    Phenomenal cinematography and editing in this one! Making damascus steel has been boring to watch for quite awhile, but this one is like a movie. I really appreciate that the songs used in this one sound like they came from the new Dune and the level of detail in editing to the chosen soundtrack. Kudos, Jamie!

    A little tip for getting the alignment correct on your twisting jig would be to do the welding on the morse taper end in situ. Put the square tube in the chuck, put the taper in the stock, nudge the taper onto the end of the tube and then weld, remove tube from chuck and cut to length = perfect alignment and less distortion when twisting the hot stock

    Ok ok ok ok ok .....I am a machinist and at 7:32 when you discovered how to control the twist rate using air I lost my mind in the best way possible! Alec this is good stuff! I love the creative use of a lathe as I also primarily run lathes. Oh and I live in Montana just for some added giggle factor.

    • @Yossus
      @Yossus Год назад

      Can you offer an explanation of how it works? My intuition would be that the air would cool the piece down, and so it would twist less where blown, not more. Obviously it’s the opposite. But why?

    • @DUKE_of_RAMBLE
      @DUKE_of_RAMBLE 3 месяца назад

      I had to scroll to find a comment talking about this! I'm not a machinist, but also found this to be *_brilliant_* on his part!! I love me some outside the box thinking! 😘👌
      @@Yossus From what I observed it was NOT twisting more, at least not from him cooling it. If it appeared that way, my guess is that the CORE was still significantly hotter than the rest of the stock, whereas the other areas perhaps were cooler all-through. As such, the cooler-outside-hotter-inside area _(where he was cooling)_ still could move more easily and twist.
      At least that's what my deductive reasoning is telling me. Whether that's correct or not... I dunno! 🤷‍♂️😅

    • @cesartorres5239
      @cesartorres5239 20 дней назад

      @Yossus it wasn't twisting more. It may have appeared that way since it was already twisted further along than the other side. But if you look closely, you'll see that the air cooled section started to slow down the twist rate while the hotter section was catching up to the air cooled section. Eventually creating a uniform twist from end to end.

      That's definitely been a thing for awhile. Or for _at least_ 5 years, since that's the minimum for when I would've seen someone do it in "Forged in Fire". 😅
