I have seen a marked increase in the number of turkeys here in SE Louisiana since we moved our season back to start on the first weekend of April. I don’t think reducing the bag limit from 3 to 2 has done much. I think most people kill zero or one anyway. I think the season dates have been the biggest factor. I am just glad to hear someone else with a positive outlook other than me. Thanks for putting this out there.

And thanks for commenting. We love to know how the turkeys are doing…especially in the Southeast. How long has the late start been in effect?

@@whitetailcartel80 That started in 2018. And starting in 2019, I began seeing a lot more jakes. 2020 was even better. I temporarily lost a place in 2021 that was a real gauge by which I judge things. I got it back in 2022. Tons of jakes. And in 2023, we had tons of jakes. I can’t say that was the cause, but there is certainly a correlation. Also, I am seeing a lot of turkeys in a bunch of different places. Around here, that last week of March is a real good time to hammer them most years, after that, it doesn’t really get right until around April 15th.

Another thing that I think has helped is my increase in missing turkeys!! I told someone awhile back that I have done more for turkey production the last few years than the biologists and the NWTF combined. I think I got that worked out now, though. 😂

Lol, I feel your pain…I went to a red dot. I could see the sights…or the bird…but not at the same time. Glad to hear you are seeing progress. I’ve been battling hog’s and haven’t gotten on the coons like I was planning…but I’m fixing to get on them. Tired of seeing a hens with no poults or just a couple!

@@whitetailcartel80 I had a few red dot issues. But I got them straight now. Basically, I was focusing on the pattern at 40 and saying, “Good enough.” But my shots were much closer, not “Good enough…”
