Especially with the JLA trailer hitting the internet. Aquaman's Trident, Alec Steele's take! I mean, Man At Arms did it, but I bet Alec's would look better. >.> Just sayin'.
I saw an episode of "Forged in Fire" where they made rain drop Damascus. Since you live in England, where the whole year is the rainy season, I figured it'd be very fitting.
Anyone else wondering what some person might think when they enter the workshop? Alec in the middle of the workshop under his studio lighting, screaming: "Spacesuit on !!!" then turning in circles for 2 minutes in order to get a timelapse intro.
This is brilliant! I've often wondered how putters are made using the forging, milling, and sanding process. This is very informative and gives me a sense of how long it takes to make a hand made putter. Thank you.
A 30cm paperclip wouldnt be impressive though, not like one that is an inch long or even actual size. And if he does an 2 centremeter one then he could turn around and raffle it off as a neck pendant.
Idea for a project. It might not be the British thing to do, but making a damascus steel billet suitable for turning into a 1911 slide would be outstanding. Said billet could be sent off to one of the custom pistol makers in the US to be machined into a slide. Depending on British law, it could be sent back for the etch. Think about a 1911 pistol with a damascus slide.
To own a pistol he'll have to have a firearms licence which are quite awkward to get so id assume its a bit more hassle than its worth. Cool idea though id love to see it
Craig Joksch making the slide and sending it over to the US would be possible but its not as easy to own a pistol here in the UK as it is in the US so sending it back over would be a waste of time really
Alec for clamping up odd shaped pieces in the mill get some hard casting wax, build a mold and enbed the object in the molten wax. When it hardens you can clamp it in the vice and machine right through the wax.
I love how you never take yourself too seriously, Alec. You're always willing to throw in some funny editing to make everything alright. Never change, bro.
The late, great Robin Williams had a fantastic bit extolling the virtues of the "game" of golf. You should look it up, Alec. Mark Twain said it best, "Golf is a nice, long walk spoiled by a little white ball..." Cool putter thingy though.
This video man was dope. I was 10th. But decided to watch the entire video first. Awesome work and editing I must say. Jamie the chef and video editor. Keep up guys. U inspire me every day.
I'm no blacksmith and I don't really have a huge interest in starting BUT I really enjoy your videos, your attitude and can honestly say that your videos are the best quality of anyone I watch, keep it up man!
If you don't want to buy the high concentrate or can't find it, just boil the regular vinegar for a while. If you leech it down to about 2/3 of whatever you put in it should be a decent concentration.
Great video! Don't forget to bend the "face angle" to have 3 or 4 degrees of loft. Take it to a local golf shop and they can bend the hosel for you so that it rolls the ball correctly (less skid, more roll)
Spencer Brown ... yes the face of the putter would need to be finely milled for a cleaner putting surface. The current ridges would lead to many a poor putt! Also, Alec would need to do more milling to balance the putter better. Moving the mass more to the outer perimeter will create more forgiveness in the putter and a larger "sweet spot" for striking the ball.
He would tell Alec that the face of the putter is NOT 90° off the sole, there is a slight loft. Also, he would know that the cut out portion of the back needs to be deep enough to accept the radius of the golf ball as it is typically used to pick up a ball off of the green.
I built golf clubs for a living before I went into engineering. That putter needs a lot of work to make it functional. The face should be shallower and have a couple of degrees of loft, the cavity needs to be milled out to 3mm at the centre of the sole and face to promote feel for distance, correct the C.O.G. and increase the M.O.I. promoting overspin to make the ball roll true.
Wow that thing looks unbelievable. I’m a golfer and I would easily pay top dollar for something like that especially considering all of the time and effort you took to make that by hand. In the golf world majority of putters, and just clubs for that matter, are all made out of stamped blanks which are then milled or ground into shape. This was incredibly impressive to watch.
=O just realised who you need to collab with... Clickspring! I have no idea how it would work, but you guys are my favourite RUclipsrs, so a collab between you two would be amazing!
Been watching for awhile, love your vlog, only one of a couple I actually watch, I'm a huge golfer, probably one of my favorite pieces you've made, can't wait to see so many different styles putters you could create
Alec if you made a set of Damascus golf clubs and maybe collaborate with a RUclips golfer then put the clubs on a charity auction,,, I'm betting that you would make a lot of money for a charity. Golfers love charities and they spend lots of money on golf equipment... Just sayin.. Heck put that putter on a charity auction... see how that goes.
Love the videos, should do a video on sharpening bits and tooling. Good lord is there so many videos on sharpening bits and mill ends, but I'm sure we would all love to see you do one as well. Plus it will save you a fortune in the long run.
Using the Bridgeport a lot more lately. Might want to look into a coolant pump for the Bridgeport. Save a few end mills and make them last a bit longer.
Surprise fun fact... Americans use imperial cause the British did. The British still do, but are better educated in metric then Americans. so imperial is more natural as is what his country uses. =p
It's difficult to revert to another system after getting used to another one. We canadians, use both systems because of our american neighbours, but it get confusing real fast.
Lyulf double surprise fun fact, America is actually on the metric system for science etc, but it gets converted back to imperial because the majority of Americans don't want to transfer over fully
Hey @AlecSteele, get yourself some brass vice jaws. You're a blacksmith, so if you squeeze irregular shapes into them you can just flatten it back out. Use brass, keep your feed rates low. It just might work better than the wood blocks you use for a lot.
You are one talented young man but your videos are getting goofy as hell. Lovin the fact you are doing what you love and all of that, but the silliness is gettin a bit much for me.
Kevin Woodcock personally I like it. I travel a lot and it feels like watching a short tv episode. It's engaging, interesting and the quality is really good. But I get it's a personal preference.
I agree I mentioned this a while back and I think I am ready to un-subscribe. It used to be about the work, but since he took on Jamie it's become a comedy show. I guess Jamie is calling the "shots"
Hey Alec (if you read comments on old videos) I'd love to see a new shop walk through where you go over the gear you use. Basically I just want to know about that welding hood you use but I wouldn't mind seeing what other tools/equipment you have and love.
Been watching a lot of your videos subbed and clicked the bell as well. The passion you bring to every project even now two years later is remarkable so remember these moments when you’re stuck in your office with line working blacksmiths at your shop as you expand your products you are one talented individual. Keep learning and keep enjoying and it will never be work Alec!
Alec, and idea for your bench grinder base that you said you wanted to bolt down. We have a couple of them in our shop welded to old steel truck rims on the surface of the rim that bolted to the brake drums Then we toss extra bits of chain and various nobs and remnants of steel into the well of the rim to give it some heft so it doesn't scoot around when grinding away. But, when you want to move it, you have plenty of leverage to tip it up and walk it to where you want to stow it or use it.
It might seem silly but I bet it would look super cool to use damascus to make simple stuff like leaves, hooks, and maybe a crane or something because of the way you move the steel in different directions! Great job as always!!
Hey alec, shorten your end mill in the collet. It might help with chatter. Also change the direction that you are cutting. From conventional milling to climb milling, that might help when you are getting chatter
Alec, you should really try using Rapid Tap (or whatever equivalent if thats not available in the uk for some reason..) while machining parts. It is a lubricant, and coolant, those play a HUGE part in keeping machine bits sharper, for much longer. (You'll also get cleaner cuts, so cleaner finishes on the machined part as well!)
Nice haircut. Hey Alec, have u ever thought about a Damascus trident? Would be an interesting challenge to follow
Erick OBrien I second this!!
That would be sooooooo amazing to see him make. I third this
Especially with the JLA trailer hitting the internet. Aquaman's Trident, Alec Steele's take! I mean, Man At Arms did it, but I bet Alec's would look better. >.>
Just sayin'.
Yuppp that would be amazing!!!!
+Maximilian Bondi 😂😂😂😂😂
This is brilliant! I've often wondered how putters are made using the forging, milling, and sanding process. This is very informative and gives me a sense of how long it takes to make a hand made putter. Thank you.
Forge a Damascus Paperclip.
Isaac Collard that was my first thought on what useless thing he can make next.
Isaac Collard but it has to be a foot long.
Nah, just an inch long bugger.
A 30cm paperclip wouldnt be impressive though, not like one that is an inch long or even actual size. And if he does an 2 centremeter one then he could turn around and raffle it off as a neck pendant.
Wookie_oo7 Nah, just have it be Fantastically disappointing. Like me.
So happy to see some more Damascus steel again. I just want to see more unique patterns of Damascus.
Forging question... Can you mix more than 2 types of steel to get 3 different shades in your Damascus ?
Caleb McKinney it's possible
Honestly Jamie has made such a difference, the cinematography has improved greatly. Alec... good hire/partnership like top few cinematographers on YT
Craig Joksch check out jesse James custom 1911's made of Damascus
To own a pistol he'll have to have a firearms licence which are quite awkward to get so id assume its a bit more hassle than its worth. Cool idea though id love to see it
In the States, the slide isn't considered the firearm but the frame.
Craig Joksch making the slide and sending it over to the US would be possible but its not as easy to own a pistol here in the UK as it is in the US so sending it back over would be a waste of time really
Or move his shop to France or Northern Ireland like they Brittish Olympic pistol team.
I don't like golf, but I LOVE mini-golf. I think this is my favorite piece of yours.
Alec for clamping up odd shaped pieces in the mill get some hard casting wax, build a mold and enbed the object in the molten wax. When it hardens you can clamp it in the vice and machine right through the wax.
Thanks for all the new content Alec. New shop is epic. Getting a shop built at my house this winter, can't wait.
I laughed so hard when he dropped he torch and Jamie made him much more professional sounding 😭😭😂😂
Jamie adding the extras is really making these episodes more fun to watch.
Who else loves the way he says "lunch" like he's still savoring the remains of it... So good XD
love it Alec!
+Nathaniel Faint 😂
I love how you never take yourself too seriously, Alec. You're always willing to throw in some funny editing to make everything alright.
Never change, bro.
The late, great Robin Williams had a fantastic bit extolling the virtues of the "game" of golf. You should look it up, Alec.
Mark Twain said it best, "Golf is a nice, long walk spoiled by a little white ball..."
Cool putter thingy though.
I've seen that. From his 2002 standup in....New York? Hilarious!
I really miss that guy. :(
AZ Patriot a coworker and I quote this standup regularly.
Very good work. Damascus putters always look incredible. Feel is firmer than many other offerings, but the looks are always top notch.
I LOVE THE DANISH FLAG !!! Awesome project as always !!!
You're energy is infectious!
This video man was dope. I was 10th.
But decided to watch the entire video first. Awesome work and editing I must say. Jamie the chef and video editor. Keep up guys. U inspire me every day.
+TechNo GOD Thanks bro!!
I'm no blacksmith and I don't really have a huge interest in starting BUT I really enjoy your videos, your attitude and can honestly say that your videos are the best quality of anyone I watch, keep it up man!
Damascus Steel Golf Ball next? ;)
that'd be insane, I like it
Yay for letting the breeze hit your head again!! Keep up the enthusiasm and all of the amazing work.. Hands down my favorite RUclipsr!!!!
+Bradley Fish BIG thank you Bradley!
Alec if you use a high strength vinegar bath, it removes nearly all the scale! Try it out sometime!
Tim Pryde didn't he try that with the hammers?
yea but that was normal cooking vinegar lul
Yes he did.
He did but he used cooking vinegar instead of concentrated acetic acid.
If you don't want to buy the high concentrate or can't find it, just boil the regular vinegar for a while. If you leech it down to about 2/3 of whatever you put in it should be a decent concentration.
Ok, huge props Jaime...Alec sounded, cool, calm, and collected...as professional as they come. Well done, good sir. 😀
I thought he sounds almost too serious honestly.
Jamie Popple I really believe that the three if you are an awesome team. I look forward to these videos every day
No touchmark?
exactly what I noticed immediately when watching the "reveal"
cozmolives I didn't even realize it, until you pointed it out, but now I'm a gasp.
*aghast
Great video! Don't forget to bend the "face angle" to have 3 or 4 degrees of loft. Take it to a local golf shop and they can bend the hosel for you so that it rolls the ball correctly (less skid, more roll)
I want to see this putter taken to a golf shop and reviewed by a professional.
It could be etched in the pattern of YES! or Rife putters.
He would tell Alec that the face of the putter is NOT 90° off the sole, there is a slight loft. Also, he would know that the cut out portion of the back needs to be deep enough to accept the radius of the golf ball as it is typically used to pick up a ball off of the green.

True.... but this is his first ever attempt. How many attempts did Scotty Cameron do before he was successful?
I want a damascus putter.
That putter is absolutely stunning Alec. Nice to see you got your hair cut as well.
Loving the haircut!
Tyon Moylette
A bit more off the top and it would be great
tyler saulez Nooo then he wouldn't have that awesome fluffy messy hair we all love
Great start! When are you going to cut the other half?! Lol
Hope he didn't pay for it!!!
Гаврило Принцип what is worse ?beeing born different or beeing stupid ?
I think beeing a stupid homophone is worse.
That thing makes me want to learn golf almost as much as you make me want to learn blacksmithing , Great job man!
Really liked the music on this one
Alex most putters are milled from a solid block! I would love to see bettinardi or Toulon or someone else use your billets to make putters. GORGEOUS!
Jamie, you are a brilliant f#*king master in every sense of the word, once again.
Hahaha thanks a lot buddy!
Great, no one on the tube is having more fun than you three.
You had a run in with a razor
Wow that thing looks unbelievable. I’m a golfer and I would easily pay top dollar for something like that especially considering all of the time and effort you took to make that by hand. In the golf world majority of putters, and just clubs for that matter, are all made out of stamped blanks which are then milled or ground into shape. This was incredibly impressive to watch.
First things first; Alec finally got a hair cut. Wooo!
Josh Brown wonder where he went, the butchers or the garden shop 😂😂
best piece so far in my opinion looks stunning!
When is the company putt putt championship between Alec, Sam and Jamie?
My favorite build. That putter fines beauty. Make a Damascus door stop? Like a clothing iron.
=O just realised who you need to collab with... Clickspring!
I have no idea how it would work, but you guys are my favourite RUclipsrs, so a collab between you two would be amazing!
Yes. yes. So much yes.
Yes.
Been watching for awhile, love your vlog, only one of a couple I actually watch, I'm a huge golfer, probably one of my favorite pieces you've made, can't wait to see so many different styles putters you could create
Make a Damascus Ring
I've asked for this before too I'd LOVE to see Alec make a bunch of rings as I've made a couple of rings so i'd love to see it done !
Jamie Boylan I'm pretty sure he's done it. Not a video but he does have pictures of one
fun stuff youre making. a pro tip , run the feed in the mill the other way, better surface and the tool last longer. great vid
Nice haircut.
Watching these videos and eating breakfast with a cup of tea. Ideal. Keep up the good work!
Alec if you made a set of Damascus golf clubs and maybe collaborate with a RUclips golfer then put the clubs on a charity auction,,,
I'm betting that you would make a lot of money for a charity.
Golfers love charities and they spend lots of money on golf equipment...
Just sayin..
Heck put that putter on a charity auction... see how that goes.
This might be my favorite so far!
Speaking of haircuts ... next up, Damascus scissors/shears?
been following for a year and i must say... this piece has one of the most beautiful patterns you have forged
great haircut :)
Thoroughly enjoyed the editing on this one Jamie, nice work!
Thanks a lot man!
The coolant with the chips of damascus looks like someone's Oreo got too soggy and fell in the milk.
that putter should be a trophy for a PGA tour championship. love it good job
Shud have browned the tortilla in the burger grease. Trust me im mexican lol
That turned out flippin fantastic!!
Sell These Putter Heads! I'd Buy One
The price would be way too high for me. Imagine what you could get for it if you auctioned it in Asia.
If I still played golf I'd kill for one of those. Talk about a unique club.
That thing is looking bitchin! Damascus belt buckle knife!
Love the videos, should do a video on sharpening bits and tooling. Good lord is there so many videos on sharpening bits and mill ends, but I'm sure we would all love to see you do one as well. Plus it will save you a fortune in the long run.
you got a haircut finally!!!
THAT is SICK! Absolutely beautiful.
C'mon people like this comment if you want Alec to make a Damascus Scythe!!!
Tyler Baughman that would be amazing!
Oh dang that would be sick.
That's a much different type of forging than what he's usually doing. I would love to see that.
I'm sure Alec would have a blast testing it as well.
Yeah that, and a pair of sheers.
Wasn't sure about the concept but in the end looks really cool. Nice one!!
Nice haircut..
Alec, you are an incredible smith. As a golf fanatic, I love this. I wish I could have it
Nice hair cut a little more off the top
Jerry Moates
About 2 inches should do it!
I love the close up shots. They look good
you blokes need cooking lessons.
Something oddly satisfying watching the end mill take off material... mesmerizing
Did you cut your hair with a weed wacker?
did you learn english from a guy on weed?
Tamish P wow dude
Tamish P fixed
Using the Bridgeport a lot more lately. Might want to look into a coolant pump for the Bridgeport. Save a few end mills and make them last a bit longer.
You should use only the metric system, don't use imperial just for those 3/4 countries that still use it.

Mickr4 just remember 2.54 unless your a machinist and you use 25.4
Hey @AlecSteele, get yourself some brass vice jaws. You're a blacksmith, so if you squeeze irregular shapes into them you can just flatten it back out. Use brass, keep your feed rates low. It just might work better than the wood blocks you use for a lot.

Kevin Woodcock Respectfully Disagree... A laugh is a good thing.
Kevin Woodcock personally I like it. I travel a lot and it feels like watching a short tv episode. It's engaging, interesting and the quality is really good. But I get it's a personal preference.
Kevin Woodcock gotta remember, he's only 19. I give Alec major props on what he does! If he wants to be silly and have fun, all the power to him!
"Bye, Felicia."
I agree I mentioned this a while back and I think I am ready to un-subscribe.
It used to be about the work, but since he took on Jamie it's become a comedy show. I guess Jamie is calling the "shots"

The music sync'd editing is very awesomely well done!
Editing was nicely done. Good job Jamie!!
Beautiful putter, you make Bob Barker proud.
I need a damascus ASP baton for work.
It might seem silly but I bet it would look super cool to use damascus to make simple stuff like leaves, hooks, and maybe a crane or something because of the way you move the steel in different directions! Great job as always!!
Awesome video, good to have it in just 2 parts! Really detailed video, learning lots thank you for amazing content
this putter is just insane! you should try it on the field!
Beatiful pattern, probably the most beatiful damascus pattern i have seen
You showed the finished product the next day... So you mean a great thing is happening today? Looking forward to it!
With all of the machining u do I would love to see u use an air/coolant siphon mist nozzle for the Bridgeport and lathe
You should see about getting in to media blasting as a finishing technique, would probably save you a lot of time
Good looking chap today. Good looking putter. And Jamie, great editing!! 😄😄😄
Make the whole set !!!!! Great work. !!!!!
How do you keep up the enthusiasm? Love seeing you try new things!
Most fun I've had on one of your projects.
Thanks for another amazing video Alec! Keep on doing what you do! There should be a video to decide who the better Chef is, Jaime or Sam.
Looks amazing! Wish I were able to make one to put in my bag
Love the hilarious editing. Good job Jamie.
That's one FINE lookin putter, Alec. Seems like it needs a Damascus golf ball to go with it
