    I recommend 45-60 days before average first frost date. In South Georgia that’s around Sept 15th for me. That being said don’t let the date indicate when you should spread, only spread when the conditions allow. Wait until you have a good rain coming spread right before it starts around that 45/60 day I mentioned above and you will be good to go. If you have a way to crimp then go broadcast your seed and crimp over it.

    Wildlife / Deer Biologist here, been studying deer my entire life. Studies show that minerals don’t have much of an impact, I tend to disagree. As you have said the years you had it out all year the bigger the bucks you had and I agree it’s the same with me in South Georgia. Deer are concentrate selectors they only eat what they know they need. Them hitting mineral sites throughout the year is indicative of the fact they are lacking a mineral and therefore the mineral is filling the deficiency.

    My pop told my brother and me when he was a young man, money was tight, so one shot, one kill. This was in the 40's. He had a stevens 12 gauge single. When my brother turned 12, he got a stevens 410, that was in the 60's and for Christmas in 1970 I got a stevens m311, I was 16. I gave my son my shotgun for his birthday when he was 12, his stepdad may have sold some years later. I've got my pop's 12 gauge. Glad they got mini shells 't now, cause my old shoulder can't take that recoil..

      Prod's not really the right word, as it takes no more than a touch when you get it right. Hard to remember the sequence of all of these vids, but f'Gawd's sake, as well as yor own, if you still got that big Boar livin with the other load, in the old pre-fab home/Trailer, or whatever that is or was, back at the Farm, don't let em near each other. Their combined weight 'll flatten the lot to the ground, & I doubt there's been much need for a sturdy Fence behind it? One other thing, use those littl'un's playin, (after they've settled down, for background to your talks. If you're lucky there & got a team Member to do it, you may get some of the best Comedy snippets since the 20's silent movies. Ther'e one I've seen fo a whole soinder playin "Catch" when there's quite a pile up at speed, & one get knocked unconscious for just long enuff for folks to get worried, before he starts to get up looking silly, then runs straight into a wall & falls down again, sits like a dog or cat, you cn see his brain figuring out where he is, & (which ways up) all the other have l3ft him to it, & you can imagine then all saying It werentt my fault, before he finally runs across to them, & tthe fame continues with him among them. They 're not big enuf tto hurt each other at that age/size, but it's exactly what happens in thousands of y "Pre-School Nurseries every day with our own kids..

    You 'll never get a processor until you can guaramtee a regular number coming in. Roght now, they've no idea if any Trapper'll call up & say he's got TWO, or Teo Hundred, Having enough Holding Pens for em is the only way you can level out the nu,mbers you've got for sale. Bit that takes some organising, as you'll need to sort your catch out, according to size, when you get 'em. You'll have to castrate all the Males you can still handle, & slaughter all the Males from about 70 lbs & up as soon as you can, for Pet-food, (or even Fertilser). Once you've got the set-up, it won't take much labour looking after'e,m as yhery most;y look after tthemselves if they've got Feed, water,. & EITHER shade from the sun or a myd-wallow.

    Gate flap seems way too short & too hard for them to find. Would be interesting to have tail can video to see if that is actually an issue, the first 10 capture mobs filmed would give an educated indication. Less samples = less robust conclusion, and habitat/mob history/season etc variables all probably influence it. Working out some way to have the gate flap internal mating point quiet is also possibly an improvement. Closing onto something like rubber or wood might reduce or eliminate the noise which probably spooks some. And while getting the sow is good, 2 suckers were missed. Smaller lower mesh needed. Or higher trap to prevent jumping out if ambushing them on the outside which is ok for 2 if any good, but not for many more as some will be missed. Unless disturbed those suckers will probably stay nearby & possibly called up for posing with an apple in the mouth. Once disturbed by sub 100% efforts they are likely to gap it. The sow configuration doesn't need Russian/wild boar breeding, domestic pigs usually revert to that after some generations in the wild.

    Now you're getting the idea! Judging by some of the Dang-fool questions I get on Quora from PHD's any ole' boar is a damned sight smarter then any of 'em You know how they panic when they first find they're trapped? Then, what they do next, is start FIGURING a way out. See how some attack the place they got in, Others just take a quick look & ignore that part altogether, & go look elsewhere instead.' Some ole' gals get annoyed with younger ones tearing about, interfering, just when they think they're making progress, rhen set about them instead of carrying on. Lucky for Trappers, it takes' em a long time to recall what they was up to. ' Anything that rattles or jingles becomes a point of interest, & they'll keep on worrying it till it gives way. Not with half a ton of flying Pork, but with a lot more patience than any ten-0 y.o kid & a lot of adults ever have before losing interest.

    I did wonder if they actually look for bits they can fiddle with. We once has some Gate-Latches, supposed to be Pig-proof & we had one sow could open them faster than I could with one hand. She has to push one part, twist another at the same time, AND pull the Gate towards her, all at once.! That was more than could ever be done by accident, & it took some figuring to manage it. We put her in next pen, & wired her gate shut, but somehow, she managed to teach all others to open their Gates too. Maybe coincidence, & they'd watched how she did it, & just experimented till they found how to do it?

  • @harrylinfield5113
    @harrylinfield5113 2 месяца назад

    My comment was meant to refer to the dawg! There's never been one yet what can resuade the Hogs to FOLLOW 'em! Natural enemies! Hogs ALWAYS turn to face any Dog,/ Coyote, Wolf or a Poodle!There's just NO WAY you can train the Hogs not to do that, so you train the Dog to sit stay out the way & watch! Anyway, you keep on raising them littluns! If you got a half-rotting bale of hay or straw, drop it in the yard, & give'em summat to play with. If they get bored (jest like kids) they'll start fighting & WILL kill weaker ones. You got a few there really need to be took away form the "Growers" already. Keep 'em coming. BTW? Dunno how much Land you have, or if there's any scruffy woodland attached? You could carve into say Half-acre Paddocks so you can split the bigger ones away from the tiddlers. Shade's more important than mud-wallows. (Get your cutting knife out, & do the Males afore they get too big to handle. All your Pork will be sweet & clean, & you'll get a brand Name in no time, iof ONLY you can get a steady stream passing thru'.

    Since hearing of the Hog problem, & watching various Trapping systems, I 'e been wondering why so many are wasted. Any littluns (from about 25 lbs up) are tough enough to survive without their Mothers, & could be raised in batches in paddocks by any Small farmer with enough Land. Preferably with a few trees for shade. Fencing would be the most expensive part of the operation. The Boars could be "cut" on arrival & once De-Wormed, (best to have an isolated Paddock , kept purpose for that) . there 'slittle to do but watch & em grow & keep the Feeders topped up. Being able to keep the Processor informed of how many you'll have ready for slaughter in advance would enable prices to be a lot more even than they are now. Anyone rearing pigs knows that the expensive part in keeping to pregnant & suckling Sows before their litters at ready to be weaned. As your Feral Pigs appear to be a lot smaller than domesticated ones, they probably make the best Pork anywhere. The preferred weight to prime Porkers used to be about 140 lbs alive, giving a 100 lb Carcass which is the best size for all their different Joints.

      I've been watching how you've been learning by your mistakes, possibly from the start of your "Brigging" days. There's still a way to go to "Undo" the Trap, & that "Hybrid" Gate is surely the way to go. The original, laying om the ground, was surely a disaster waiting to happen?) Can it be modified so the whole Netting "Gate" complete with frame, can be un-bolted, from a Frame which is part of the Trap? (AFTER the Trailer is in position) & the Gate raised up just high enough to let the biggest Hog go under it, direct into the Trailer. (Love your built-in Ramp) Dunno how heavy it would be, but maybe some winch contraption on the Trailer like they used to use to raise the Portcullis gates in Mediaeval Castles? You ain't gonne get any younger!) So you'd reverse the Trailer into place, attach the Winch, un-bolt the Frame c/w the Netting, & wind in up out of the way. Or praps a secondary Wire Gate, opening in towards the Trap, & held by a stop at 90 degrees, (close-able by pulling a rope in case of a hog-jam). That would shield whoever is unbolting the Main-Gate, & only opened when everything else is set. It would also acta as a guide when you walk them aroundin one direction.

    If you put some corn at the end of the trailer it would help to calm down the captives and keep them from running back out😮

    You guys need a center gate in that trailer so you can close the gate when a bunch run in, trap them in the front part of the trailer so they cant run off again.

    Everyone who hunts deer and turkeys should be trapping coons and possums in between Georgia’s deer and turkey seasons. Trapping with dog proof traps is very effective and easy.

    I agree. Predators of poults eat the cicadas too. Domestic dogs eat a lot of them.
