Here in the UK we have another variant: navigation rally. On public roads, timed at 30mph (our urban speed limit) but following a route defined by clues and plotted on the map as you progress. Lots of fun, and can be done in every thing from a full WRC-esque car to your parents’ shopping trolley!

Rally cross isn't a rally. A rally is a point to point race not a circuit.

So have people figured out how to interface their GPS into the cruise control for TSD rallies to keep their times exact?
As for the racing rallies, how many times have you had to pull over to let someone on a snowmobile headed to the bar go on by? :)

Cruise control to GPS? Well, I know people have talked about it. No idea if anyone's achieved it, but the scores the national champs are putting down are absolutely bonkers. I think 8 seconds over a whole rally?
For the races we put in a huge effort to make sure no one but rally people can be on the road. We get permits to legally close the roads for the day. We put marshals at every active trail crossing and have a radio network at every event with multiple radios on each stage to communicate immediately in case there is an emergency. Safety is the top priority to make sure everyone gets home safely.
