Truly a next level experience. I’ve never been in a car so isolated from the outside environment (and I just stepped out of some new Rolls Royces!) - the smoothness, interior quality, and relaxed experience will end up improving your day. I do think the styling is a bit more controversial than it should be for an executive sedan however, some other modern BMWs are way worse in my eyes. Sorry for such a long video but as with any new top level luxury platform, it requires a lot to explain! I can’t stop thinking about this car… left one hell of an impression.
You are way to positive about the cars you review. No way this car is as good as a rolls royce in ride quality or sound isolation. Heck, even an EQS or s-class will probably be better. BMW are always behind Mercedes for comfort.
Thanks for the great review. I heard their biggest market for these cars is the Chinese, and so it doesn't really matter if we think they are good looking, but it's about what sells best in China.
This is a compromised ICE platform based. It's therefore very heavy, less efficient, smaller interior compared to Pure EV platform car of this size. It's drag coefficient is much worse than EQS Model S and Nio ET7. It's transmission tunnel running at the back has nothing inside, a reminder of compromise.
I got to say Kyle, I love how innovative you are! Doing a deep dive on the various aspects of your sponsor is brilliant. Normally I just zoom past the ads, but this kept me paying attention. Well done. BTW, As a 750Li owner I am very excited about this car.
Love Kyle's enthusiasm, also only very few journalists / Tester are on this level. Good that BMW is up there, I always liked the brand and owned many of them. The test and feedback criteria are changing - which is good - like we had tests prior to EV only tests. Is it a good car? How do you feel driving it? How is the quality, touch, feel, smell? Handling? Back roads? Family? Design? I miss that on EV tests, it was until now only about charging time(s), OTA, software, range and acceleration straight line. Anything else was not important anymore. We lost a lot with the sheer focus on EV features only. Very happy to see that coming back, EV´s are normal cars now and they are here to stay. Range is not an issue anymore if you have 300+ miles for many consumers.
Thanks - and totally agree. EV criteria need to be on top of the standard review criteria. For the last years it’s just been EV topics that set cars apart - now that everything is getting good it’s time to integrate all of it together.
We'll actually I think you may be missing the point a lil bit the specs matter a whole lot as this is more digital then analog. Basically the specs change very often and sometimes by a huge margin. Maybe the next Gen of this will have 500 miles and change in 10 minutes and that's gonna be something to write about. In my opinion that's actually more important as I believe cars are almost all comfortable now and they typically ride well
PHENOMENAL review. Most in depth review of this car I’ve seen so far, and I check out most of the well known auto reviewers. Well done Kyle. Loved it. This is the closest I’ll get to driving one 😆
I just learned from Doug’s “quirks & features” that those ultrasonic parking sensors on the side of the i7 are there so when using the automatic door opening feature, the door only opens and stop before hitting something on the side of the car. It uses those sensors to calculate the distance from the side of the car to an object. Pretty cool
I think I have opened the "frunk" on my Tesla twice since I got it a year ago. And I get stressed when I'm reminded because I did put something really heavy in there when I first got the car, been adding unnecessary weight. I should probably take that out.
No other auto journalists can talk through the whole hour video and still keep me interested like you. You should be a chief engineer or consultant for them
After 80+ minutes I must say that if I had 150k$/£/€ to spend into an electric sedan Kyle has convinced me that the i7 is the way to go. 😁 Regarding the autonomous driving system, I thought that the i7 should have a comparable level3 system like the S-class, but maybe this is an Europe only option.🤷♂️
Just to bear in mind this is a compromised ICE platform based. It's therefore very heavy, less efficient, smaller interior compared to Pure EV platform car of this size. It's drag coefficient is much worse than EQS Model S and Nio ET7. It's transmission tunnel running at the back has nothing inside, a reminder of compromise.
It’s the hairstyle that gets my attention! I’m brand new to this channel is in 45 seconds in! Hahaha This guy gives me 80’s engineering major style vibes!

I"m so glad you said what you said about your model plaid and that for the same money how much car you get with BMW. The only thing holding these cars back is a reliable charging network. If Tesla opens up, sales go through the roof for the competitors
You are so right there is definitely active noise canceling going on in that car. Drove it for a week. Unfortunately we got a little bit nauseous from that and our ears were popping a lot. But still absolutely love that car. The most comfortable car I've ever had.
I own a 2021 X5 45e and I gotta say for every car I’ve ever been in or owned that had air suspension, it’s AMAZINGLY quiet like you don’t ever hear the compressor it’s pretty impressive. I need to drive this new car, I don’t mind the design at all. Still looks like bmw to me and I’ve owned many. I was eyeing the 7 series 2023 my dealership has on the floor when there for recent service, so thanks for the in depth review!
I like the Model Y front trunk where I put the charge cable and adapters, first aid kit, 12AWG extension, cleaning sprays and towels for on the road and there's still room for a backpack and rain gear. That's stuff I don't need to get at very often. Everything else (including dogs) goes in the back.
I'd much prefer my Y to have a larger trunk. It'd be possible if they moved the cabin forward and sacrifice the frunk, but then this won't share platform with model 3.
I don’t see it mentioned here, so I will say this with an admission that I have not watched the whole video: the direct competition to this car is NOT the Model S, but rather the Lucid Air. I’m curious if you will be making a comparison with those models and any other Alpha sedans including the Cadillac and the Mercedes EQS?
You had a white piece of lint in your hair exciting my OCD and flipped it out with your mind-blown gesture over the BMW's refined hwy self-driving capabilities. lol I'm glad I found your channel recently. Your passion for cars and driving is palpable.
At 52:40 you say this is a different driver assist than iX. Does that mean if I buy a 2023 330i (combustion engine) and get the driver assistance professional package, will it be similar to this i7 or is it car dependent? is it now called "Driving Assistance Professional Package" that you can include in combustion cars and will be similar to this i7 driver assistance?
I love it! Impressive for a functional transportation vehicle. Cars are really designed to take you from A to B, so to get ANY of these fancy features is AMAZING. Great job! 💯❤️💯❤️
I know I would love if this car was in our budget, I'm very happy with our i4, but all the features I wish I had are in this car. As always I love Kyle's attention to detail about the features of the car. I know you mentioned some of the lurch in B mode and I feel with time you learn a really soft touch so driving is not so jolting. I exclusively drive in B mode in the i4 and find I get less jarring breaks and accelerations, other than when I go into sport mode and just have fun.
No digital rearview mirror camera , how do you see out the back when the Massive entertainment screen is down . There has to be a Camera because that is definitely a 'BIG ' safety issue 🤔
They should have made the car longer and put the executive seating on both rear seats. losing the front passenger seat to use the rear executive lounge seating is unacceptable. I wanted this car until I saw that. Appreciate your detailed review.
Thanks Kyle. A very fair and honest review. It sounds as though the car really redeems itself with the driving experience and comfort. And I guess that it will be possible to extract more from it when BMW remap the firmware, after owners have greased their palms with enough Silver. 😉👍
It’s funny, all of the electric cars I actually like seem to be the ones adapted from ICE platforms. That being said, I have an i4 on order and calling that an ICE platform is incorrect; the platform was designed to support both ICE and BEV
If you did the brake test in D mode would it still stop just as fast? I know it should automatically regen brake and then transition to friction brake, but can it do it during a full out braking situation just as well as if it was in B mode?
You should be able to option out the silly plastic lightbar across the dash. Takes away from the classy feel of the cabin IMO and doesn't belong in a 7 series.
I drove an EQS and was somewhat underwhelmed by the acoustic comfort given the hype. From your review it seems like the i7 is much better in this regard?
We just had to tow our 7 series 750LI away as parts to Copart it had 163K we sold it for $1800. Never in my life has I witnessed a depreciate 99% value while still feeding over 35K in repairs. In 2010 the car was over 100K. We replaced it with a 2022 Tesla Model Y Performance for 65K with enhanced AP and 20K of Supercharging for free. Before one plunks down 150K on this 7 series or any other BEV think about renting it on Turo and try to road charge. Non-Tesla chargers are troublesome and free EA isn't worth much. For example, we have over 130 Tesla Superchargers in our small town and there are 25 chargers that work as well as a Mcdonald's ice cream machine. My guess is when you go for your road trip in a 150k car you don't want to brick it. I saw lots of luxury in the car but given BMW's reliability, I see lots of crap that will go wrong the moment the warranty ends.
57:30 It can be confusing, if you're not using both systems every day: 210 km/h is about 131 mph. As a guide, 200 km/h is 125 mph, and for every additional 10 km/h add about 6 mph. Also, 40 is 25 mph, 50 is about 31, and 400 is about 250 mph. Simple mental arithmetic.
The g90 genesis doors are much quicker… interesting. I love my bmws loveeee them that g90 tho girrrlllll im curious! Kyle have you driven the g90? Can you do a comparison?
I have to say the Lucid is its main competitor. I'd say the Model S, Taycan and Etron GT are grouped together. Don't forget that Teslas are perforanced based.
No brush. Ac induction motors work by magnetically “inducing “ energy into the copper rotor windings wirelessly from the stator. Nicola Tesla helped invent this tech 150 years ago
looks like a great car. At what point will Tesla be forced to adopt some of these niceties like hands free monitoring and the lot. This is a much more luxurious experience in most aspects. And the price is basically same as a model S.
If someone is in the market for an S or an X, I think there are much better alternatives. The 3 and the Y on the other hand I personally think are still market leading after spending the last 9 months test driving almost all of the competition in the $50-70k range. But totally agree, someone shopping for an S would be hard pressed to not go with this or a Lucid or the EQS.
@@ciybersal9833 iX is also based on a ICE platform and therefore it is really efficient and got great interior space, as you can see in Kyles video about the iX M60. Same with i4, so BMW just understood how to build cars that are electric powered and gas powered on the same platform.
This dude pulled off a proper 70s look. Like bro looks like he has a proper full time desk job at IBM. Just needs a button down with a pocket protector and some pens. Just a friendly roast. Keep doing what your doing bro i love your reviews. As for the i7 my wife isn't into cars at all but this thing rolled up in a Ross parking lot and she did a double take and said that's nice... What is it? I said I'd the new top of the line BMW electric car. I don't think it's classically beautiful but what it has is presence. I'd compare this to a rolls than an s class. It just looks big, expensive and comfortable... Which is exactly what it is. Id take one of i has the means
BMW probably thought all i7 owners will charge at home on L2, and very few i7 owners will road trip long distances. They will obviously be flying first class or private charter. Also how does the seat massager compare to the gold standard…..S class Mercedes?
I used to be a fan of BMW but there's something about their design philosophy that's gone off track, IMO. It seems disjointed or overengineered or something. Those weird circular door openers on the outside and the 3 separate ones in the interior are perfect examples. It doesn't seem like an elegant, user-friendly solution. Waiting for those auto doors to open would be a deal breaker even if the interface was designed elegantly.
Overwrought is the word you’re looking for. The basic design philosophy I think is good. The detailing is disjointed and unharmonious and lets it down.
@@ciybersal9833 I keep asking & never get an answer, WHAT EXACTLY ARE THE BENEFITS OF DEDICATED BEV? Frunk? I'll take waitlisted 5 door hatch. BMW BEV. BEV take up EXACTLY same size, space, EPA size classifications & parking as ANY ICE, they just need to park longer while they charge. What BMW call Power of Choice means they have been using flexible platforms & assembly lines for ICE, Diesel & PHEV FOR YEARS, now they expand to BEV & hydrogen. ICE manufacturers have been fitting ALL SIZES of engines to their vehicles since LAST CENTURY, SO WHY DOES IT MATTER? As others have pointed out, unused transmission tunnel still an engineering & safety feature as it increases structural rigidity, also probably adding to BEV i7 silence, composure & ride quality, even on fwd. MINI. BEV kidneys now house hardware for automated parking, cruise control & autonomous drive. i3 was unicorn dedicated CFRP BEV & BMW were criticised for it, despite selling 200+k units, bringing new buyers to the brand &, along with over a half million PHEV sold, increasing BMW's EV market share>ICE. From what I've witnessed sole benefit of dedicated BEV is it allows single occupant to park in daily drive gridlocked commute with the rest of us in 5,000 lb. Model S, so much for Green!
Those are sensor hardware or the system wouldn't work. Slow doors remind me of power windows on my '74 E9, German power windows were slow then, too (though a prankster did trap his friend's head in domestic power window once as a gag). BMW have been expanding for 60 years & doubled volume this century on new X crossovers in segments they didn't even compete in last century, this century they have more trolls than buyers. Not a problem, BMW sell fraction of majors', as i7 reminds they prosper on margins, not volume or trolls.
Look at all those reflections/rainbows of the crystal controls at around 45:20. Unnecessary bling crap. Also get rid of touch controls and gloss plastic. It really cheapens the interior. I like the wool seats!
I suspect your claim about the i7 having LiDAR is factually incorrect. BMW's internal documentation mention that LiDAR will be available beginning 11.2023, and the technical literature does not as yet contain any instructions for removal or calibration of the LiDAR sensor. Instead, it simply says "TBC". Please confirm your source for the comment that the i7 uses LiDAR. Based on the parts database IX and I7 share all the same distance and cruise control hardware with no mention of LiDAR.
15:45 - The moment of real disappointment. A smaller trunk than the hybrid, and no space under the hood. Also, I notice that it's very inefficient; only an estimated 300 miles from 101kWh of available battery, with almost no buffer. That's about 3 miles per kWh. A car costing one fifth of the price can do that with 50kWh of available battery. The car would be at least 300kg (660 pounds) lighter, and more efficient, if it were designed as an EV from the ground up. Compare it with a direct competitor, the Tesla Model Y SR, for example.
I will take the lower sensors any day of the week as they are there for redundancy to ensure the 4-doors do not hit children, bikers, and cars coming into the path of the vehicle.

I record audiobooks for a living and bought an i7 as a rolling sound booth. Works like a charm!

No brush. Ac induction motors work by magnetically “inducing “ energy into the copper rotor windings wirelessly from the stator. Nicola Tesla helped invent this tech 150 years ago
@@ericcindycrowder7482 you are right. Typo. I meant brushed AC motors, like the iX?
I7 or lucid or model X?
Luv this vehicle. People who hate EV won’t recognize it as EV and bully you on the roads.
Also like the vin is under the hood and not in the window.
EXCELLENT!
looks like a great car. At what point will Tesla be forced to adopt some of these niceties like hands free monitoring and the lot. This is a much more luxurious experience in most aspects. And the price is basically same as a model S.
Tesla really is t concentrating on the S or X. 3 of their factories don’t even build them.
@@ciybersal9833 iX is also based on a ICE platform and therefore it is really efficient and got great interior space, as you can see in Kyles video about the iX M60. Same with i4, so BMW just understood how to build cars that are electric powered and gas powered on the same platform.
@@binflydushy
IX is not a ice based platform. Search on the internet, it's a pure EV platform
I’m very curious about the thoughts of this type of luxury versus Lucid’s take.
Is it difficult to get a haircut in the US?
Asking for a friend,, 🍻😅👍
Back window is cover still
I'm ordering one now.
hands-off option feature using HDLM! starts at 48:01
Would this be the same exact battery back as the iX?
Not the same pack, it’s slightly smaller. But it uses same cells.
No, the battery is flatter and longer
Why is there a drive shaft hump in the back of an EV?
I WANT ONE 😍
wow kyle has multiple cars.
What I see them is nice to look at, fine for a couple of days and lingering annoyances in the long run
Overwrought is the word you’re looking for. The basic design philosophy I think is good. The detailing is disjointed and unharmonious and lets it down.

I actually prefer when automakers offer an existing platform with an EV option. Just like choosing a 4 cylinder or V6, add an EV option
Look at all those reflections/rainbows of the crystal controls at around 45:20. Unnecessary bling crap. Also get rid of touch controls and gloss plastic. It really cheapens the interior. I like the wool seats!
STAND STILL! DAMNIT!
I wonder how their software updates??
It does update! It’s an EV
Why is there a transmission tunnel? 😕
Combustion platform
Compromised platform thereby making it heaviest in class and most lazy to sixty. Drag coefficient is much worse than EQS or Nio ET7
@@Knnnkncht bullshit!!!! They can do it without that! They actually used that space for all the crazy electronics

Stop taking nonsense and read about Pure EV platforms Vs ICE car compromised platforms.
