Thank you for your valuable guidance on poster presentation preparation. I secured 3rd place out of 800 participants in a national level conference in India ( Tamilnadu)
This really came in handy for me, I'm having a poster presentation next week at Denver. Important points: 1. Do NOT read your poster 2.Prepare a presentation ~2-3min, and expect questions such as "what do you expect from your research" 3.Handouts are good, you don't have to squeeze everything into the poster, you can have supplemental materials. 4.You can always get back to your viewers. 5. Just admit it if you cannot the question, DO NOT make things up instead. 6. Put the viewers priority.
Can you tell me about you? I mean from your published comment passed already 8 years and everything in your life have changed. I assume that you did finish both bachelor and master degrees, therefore you are working man right now?! Sorry if all of it seems to personal, however I can see the huge difference in your life due to 8 years, by the way, how did you defend a poster presentation that was held past week at Denver? Please, can you reply smth?
Ahhh mine is tomorrow and I have another in a weak! Can you contact me on Instagram @theycallmeij so I can ask you some questions on how it went. I would really appreciate it and hopefully you see this in time!
Very supportive video! I'm actually going to present my poster tomorrow. And I still watch this video over and over again just trying to get more details.
1. Don't read your poster! 2. Use your poster as a tool. 3. Expect Questions. 4. Used poster as a visual tool. 5. Presenter engaged with viewer. 6. You don’t have to put everything on your poster. 7. Don't know something? Just admit it. 8. Viewers first! 1. Don't read your poster! 2. Be prepared. 3. Handouts are good. Create a 2-slide handout. 4. Make viewer responsible for follow up. 5. Admit when you don't know. 6. Put your viewers first.
1) do not read your poster 2) be prepared ; expect competition 3) Used poster as a visual tool - Hands-out are good 4) Engage and make eye contact 5) you don’t have to put everything in your poster 6) Unfortunately this goes beyond the scope of my research ( say I don’t know ) ( don’t make things up ) 7) Viewers first, introduce yourself
TY, I haven't presented a poster presentation, since undergraduate. This is very helpful & great showing an actual real world presentation with don'ts & do's Thanks again Namaste Peace Shalom
Question: when someone approaches you, do you introduce yourself and invite them to ask the questions about the poster if they have any, or do you introduce yourself and start talking about your work?
There's no single answer here, other than assess the situation and respond accordingly. Some people will ask for what they'd like "Please tell me about your work." That's pretty obvious. Some will start looking at your poster quietly with the intent of maybe asking you questions later. You might say "Hi, just let me know if you have any questions." People that approach you rather than approaching your poster - you can tell by what they're looking at - are probably going to say Hello or something like that. You can take that opportunity to introduce yourself and let them know you're available for questions; or you can say "Would you like me to walk you through the work?" I think you get the idea - read the audience, do your best.
I'm wondering.. How would you judge a poster with just one author like that(even in the case the quality of the research and of the poster in itself is high..) and not even a mentor listed (maybe), just an author?!
For a science fair you should probably consult the fair's specific specifications for size/parameters. As for a program I like to use powerpoint because it is very simple and there are many templates for it. Though - you can go into any program you chose and create it digitally with the exact measurements taken from your physical board. (But, I would call ahead and secure that someone can print onto an actual poster board - most collegiate level posters like this one are flat, not board. You may want to follow a different tutorial specifically using board. Also, googleing 'research poster libguides' can take you to some other types of guides/tutorials written by librarians.)

Poster making for good paper name?
8:56 Mans got a sixth sense. What a god
Thank you very much for making this. Great video.
Quite helpful, but a bit odd how the presenter is alternating his pronuncation of Poisson between how it's pronounced and "poison".
Can someone please tell me how to buy or print a poster like the one shown in the video? Where can I print it?
your school/university should have resources for that
Farhana Akhter You can print your digital poster at your university or at a FedEx Kinkos/Staples.
If I was to do this for a science fair, with a trifold board, what program should I use (like Publisher?) and what parameters.
For a science fair you should probably consult the fair's specific specifications for size/parameters. As for a program I like to use powerpoint because it is very simple and there are many templates for it. Though - you can go into any program you chose and create it digitally with the exact measurements taken from your physical board. Can you place a QR code of your email id or LinkedIn instead of giving them a card?
Sure. However, LinkedIn URLs can be cumbersome to copy. You want to avoid placing barriers to people getting in touch. - george
