I'd suggest moving your overhead camera a bit further south to get a better view of your hands during assembly.
Agreed. Or zoom out just a fraction. And manual focus can prevent a lot of that toggling between close up/far away.
Just waiting for my NVMe board and will then follow your instructions. One question, can a remote computer logged on to the Rpi with the setup you describe, create folders on the Rpi NAS, or does this have to be done locally on the Rpi?
I would love if they make an add on board with multiple NVMe slots so you could have a good chunk of storage
They would all have to share the 4 lanes of PCIe Gen 2.0. (unofficial overclcok to Gen 3.0). From what I understand each NVMe M. 2 (slower models use 2-3 lanes) can use up to 4 PCIe lanes to operate to it's full potential.
You can use a 4tb or larger NVMe ssd if you format it to GPT. That’s fairly chunky, and then you could always add 2 x 2.5” ssds over USB3. Turn your pi 5 into a mini storage beast!🎉

@@CyberDunk2077 Did that with my old Pi4 as a home NAS/Media server using two USB3 HDDs and TrueNAS. Worked fantastic, decent performance and was 100% reliable for the two years I used it. Using a dedicated HP Intel solution now and comparing the two the Pi4 setup is extremely realistic and viable. Can only imagine what a beast the Pi5/SSDs would be like that.
Used a Pi 400 running TrueNAS with SDDs over USB 3 for approx. 1 year. To be honest the replacement HP Z230 Xeon Workstation, kitted out with mirrored NAS SATA drives is not a major improvement from the typical workload of a home network perspective. The Pi 400 worked great for Win/Lin/MacOS/Android file sharing, MacOS Time Machine backups and media streaming.Those little Pis are pretty good and it was 100% reliable in all that time. :)
I love my Raspberry Pis, especially the Pi-5. Please be aware NVME drives tend to run hot. Cooling may be an issue with long running systems such as a NAS. I have no AC, so the Pis defense against overheating is particularly welcome. I have just moved from a Pi4 desktop to this Pi5. I I find the Pi works OK for RUclips video, at modest resolutions. I am new to the Pi5, but so far it has performed very well I even watched RUclips video remotely, via X2go, linux's remote desktop protocol. It will be interesting to see how the Pi5 performs accessing a Pi4. I am still coming to grips with Samba. Your video will be very helpful with any of my Pis or other Linux systems. QUESTION: Early on in the video a message passed quickly on the terminal screen (think) concerning the ability of the pi to supply sufficient power for the M2 hat and the NVM card. Before finding your video I had already read quite a bit of this topic, and there is much discussion about the pi's ability to handing the voltage and current. Honestly, I found it very complex and confusing. What is your view of the pi5's capacity in relation to managing the power demands of the M2 and NVM card ? Thank you once again. James.
I don't have an HDMI monitor at this time. Is there a way to image the NVMe SSD drive using the command line instead?
I found it easy ti install but the cable hangs slightly over the sd card slot so I had to use some plastic tweezrs to remove and install the sd card,
Hey there! Are you aware of a case that would work well for a cluster (Four RPI 5) that would use both the Pimoroni NVMe Base and the Waveshare POE Hat (F) ? Unfortunately it seems like the UCTRONICS ones are meant for SATA SSD. I'm sure I could drill a few holes if needed but I like to keep things professional lol

I’d like to ask if you could make a tutorial of a file sharing server that we can access not from the local network but also everywhere around the world with internet connection with the ability to share folders or files with other people. Actually I’m looking for something which will work just like the dropbox. I don’t know which one is the best way to do it. Nextcloud is the only one I heard which is open source and free. Would you be able to do it?

Do you think a SSD NVMe of 4tb will work with pi ? If yes do you have some brands exemples ?
Its best to contact the NVMe Hat Manufacturer for the boards they support (and have tested). 4Tb drives are not cheap if you get it wrong!
Pimoroni have a list that they have tested on their site
I got a 4tb crucial p3 plus working after formatting the drive to use GPT partition system. The default way raspberry pi os is set up means it will only see 2tb otherwise. Running Gen 3 pcie speed is stable and very fast. I got one on an Amazon deal for £165 which is expensive, but if you break it down to price per Gb then it’s not such a bad deal at all.

No, I have seen a picture of someone who has done this, but I'm dubious of the cable length (it has to be real short for such high speed transfers)
Hi Kevin, thanks for your Livestream. RPI 5 make alot of fun. First I did not get Samba for Windows 11 to work right. Had to include some more lines in /etc/samba/smb.conf, under [global]:
security = user
client min protocol = SMB2
client max protocol = SMB3
server min protocol = NT1
Now I can use it under Windows 11

Hi, I'm sorry to say that you fixed d NVMe Card wrong. You need de long screw from below put the nut on the upper side and then comes the drive fixed with a second nut. Otherwise there is not enough airflow beneath the drive which gets quite hot under the CPU. Greetings from :CH

LOL - How fast? As slow as that 1G Ethernet link.
It's on par with most other NAS solutions. Look at these from Toms Hardware; most are 1 GB only. NASs are not generally built for speed; they usually have large shared capacities often with very large but very slow HDD (not SSD). If you want speed, DAS or SAN with solid-state drives is the way to go. Price-wise - most NAS solutions are $200 - $300, so for the money that 1Gb is pretty decent on the Pi

Oh I'm very disappointed now. I tried to buy Pimoroni NVMe base board but it looks like Pimoroni doesn't ship to Istanbul (Turkey). I don't know why. They seem to ship almost everywhere but Turkey. I tried to ask them via support, but the only thing they can say is they're sorry. We're in 2024 come on :(
