"Fancy Footwork": How to Defeat Gortash No Traps (Even AFTER the Coronation) - BALDUR'S GATE 3

- In this video I'm showing you how to defeat Gortash in Wyrm's Rock without activating any traps, as requested by the Fancy Footwork achievement.
There are a few videos out there showing how to do this before the coronation, but not after.

Glad this exists. Most videos on this achievement focus on pre-coronation Gortash, so I appreciate the hell out of this
insanely helpful guide. As other's have mentioned, all of the most popular guides involve some cheese strat before you've annoyed him by destroying the steel watch. With your help, I managed to get the achievement first try.
Just save before doing the cheese strat, get the trophy and load back to playing it your way.
@@suryavegeta12 I had 2 characters in act 3. One i stopped playing because i wasn't enjoying it. The plan was to play normally with the 2nd character and keep the 1st character around for cheese. After i cleared the foundry i double checked the guides i had earmarked and saw that there was a strat for if you did things normally.
Thank you so much! All I did was disarm the traps outside, send Astarion in to throw a spell or two to get the action started and get out quickly before any of those bulbs were thrown and then fought it all outside. Worked great. Thank you!

Tried my best
I did this Achievement by Accident because my Party was all on the top of the Tower in his room with the Bell. my Party just made a Flamewall and everyone dies from Fire and Gortasch will climb the big Ladder and you can fight him alone in the Tower w/o triggering the Traps

Great video. FYI for those reading, in Honor Mode you can't shoot those traps / buff launchers with arrows as they are resistant/sturdy. You have to hit them with bludgeoning or throw things at them.
I'm doing the honour mode right now. I might update it as I face him again
Eldritch Blast with Agonizing Blast also works wonders on them (though you still might have to take two shots at one or two of them)

just did this and it worked flawlessly, had to use Eldritch Blast to take out the traps though instead of a bow. thank you!!

Only thing I did different was mstep/fly across from south span, saved a bit of time, other than that 11/10

Worked like a charm, thank you! The only fiddly part was that I had to shoot Gortash three times to finally get him and his soldiers to chase me outside, they just did not want to leave.

This worked really well for me, only one try in tactition, I had to kill the three roaming steel watchers outside, and the one that came with gortash.
What carried the most was a Open hand monk, and a ranger with constant use of arrow of many targets. Thanks!

I don't remember how, but by some miracle I got this achievement on my first playthrough before even knew that this achievement existed. I remember it involved ganging up on him with my heavy hitters in the throne room before he transformed.

Got it by sneaking up to the top floor, killing the steel watchers and smashing everything inside the room. When I came back after the steel watch factory, I fought him with all the traps smashed to bits.
This worked first try in tactition, I had to kill the steel watchers aswell. Open hand monk and a ranger constant use of target of many arrows. Thanks!
This is completely bugged for me, beat him now 3x in a row not triggering anything but the things in his room that give him his shield. Ive destroyed the steal watch. I did sneak his rooom earlier with astarion for loot but didn't trigger traps. At this point the only thing getting triggered is me wondering why the achievement isn't popping.

Anyone struggling with the traps, note they're classed as "sturdy" & immune to piercing damage, I found it more reliable to have Gale cast the acid splash cantrip on them
You can just jump/fly down tho the passage from rivington without a lot of the fighting.
Do the traps on the first floor where the coronation takes place count or only the ones inside Gortash room?

Just did this fight yesterday. Wish I would have seen this first.
By the point i had to get his netherstone i was on his bad side cos i destroyed the steelwatch and the iron throne, and so everyone at wyrm's rock was hostile, n being a retribution durge i didnt wanna kill anyone i didnt need to and just greater invisibility'd my party and accidentally got this achievement cos we didnt trigger any traps otw to Gortash 😂
In this video I destroyed the foundry and did the Iron Throne too before facing him. I wouldn't feel that bad about killing banites if you're on a good run, but I was concerned about the flaming fists. It is implied in some writings you found that the remaning guards are bad apples and the good ones left, so...

It's weird that I never even got out of stealth, was never caught by any of them, no traps triggered. Gortash died and his underlings aren't even mad at me because they didn't even see me but still I did not get the achievement? makes no sense.
I got this achievement totally by accident, on my very first play through. I used the runepowder bomb on him and it blew up the traps
Got sharp shooter and it doesn't shot the traps

I dunno what I'm doing wrong, I tried this achievement exartly how it was shown in this video, and it didn't work :/ Been having this issue all day, tried it several times doing several different methods
are you setting off the traps on the floor below; where all the adds are? Cause that stops you from getting the achievement also.
120+ hours in, and only now am I realising that you can move boxes to use as aid to jump up higher...

Does it still count if I triggered the traps at an earlier point in the playthrough, but in a different encounter having nothing to do with gortash?
It might, I'm not sure. It's difficult to replicate at the moment, given the time element between the two events in the same playthrough.
nope it doesnt, it happend to me :C you cant activate any trap at any moment (Any Gortash traps).
Arrow does not do any dmg on traps on the wall.
Inspect with T, they are vulnerable to lightning damage, shoot with lightning arrows ;)
Bow didn’t work but I had call lightning that worked

No special arrows.
The character is a commando build, rogue(assassin)/ranger(gloom stalker) with the sharpshooter feat.
If you have any problems bypassing the sturdy feat, try with eldritch blasts or acid splashes.
I wondered if it was that bow! Thanks for all the info OP appreciate it. My main is a warlock so I'll def plan on using EB if the bow gives me issues.

It's weired that you destroy the traps, the explode and no one of the oponenents reacts.
You can also just fast travel while using him as an improvised melee weapon and then just yeet him off the bridge to lower city.

doesnt work post coronation/destruction of iron throne, which what the video is about. the area is hostile so you cannot fast travel. also gortash is hostile as well.
Ungroup party. Open door to start fight. Go back outside and regroup with party.
Then easily kill everybody who comes through the door, including Gortash.
I don't know what I am doing wrong. I tried this fight 4 times and I never get hit by a trap. I am able to pick up the Grenades before they explode. This is frustrating me.
I think the problem you’re having is the fact that the grenades are getting thrown. That counts as a trap activating
I might be stupid, or my game is broken (or if I might have triggered a trap during coronation, but that was too far in the past for me to pull up a savepoint), but I did everything exactly as shown, three times and it didn't work at anytime.
took the same steps to get there too, after the coronation, destroyed the steelwatch, etc. nothing.

Did you trigger any traps in the room below with all his minor minions? If you fought that battle before going upstairs to Gortash and triggered any of the traps, those count against the achievement.

Interesting I did this or at least am pretty sure i did it correctly and still didnt get the achievement
only differences are I bypassed the walk by using a flight potion and flying off the drawbridge to the locked door
I did go in the middle door not the side door but no traps went off so i figured I was clear, i did clear the traps but admittedly when i did so i used melee and got caught in the blasts so i wonder if thats the reason

Does it matter that I already triggered the once on the first floor fighting the goons?
Probably but not sure if the game considers the floor Gortash is in.

Odd, my traps have the Sturdy buff and can't be taken out with the arrows, did they patch this? Hopefully disarming them doesn't void it, it's my only option.
Edit: disarming seems to trigger them. I'm gonna have to use lightning spells it seems.
Sturdy as "you have to deal more than 10 damage"? I've the Sharpshooter feat in that character, so I'm certainly doing more than that. I'm interested in knowing if Larian changed something, I'm playing Rogue Trader atm but I want to come back to BG3 and do something different.
I ended up having to use my lightning spells because nothing else worked. Even Jaheira with the same bow as you were using couldnt dent the traps.

@@AvrengostGames i triggered trap on the roof, (before fight with Gortash) :(
The stun traps on the outside shouldn't count towards the achivement, if nothing changed recently. I suggest disarming them anyway, just to be on the safe side and not having to deal with them during the fight. They can explode with AoEs during the combat, it happened to me when I was doing some tries. Safety first 😅
How do u get him to go upstairs?
He goes there after the coronation

why'd you take the long way to get there? You could have just jumped from the bridge instead of going all the way to the leveler.
edit: either from inside the keep or on the other side.
How is your ranged attack strong enough to destroy the traps? It does nothing for me 🥹😭
On that character I have a legendary bow, the Sharpshooter feat and some items that increase damage. You can try with a 3d10 damage cantrip from Gale or Wyll (his Eldritch Blast), also examine the traps and have a look at what kind of damage they are vulnerable to.
