The german producer of many groups including Boney M and Milli Vanilli just died yesterday at the age of 82 (in the US where he had moved to).
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Farian
Seine Musik bleibt! Das tröstet.
Ich habe erst vor wenigen Tagen eine Doku über Frank Farian gesehen. Er war ein musikalisches Genie.
RIP Frank
"Da Da Da" was a triumph of minimalism - and very successful. The song was a chart success in more than 30 countries. For example:
No1: Austria, Switzerland, New Zealand, South Africa
No 2: Denmark, Ireland, Israel, Norway, Sweden, UK, West Germany
No 3: Canada, France
The song even reached No. 33 in the dance charts in the USA.
It also remains infamous here as it was (idk if it still is) used over there as an advertisement jingle, if not one of the most recognisable jingles. Everyone and their 2 year old knows this song now.
1981-1, 1982-2 and 1984-1 are pure "Schlager"---the kind of music that had been "grown-up" music for decades at this point. The late 70s and early to mid-80s were the time when that shifted, Schlager moved more towards "old people's music", and everyone and their dog tried to fill that gap. In the end, American music won the battle for the mainstream market and it would take a full generation for German music to compete there again. On the other hand, German music did establish a foothold in the youth market that had formerly been fully in the hands of American music.
3:53 Alphaville is fire! Big in japan, Forever young, Sounds like a melody, Dance with me, so many hits from them!
4:23 The Big Boss is actually the other one, his name is Dieter Bohlen, he is the songwriter, composer and the boss of both.
"The style changes in not 10 years" yeah, you got it. It was the decade when music videos were invented. Starting with Peter Gabriels Sledgehammer. This of course and the growing number of live performances changed the "background"
A great decade to be a teenager. Still know the lyrics of (nearly) all of them.
That's what I love about the music of the 80s. Especially in Germany with the "Neue Deutsche Welle". There were so many different styles of music. No musical monotony/boredom.
Dont forget Neue Deutsche Härte
One of the most successful German producers happened to pass away this week. Frank Farian was a very special man, bringing success to Boney M, but sadly also to Milli Vanilli, who were caught lip syncing when a audio tape failed on stage.
Rip Frank his vocals on boney m was top
@@roycemurgatroyd7963 Agreed. Kinda love it though when the male singer of the group (often considered unfit to sing) could actually be heard.
Several of these you may have recognised because they were international hits which also charted in the UK and/or USA:
"Ein Bißchen Frieden" ("A Little Peace") - Nicole. This won the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest.
"Da Da Da" - Trio
"Der Kommisar" - Falco
"99 Luftballons" ("99 Red Balloons") - Nena
"Big In Japan" - Alphaville
"Rock Me, Amadeus" - Falco
"Live Is Life" - Opus
"Brother Louie" - Modern Talking
All four songs by Milli Vanilli
"Bring Me Edelweiss" - Edelweiss
Boney M also had several hits in the UK, but not the ones in this compilation.
There are quite some bands produced by Frank Farian. And, how I've just read today, were only fronts for Frank Farian. Boney M for example were all sung by Frank Farian. Both the 'female' and 'male' part, and the band was just casted because a british TV show wanted to host them 😂
I think he also sang Milli Vanilli, but I'm not sure about that.
About Michael Jackson, according to Frank Farian, he turned down a request to work with Jackson on Dangerous.
Ever heard of the art form Dadaism?
Der Arno begegnet mir immer noch unter diversen Videos, egal wie klein der Kanal auch sein mag.
Fast schon unheimlich^^
