. BMW has to change there design language quickly because it’s being stomped on by the competition.

    • @KungPowEnterFist
      @KungPowEnterFist 2 года назад

      Tell us how you really feel, lol. Mercedes was basically out of the electric game a "generation ago," and if of these three brands one has lost its mojo its Mercedes. Before you jump to conclusions, I have a Mercedes parked in my driveway. I think some of the brand new Mercedes models coming out now and soon are trying to get some of that mojo back and the interiors especially look like they are from outer space. But BMW has a huge head start on Mercedes in the EV game, and the cars/SUVs are just plain better all around. Sorry, but its true. It very much feels like Mercedes is the one trying to gimmick its way back in mushroom seats and shag carpet. Yuck. The best thing Mercedes has going for it right now is the 2022 C300 PHEV, but I'm afraid they may have missed the boat on that. Releasing that 3-4 years ago that would have been the trick for a lot of folks not looking to go full EV but wanting a transition car to help them get there, and they would have been mid-cycle refreshing it now. The first luxury car we ever bought was a Mercedes, and we have owned several now. But the one we have in the driveway is likely to be our last. We now have two BMW's, and, again, sorry, but BMW just makes a better car and their lead on EV is substantial. Our next car will be an EV and it will be a BMW.

      @@KungPowEnterFist Stop smoking weed. It’s just very sad to see how biased you’re being, the first half of what you wrote wasn’t even relevant to anything that I had mentioned, talking about how BMW has been in the EV market far longer than Mercedes… like please tell me what your point is exactly because their cars are still far more hideous than any other car manufacturer producing EV’s in 2022. Yet you claim they’ve been making EV’s far longer so shouldn’t the outcome be the opposite or should it not?? It’s not just me that agrees that there design language has been off, the majority of people and enthusiasts would say the exact same thing & will agree with me way more than they would agree with you. You’re then claiming Mercedes is losing it’s “mojo” with no reasoning to back it up at all. Mercedes right now is probably at there highest and best, more so than they’ve ever been before. They’re continuing to expand on all their lineups (and will soon probably take VW & Toyota over in terms of revenue making it the most valuable car company in the world.) You also claim BMW’s cars are just plain better when Mercedes is the one dominanting the luxury market. Their exterior designs, quality of materials, ride quality/suspensions, road/cabin noise, infotainment systems, engines, as well as their AMG engines… ALL beat out bmw by a large margain, and please I don’t need to mention interior designs or compare interiors when Bmw has literally had such similar interior concepts for 2 generations now and it’s just getting old. Mercedes interiors 85% of there lineups kill that of bmw or audi in every way possible. Even there infotainment systems have come such a long way and MBUX now dominates both idrive and audi connect which had not been the case for years. Unlike you kid, I’m not biased so just search it up on youtube or google if you don’t believe or agree with anything that I’m saying. And since you love mentioning irrelevant sh*t here are a few more facts id like to educate you with. Mercedes has been the best F1 team in the world for nearly a decade now. AMG stomps on bmws m cars. the 5 series alone has 3 models to compete with such as the E class, GT-4door sedan, and the CLS class. Just comes to show how many more models mercedes’ has up its sleeves than BMW. Mercedes has also produced a countless amount of super/hyper cars over the years in case you didn’t know such as the the SL, SLS, SLR, AMG-GT, the Black Series, the legendary CLK, AMG ONE and now the GT63se with nearly 900hp, and SL again. May I need to continue?? Wtff has bmw made kid?? Never once have they produced a car in that realm. You talk about SUV’s when anyone would still choose a G-wagon over any BMW SUV model, and same goes for the EV models. The EQS is on a different level compared to bmws ev models. So please don’t say bmw’s cars are just better without backing your argument up or giving me any reasons. I just educated you with just a few of the reasons on why Mercedes-Benz is clearly superior to bmw kid.

      @@legendkiller1290 I'm biased? I have a Mercedes C300 in my driveway as I type this. I own both brands at this moment, and have owned an equal number from each brand over the years. I am as far away from being biased towards one or the other as you can get. But, hey, whatever sinks your submarine. Mercedes lost its mojo in the mid- to late-teens and it is now trying to get it back. Go ahead, rattle off all the EV's, PHEV's, Hybrids, they offered between 2010 and 2020. Go ahead, we will wait. Although, all I am expecting here is another nonsensical rant from a Mercedes fanboy. BMW has offered multiple EV's and PHEV's throughout recent years, so good luck making what I am sure will be a thoroughly witless argument. BMW has sold out all their EV's for 2022, and its not looking too good for buying a BMW PHEV in 2022. Our local dealer stopped taking deposits because those are nearly sold out as well for the 2022 model year. You can take your money over to Mercedes and buy a nice ICE car today, though, because they have plenty on the lot. Those were the actual words the BMW salesman told us, LOL. To be fair, our local BMW and Mercedes dealers are owned by the same company and are situated right next to each other. We did walk over and checked out a few models. Nice cars, for sure...5-7 years ago. I really hope Elon does not buy Mercedes. That would be the end of the brand. All jokes aside, I honestly do hope Mercedes can turn it around and get back in the game.
