- This is a lesson I prepared for my students at the Fashion Institute of Technology. It's for their couture construction class. The technique is hand sewing, a method of joining two pieces of fabric together. It was popular in the early 20th Century.

oh, thank you!
I’m so happy I found this channel! 👏👏👏
I didn’t even know how these stitches are called, and I love this look so much, I can’t imagine certain pieces of clothing without it… I even tried to re-invent this technique by myself out of despair, but it didn’t go too well :)
thank you again :)

Hi Kenneth. I have been watching your video's for several years and thoroughly enjoyed the embroidery, ie: hand stitch work amongst all your other video's which are all excellent. Warm and best regards.

Exactly what I was looking for to stitch together various sizes of vintage linens for curtains. What is the brand/size/type of the long, sharp needle you are using?
@@MaryDeanDotCom The needles are called "milliners" or "straws" needles. You can get them from John James or Milward. They are longer than regular hand sewing needles.
