Caruso's "vesti la giubba" (1907) was the first gramophone record to sell a million copies, one of them was bought by my grandfather, who also owned Gigli's "la donna e mobile" and several of Elgar's works. When my grandfather died the records went to my mother , and as a child I listened to them often.
