    Well spoken 👍 excellent job explaining this. First time planting chufa and I was about to only plant 1/4 an acre just to try it out for next season.

    Great video! We planted chufa for the first time this year should we disk some so that they can find it and if we should when should we disk it

      Turkey’s will usually find it on their own after a few frosts. But I usually disked about 3 weeks prior to opening day. Thanks for watching!

    Yep- I caught a whole flock with crack pipes walking to my plot last year.
    Left me with nothing.

      That happens a lot in my neighborhood too!

      Do either of you use a grain drill to plant?
      Seems like that would be the only way to plant and have a chance of covering them all at 1.5" deep.

    • @whitetailcartel80
      @whitetailcartel80  2 года назад

      I have an old drill and it won’t let the uneven sized chufas flow right. But a lot of people use planters with corn plates

    where do you get your treflan? I can only find liquid treflan from mexico. Which post emergent do you use? Where do you get it from? thanks

      I get the liquid terflan from a local co-op. And I used Poast as a post emergent. Unfortunately, reason 6 : hogs have really curtailed my chufa planting. The last 2 years they have devastated the chufa plots. Thanks for watching!

    Where do you source your bags of chufa tubers to plant? Loving your videos!

    Any luck with deer eating the tubers? They do here in the north

    • @whitetailcartel80
      @whitetailcartel80  2 года назад

      They do…but it’s light pressure. And in the last year we’ve had hogs come in….and they have wrecked the chufa!

    You said to plant atleast an acre so would that be a 50lb bag or more? Thanks, enjoyed the video.

      Yes, 50 per ac is perfect! Glad you enjoyed it…and thank you for watching!

    What do you use for your post spray?

    What can I spray on my chufa plots to kill grass? I know 24DB will kill weeds

      Poast was very effective for me. But the price has become outrageous!

    We always plant Iron & Clay peas with our chufas. Something for the deer and the turkeys. Adds a little extra nitrogen into the soil.

    I'd like to add if you have an over abundance of hogs and aren't doing anything to trap them, don't even bother trying to plant chufas. They will demolish a field over night.

      Unfortunately, you are prophetic! After this video was shot, hogs moved in and totally destroyed it. We had never had them before. We’ve removed 143 hogs…but I’m still scared to plant any chufa!

      @Whitetail Cartel it's a never ending battle seems like. We just removed 15 from 1 trap a few weeks ago. Seems to be the last ones we had until more move in. It's a never ending battle once they move in on you.

    • @whitetailcartel80
      @whitetailcartel80  Год назад

      Hopefully, you get a break! What trap are y’all using?

    • @Bray1Jay
      @Bray1Jay Год назад

      @Whitetail Cartel we just threw some together with some hog panels. It's like a 12 ft diameter circle pen with a drop gate. We lift the gate and stake it off between two pieces of rebar with a trip rope thay runs from the top of the gate to the back of the pen. Works like a charm. Pour the feed on top of the trigger and when the hogs root it up the gate drops. Cheap and effective.

      That sounds great! And cheap and effective is speaking my language!

      I’m afraid the local game warden would frown on it! Out of season!

    6th reason---- hogs

      Absolutely! We don’t have them, thank God... but I have a friend that does and there were holes you could park a Volkswagen in!
