I was just fifteen years old in April of 1971. I begged my mother because Dad was serving his second combat tour in Vietnam at the time, to drive me from our apartment in Battle Park, Fort Benning, GA to Union Station so I could witness and photograph the City of Miami depart Columbus, GA at 4 am in the morning for the last time!
An interesting fact: The City of Miami derailed in Champaign, IL in 1940-41 when it a piece of equipment set a switch under the train causing it to derail. Only the conductor was killed but he engine which was still brand new was wrecked beyond repair and had to be scrapped
Wish I found this channel sooner, this is awesome! (btw love the 3D world music lol) I hope the rumors are true that it will be a one-seat train for the "Silver Limited".
I rode Amtrak Chicago to Tampa a couple years ago, with an overnight in DC. I have no complaints, but Chicago to anywhere in Florida via DC is a roundabout way to get there. A Capitol Limited-Silver Meteor combo has more to due with equipment utilization than with any demand for that particular routing. If Amtrak had a Chicago to Tampa/Miami train via Birmingham, that route would have been my preference. Who knows, maybe something like the City of Miami will return to the Amtrak schedule.

Just got the Lionel City of Miami train set and wanted some information on the prototype. Thank you!

Hopefully the FRA recommends a Chicago to Florida route in its Long Distance Study.
Boy do I have news for you.

I noticed this video on my home page, and after watching it, i was fascinated by this. Things are most certainly not what they used to be. :
The FEC station was simply known as the Miami station (or Miami depot). Miami Central is the present-day modern Brightline station’s title
Great video. I think a map or two might have helped a little but good job.
