Great video! Outstanding Mill!! I've been a Chevy guy most of my life, but i can't even GUESS the times I wish I had a distributor in the front! Ford vs. Chevy, Democrats vs, Republicans, SAE vs. metric.. Why the hell do we do this to ourselves? It's ALL good! 😆
Nice job! 289s are awesome. Many records set and firsts done with the SBF 289. Some gearheads don't have a clue how badass the 289 can be. Just read about all the accomplishments in racing and that was with the old technology back in the day. I'm a Ford man and historian on the subject so I'm know what I'm talking about. Also know several others that have and run engines like this with over 500HP. Not talking down on other manufacturers but give credit where credit is due. Shelby American completely dominated in the USA in A and B production class (Cobras and Mustang) and went on to destroy Ferraris reputation in Europe with the Cobra Daytona Coupes. All 289s. This was before the successful Ford GT40 program.
I know that Shelby raced the 289 cobras at a 8,000 RPM red line reliably....I wonder how high this stroker engine could reliably rev to.... Thanks for sharing this awesome video- great job on this build!!!
You are correct, the 8 stack looks badass on any engine. I just purchased a Corvette with a 383 stroker with a Jim Inglese 48 IDF 8 stack and they get a lot of attention at car cruises. The problem I am having is they are running really rich. I got a hold of Jim and told him what jets were in it and he said they are the correct jets and told me what timing to set it up at. The car sat for the past 4 years and I'm thinking the carbs need cleaned which I am in the process of doing. I wish someone would do a video of how to setup and the proper way to balance the 8 stack system. Would love to find someone in the Pittsburgh PA area that works on this type of system.
There's a video of a British guy tuning them. There's a special vacuum gauge you use to balance between the carbs. It isn't complicated, just time-consuming since you have to go back and forth several times adjusting the screws.
@@johnterpack3940 I believe the tool you are talking about is a SYNCHROMETER. I bought one and it was very helpful. I also did a rebuild on the carbs and they were very dirty. I also went to smaller jets which helped. It now runs a lot better.
Thank you!!! I was just as disappointed. Stroker Windsors are a dime a dozen these days and the 289 has been all but forgotten. By the way, NOTHING sounds like a true 289 with it’s super short 2.87” stroke including this 3.25” stroke common engine.
Attepted to run this setup on my M-code Cleveland stroker. Could never dial in an harmoniously streetable disposition, encompassing reliable starting, tractable low speed idle and optimal W.O.T. After countless hrs. on the dyno. and enumerable jet and choke configurations, just gave up and opted for I.R. (stack) injection. All performance issues were instantly resolved.
Color me sceptical on a 336ci street engine that exceeds 500hp? That is over 1.5 hp per cube in a 91 octane smaaall block, even in a very light car. I ain't saying it is not possible, it would take dyno runs to convert me and neither the owner or you give a rats ass what I think. Rock on.
agree, he just pull's numbers out of the air, calculated hp is just guessing. also that engine IS NOT finely tuned. cylinders 2,3,4,6,7 & 8 are lean as indicated by how blue the headers are
I would have really seen this built with a sidedraft manifold...it would have been so cool, you don't see one of them often... thanks for the build in any case...and the first cylinder is running too rich
I am a old Ford guy. Still got my first car a 62 Fairlane got in 1968 raced in 80/90s still have today. That is a sweet build.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos Ken. I am a Mack truck technician in Worcester MA and I really appreciate what you do and your knowledge. Thanks!
I'm not a Ford Guy but that is the best sounding engine I have heard in a long time.
The throttle response is unbelievable.. thank you for sharing.
Always loved the look of individual stacks.
No.filter Extreme wear
Thank You Ken , much love , protection and victory in your path . Valve adjust video awesome
Super cool. Love the Webber carbs , beautiful induction sounds .
Awesome sound! Great job.👍
Wow!!! What a motor!!!! Thank you for sharing.

Amen, Brother. You just explained why I went with this engine un my 289 FIA/USRRC build.
@@davidklee6005 Thanks for you're kind words. You're FIA will be awesome indeed!
Sounds great Ken.
Job well done.
Have not seen any new videos lately.
Keep up the good work.
Take care, Ed.
love that motor!! sooo beautiful!! and webers!! I want to do that to the 302 in my 1990 Red F150!!
"you just dont get it" Very true words, some people just dont appreciate the craft

That’s a neat setup sweet build

I need that in my life. Got the block to build a 427W, Webers on top would be perfect.
Sounds damn good
Nice build.
Sweet little engine
Quad Webber's how good 👍
sweet Mary mother of Jesus i love v8 pushrod engines
Nice engine stand 👍
I'm impressed 👍
Why do you call this a 289 if its a 336? I thought i was looking at an actual 289 build, not just another stroker.

IR deliver the right mixture to each cylinder, a great solution if you can afford it
That thing is sweet! Did you ever get to hear it run in anger on a track, or good stretch of road.

“You don’t get It” - Classic -
What mufflers? How does it sound like that?
That is soooo cool!!
How did you set the distributor curve? How did you tune the carbs?
Ken.. how do I do that!?
You guys ever build any 5.4 2v mod motors?
Sweet! Just needs some Tri-Ys on it!
Jim who? Where can I learn more?
Wish it was going in my 64 Comet!!
I'm a oldsmobile man but that's pretty nice
Revs like a chainsaw.
I need one for my 67
So let us hear it
A humble 750 Quadrajet on an LT1 Manifold outflows most Weber carb Arrays on US engines

Sounds like the number came from a formula not a dyno.
