Awesome to go to your website and see you are still killing it a decade later
That is pretty much ALL I build these days. Nothing but Chevy Strokers. Mine sound MUCH like yours do. I'm impressed!! And my brother, you are SO right....garbage in, garbage out. If you want an engine that is abuse worthy, high reving, and bullet proof....you have to get the best of parts. 1). FORGED rotating assembly fully balanced internally. 2). Blue Printed Block. 3). Camshaft that has been sized mathematically to the post machining architecture. 4).Proper fuel induction system.
All those parts/assemblies cost more than the components of most "Crate " engines. The 383 Stroker I built for my '68 Impala SS has over 80,000 miles on it, and over 100 passes at 1/4 mile tracks. The initial cost to build it 10 yrs. ago was just over $7,500.00, although i already had the 4 bolt main, '69 350 block out of a commercial tow truck. It STILL Chassis Dyno's at 427 Hp@ rear tires. Initial Engine Dyno numbers were: 512 Hp. 486 lb-ft. on pump gas. Red line 7,000 rpm.. So you can keep those not-so-hot $4,500 "Crate" Engines.
You get what you pay for, and if a guy invests on the high end at the build, then you are going to have a LONG life engine that almost begs for abuse. The higher priced higher quality parts will end up MORE than paying for themselves. In both pleasure....AND lack of headaches !!
Unless your pumping out big power you don't need an internally balanced motor.
You can save quite a bit of money by just going with a scat 9000 series crank! If you're not making 800+ hp there's no need for a forged crank! Rods and pistons yes, crank no. I've honestly only have seen one stock Chevy crank break in my lifetime, and that one broke the snout off of it from a roots blower! We used to take Chevy 350's straight out of the bone yards when you could pick them up for 100 bucks all day long, we'd slap on some heads, cam and intake, the only thing we'd ever do to the bottom end would be put in some good rod bolts. Then we'd spray the crap outta them with nitrous, beat so many cars we had no business even racing! And we went through quite a few of them but never broke a crank ever!! We wouldn't even pull the pistons and add ring gap.
The answer to your question Sir is very simple, quality before quantity. Stay safe and thank you for sharing your videos
Got 1 of these Nov 2020. Runs great but there were 5 oil leaks. The breathers bottomed out and it couldn't breathe. Blew gaskets out including front crank and rear main. They sent me a complete gasket kit but wouldn't cover any labor. I will have 20+ hrs in working on it. They should stand behind it better than that.
ouch -
Sorry to hear that but appreciate the info.
I like these builders , but now i don't know that i would invest 🤔
And that’s why they cost more then blueprint.
I’m surprised they don’t respond to your comment.
Nothing is worse than unhappy customer. They should respond and solve your problem. I hope some one in that company let the upper management to see that . I was going to order an engine from them for 65 Elcamino but your comments was bad enough to change my minds . Good luck hope they resolve the problem. Please lets stay away from this type of businesses . Lets support our classic loving people. Our money is hard to come buy so let’s not wast it here.
Thanks so much I was about to order a stroker for my '73 Camaro I'm restoring that I've had since I was 20 years old and I'm 45 now (better late than never ha!) but I already have an oil leaker with my '82 shovelhead so I will just go with a local builder here in Portland.
I got also a 383 stroker on my 91 silverado, and it's manual transmission, i replaced the timing set, with gear to gear drive, and now it sounds supercharge, but it's not, parts and all was about $8400 on parts only, well worth the build and money.
539hp
596trq
My guess would be quality of parts and workmanship on the machining and assembly
Cam sounds fantastic!
I have a 383 in my truck putting out 530hp. Great engines, never had an issue with mine. Very reliable.
What's the compression on that 530hp motor you got?
their engine always idle smooth and rev smooth and come back idle smooth, im big fan since 9 years ago. i hope some day i have moneys .
Win Win I have the money and money for a car that deserve a engine like these but I don't have driving license 🌚💔
Sweet sounding motor you guys rock
I am buying this engine as I write this to put in my 57 Chevy! Can't wait!!!
Lucky
Good shit dawg
@@charlesmartin7347 Got the engine, man is it a beast. Dyno'd 460/499.9. Had it over 5 years on about 15,000 miles. Just needed oil. Strong as hell. So happy. :D
@@superkas See above. :D
UPDATE: Still have this engine...still runs like a beast! Have just added high octane, good racing oil and she has been a monster. Could NOT be happier. I am planning on getting another of Doug's engines for my Dad's '57 Chevy and one for a '55 Chevy as soon as I find one I like! :D
When im ready for a awesome engine you are the guy's I will call
I bought this one for my 57. Holy crap does it rock. So strong and starts like a champ. So happy I bought this engine. Cant give enough kudos.
Please people it's not hooked up to a transmission so of course its going to rev quick.
Best comment possible. 👌
So true! Currently I have a really low compression 350 with dish pistons in my chevelle at the moment and it sounds a lot like this one in response to throttle when it just has a flex plate, but it doesn’t stop spinning that fast though.
Let’s see your video with it hooked up to a transmission
I live for brutal camshaft sounds
She said: Huchabuh, huchabuh, huchabuh. I don't think it was anything too wicked. Did sound healthy though. :)
I would love to purchase one of these motors.
Very nice throttle response on the stroker 383
Yeah, they get that way when they don't have anything attached to them.
@@user-ge2qn6gp4o exactly
Dammmm I seriously want one of these 💪💪💪
You and me both
Bro that is an awesome sounding engine their Boss
Dammit man that is sweet and wow it revs quick as hell would love to have one of these sweet babies
You should do a couple vids without mufflers 💨🔥
Those Super 10's are basically no muffler. I have two of them on my 80 Camaro. Supercharged 355.
@@leebob86 I have them on my 57. Neighbors hate em but I love em. :D
Your quality of work is worth the extra money
Im saving to purchase one of these engines.
Wow, good sound, good balance. Nice.
very nicely tuned!!!
Hey I’m planning on building a 383 out of my 350 sbc and I’m wondering what company makes good cranks shafts rods and pistons
Summit racing
WoW! I really like that motor 😉 I have a CHEVY G20 van. That I love to drive daily. And mostly like driving on the highway. could this be the engine for that? I'm not really concerned about how many miles per gallon. I'm interested in getting a nice smooth running engine.
So here the good news. A more efficient engine (like one of these 383s) is better on fuel.... I'm about to pull 2 engines from a boat (currently a coupel of 350s barely making 200hp). Strip them down and build them up as 383s, but I'll be dropping Vortec heads on them. They won't be 450hp, more like 350, but that means an even smoother idle, and a much flatter, fatter torque curve, just what's needed in a boat...
That comment down there is funny, it revs fast because there's no load , buy one put a load on it ,then put another comment here, I bought a 383 from them an with a load on mine ,it don't drag down hardly at all,I just wish I would have bought that 572
Larry Linneman Buddy negative comments in here but this man know what he is doing I live in Arizona how much would this setup cost me ?
How much was it
This guy is awesome
new Yooork
I've got one of these in my 71' Pontiac LeMans sport. Funny thing is it's a convertible, I'm saying goodbye to my eardrums
No law against proper mufflers.
hydraulic roller cam. Thats why their engines are more expensive. you CANNOT get the same amount of horsepower out of a flat tappet cam because the cam lobes can't be that aggressive.
I'd love to have them build a stroker 460 BBF for my street truck. a 521 with 575-600 HP would be AWESOME!!!
They can be just as aggressive, just a roller cam will produce a few more horsepower due to less drag and friction from the valvetrain.
Please keep doing this it's the best part of the video. You build beautiful looking and sounding motors great job just keep up the outdoor sound or listen to the exhaust from the Dyno like you use to
Beauty !!!! The way that thing revs so quickly and freely is amazing. (Ultralight flywheel ?) Nice work !
It wont rev like that with a load.
It will rev like that with nothing attached to it.
Once the trans is bolted it wont rev as quick. I've built close to stick 350s that rev just like this when I start it on a stand. Bolt that to a dyno and let's see the numbers it pulls. Anyone cant throw a HP number out there...
What flywheel? You mean flexplate?
I had Noble machine in Oklahoma build mine 575 hp it's a great engine it will light up the tires when I want to it's in a 55 chevy
Man this is exactly what I want to build,I am going to have my son help and learn, still a few years before he drives, but never too early to learn.
Shoot me a message on price, and also build spec's,and I would greatly appreciate it.
And I'll go ahead and respond to the obvious ford guys, saying they all rev that fast with no load,by simply putting it this way.
It's when they rev that fast with a load that you get the full appreciation of a stroker, try it sometime.
Like there aren't any such thing as for strokers...
Sounds good that’s what I’m saving for
Love this motor ❤
Amazing sound and look 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
How much for that turn key 383
The Turkey or the motor?
Beautiful. Top skill Sir.....
That would look good in the s-10 build I'm doing with my son!
they are perfect, and i believe they bolt right in
Ta perron primo. I'm going to ask my bank for Mula f*** yeah.
man thats what i need in my burban
I had same thought. That is what I need in my burban.
I just built one to go in my burban
They all rev like that without a load on them.
That's what I was thinking haha
Any engine with just a flex plate will rev like that. Not impressed.
Yes they do!!! The guy talks to us like we're ediots!!! I think everyone knows cheap parts will give you a shitty build!!! When he asked that question, I thought he was gonna give us some tips on the build itselfe not the parts!!! Guy's arrogant, not impressed at all!!! 👎👎👎👎👎
@@Starkster50, well then all you little boys are just plain and simple dumbfucks. You should be proud of yourselves!!!!
So go watch the dyno videos, Mr. Quality Engine Builder. You couldn't tune a Matchbox car.
Very Nice Demo!!! Excellent Engine!!
cheap parts, bulk buying that usually drops prices too.shes got a nice crackle to it.looks like March pulleys and other quality goodys that all work in unison. quality and truly valuable professional experience in assembly and engineering it properly before a nut or bolt gets touched . what's the difference between a cook and a chef?a cook knows how, but a chef knows why! thanks ☆☆☆
Nice work.
Holy moly! I think that you need a little more oil pressure! Whew...
Haha! Revving the piss out of it.
It's a sbc
Hi first thanks for sharing I appreciate it. Im curious why do have on the fly wheel. Thank you
This cat was a used car salesman in his previous life lmao
Put a flywheel on it. Any motor will have a fast throttle response when it isn't turning anything!
I bet you guys could do wonders with my '70 Warranty Replacement 2-bolt 1511 block, huh?
What cam did you Use
Awesome work . What mufflers are those you are using ?
What can I say, that's the way it is supposed to be!!!!😁😁😎
I do have a question for you? on your engine is there any reasons that you kept on the flywheel looks a little dangerous
Saving money to get one of those in my 92 chevy s10
A carefully built, "blueprinted" engine will ALWAYS out-perform one that`s just slapped together....I actually witnessed a mass-production type "engine builder" shop in NJ where they were using a hand-held belt sander (I shit you not !) to surface the heads and deck the block. THAT`S what you get with some "budget builds".... :-)
How and were can I get one these bad boys I have 90 GMC 5 speed I would like one these put into my truck
I need one for my 73 c10 stepwise how much
Very nice presentation on comparsion
Quality is everything.
What’s your price on one of them 383 Strokers?
I got a mud truck project that needs a motor and trans.
I’ll email you
Love it man that has to be 1 bad engine awesome!!
What’s the difference between your 383 stroker engines and summit blueprint engine
they charge a premium cause they're stupid
Names
How much money for a 450 horse 383
Great Video...i can't wait to get back to hot roding
That's sounds like Music beast i think my headers are to small what size is recommended it has 3inch colecters but the intake has inch in a half
ill take that one
Will whomever designs those nice chrome power steering pumps redesign the low-pressure inlet so that it goes the right way and not the wrong way. Seems like they always need to be cut and shouldn't they bend in the direction of the steering box?
Quick reving engines thats impressive turning that huge airless rotating asembly 450 hp to the flies or any insect that land on the flex plate.
Is that English? SMH.
Beautiful
That sounds Sweet 👍
How much turn key for my squarebody?
I have one of these in a 1993 Camaro
I would like to know the price so I can get on to go in my 79 camaro
Can you tell me what compression you're using and what's the lift and duration and separation of the cam
Best ways to get higher compression ratio is to get the highest quality pistons you can , plan the heads , find the lowest CC chambers heads , and use a single steel shim head gasket , you will make horse power , don't forget cam , carb and headers
Approximately what is cost of the one in your video
Sounds All there 👍🏁
Very nice!
What’s the cheapest way to get to 500-550 hp, I have a 1969 Skylark with a 1985 350 engine with 4 speed transmission. It has some modifications to it, bigger cam, flow master exhaust, Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock carburetor etc
Can this engine fit in a 1998 chevy cheyenne??? My engine broke down and want to buy a better one. And is it worth buying?
Lol
Do I get a cardboard catch can if I buy one. Nice Throttle response. Lopping cam would sound a lot better if the idle was set at 600 RPMs.
just about any motor will have that kind of throttle response when it's only spinning a flex plate.
Awesome
That sounds insane
what name and part number of the stroker kit please?
I'll take two
Is that a Mallory unilite distributor
What about 308 Holden stroker 383. 450hp
How do I get in touch with your company ? I’m interested in a 382 stroker
What mufflers are you running behind that?! Thanks
Imo..magnaflow race series mufflers or magnapacks would sound way better than these tin canisters.
Sounds tuff
It sounds strong... Are you in the south
Imagine that going on my IROC Z.
I have an 87 iroc.. been working on throwing one in
I have one in my 91. Not an iroc, they didnt make irocs in 91, but still a 3rd gen
Great
How much??
Gotta be from Brooklyn....
Sounds good..but it revs so fast cuz there's no load on it/ converter 4 the flex plate or clutch on da fly wheel..I still like seeing you Rev the cat teeth out of it...lol
Shane Cochrane it revs so fast because it was engineered to be a bad ass motor
Yep. I was thinking the same thing. Still a great well tuned engine though. I wonder how many customers can keep them in that way.
it revs so fast cuz its a 400sbc crank in a 350sbc that = a 383sbc
Furn333 yes but the torque is what causes the angular acceleration aka the change in revs. more torque means the motor revs quicker. but also dies out faster
@@cloroxbleach118 My dude...maybe in a high school physics textbook that would be the right answer but rev rate on a motor is controlled by far more than the torque figure. By your logic diesel engines should go from idle to redline and back again almost immediately because they've got astronomical torque figures. Couldn't be further from the truth. The engine in this video revs quickly because it's spinning a flex plate and nothing else.
Very Good!..
Out of curiosity, how could you get it to rev higher? I would absolutely love one day to either get a nascar motor or build one as similar as possible mainly for the sound and also get usability of them.
BRAV0 TWO ZER0 if you want sound check out the ls7 with 8 to 1 collector. Just type in 8 to 1 collector exhaust should be in the top 3 videos
Shorten the stroke. Like a Chevy 302 (only made 3yrs) or a small journal 327. The longer the stroke vs bore size.. the faster the piston speed.
@@wydopnthrtl Also your camshaft selection will play a roll. You would want to run valvetrain that could handle it. Also you could run lighter pistons and a fluid dampner would help.
Nascar motors are destroyed or shirt stroked motors. You can make motors rev in the 8 and 9 grand range safely doing this.
Awesome freakin awesome
