Four years ago you put this video out and it still helping people I just wanted to say thank you, the bearings on my brand new HPMX 44s are junk and I was getting air leakage through there. It was causing my motor to not idle down (2332) and I found out because I knew I had vacuum late and I took starting fluid and sprayed it all over and when I got to where it would cause a disruption in the idol, it was at the linkage so I pulled it apart and them bearings are junk. I hope spellcheck did not butcher this
Your videos have been fun to watch and get your results. I just purchased one of these Chinese 40 IDF clones. I will be running only a single one on my 1600 twin port. When watching your video I checked the float level. I could not believe it, it is exactly 4.25mm. So I did no adjustment and put it back together. Once I get the engine running I'll play with the jetting. It came setup with .52 Idle jets, .115 Main jets, .200 Air jets, 28mm Venturis. I'm thinking for a single carb setup, I'll need to increase the mains to .125. .55 or .60 Idle Jets and .175 Air jets, seeing as it has to fuel two cylinders per side.
Yes. I just downloaded both Weber and Empi set up directions; I hold my carb top to the side, not upside down so that the float just touches the valve tip. 10mm from float bottom to gasket. I have been told by people I trust to NOT measure float level while holding the carb plate(the plate that the float is connected to) upside down as it is not the correct way. But, the key is to experiment to see what works for your situation.
Question since you have done a lot of work on these clones. I have one carb that reads differently with the sync gauge. Is there a way to adjust that? The other carb is perfect between the barrels. If no adjustment is possible I just I’m pulling carb.and readjusting butterflies . Also you are so correct on needing to go thru these carbs and check everything. Check Jets sizes with a measuring tool, do not believe what is stamped on them. Check accelerator pump jets also. Check butterfly’s and replace throttle shaft bearings. Thanks again for all the work you have done and posting it for us. 👍👍
Thanks, Hey I could hear the differance as soon as you hit the gas. My engine was T 1 2080 cc 40 mm intake. It was a 2176 44 webers. So say I detuned it, hoping to get better 8 miles a gallon lol. It's in a 70 Bus. Thats my reason for getting these 40 clones. I had no idea what vents/jets they would show up with. To give an Idea on these chinese jets, Idels are stamed 50. one gauges as 50, one as 52.5 or a sloppy 50. The other two are over 60. I checked my weber jets same type of thing. I buy some 55 weber jets same deal none check out the same. I bought more 55's from CB. These are a hair smaller so thats a +++. Also getting 32 vents from CB. So far I am happy with the weber clones, you have to dail them in, just as you do with real webers. Right now / yesterday I'm putting a diffrent oil pump and need to install it's axles. I'm in oregon and it's snowing ashes/smoke. If the house and shop burn down maybe I can save the Bus. It does have a very comfy bed in it .
No matter what I do, I cannot get out of the 10.5-11.5 A/F zone at idle on my clones. The last and final thing I've done is lower the float down like you did here, no difference. Either idle jet dimples are machined properly or possible needle and seat weak like you shown here.
I just got a 44 from Lets Buy Throttlebody-Store on Aliexpress and it had bearings with plastic seals just like the ones you bought and they said "Japan" on them...
I bought 40's and bearings. can the bearings be removed , without removing the shaft ? What about the butterfly screws ? Do those come loose nice or are they pinned over ? are the 40 vents really 44 vents ?
If the bearings were not locktited at the factory they should just slide out using a very strong magnet.. I have a video that shows me how to remove the bearings. if you want to see that you just have to go back in time to find it but it's labeled so you should be able to find a video.
To answer your other question. you do not have to remove the throttle plate or the shaft unless they used Loctite on the bearings then you going to have to remove them be very careful when you beat the crap out of it to remove them don't damage your shaft or you're going to have to order one from the UK.
To be fair; I would never expect a cloned product that costs hundreds less to be clean, assembled, or to even trust a 'set-up' from their factory. As with my clone carbs, the first thing I do is tear them down, inspect, clean, and then set them up. I learned after my empi carb to never trust that the factory cleans the circuits out, or adjusts the float level. There is a reason they are cheaper......just like clone guitars; The factory produces them, you gotta figure out the bugs and correct them, without paying out more than an original costs. Cloned items of any scope are a risky gamble. That's my opinion.......which is nothing but hot air 😀
Hi, enjoying your videos and well happy with the info thamx, I'm currently doing a project on a 3.5V6 their 287hp and around 250ftlbs tourqe as standard and I want to run 3x48idf, but it's confusing trying to work out what jets, emulsions, venturies, air jets etc I need to get her going, what do you recommend please for this setup?. Once it's done I will get it tuned properly. Its such hard these days as my tuner has now retired, he always setup my builds for me and I've done some unusual builds over the years, always liked webers and my v6's but I'm at a bit of a loss. Many Thanx Gaf
Bought a set of Chinese IDA48s, thanks for the info! Any links to the eBay bearings? Think I want to replace them too, was concerned the sloppy nature was due to oversized casting/cavity.
I like my clones also i have 40s however i tried the cb performance 40 upgrade but the venturis where too narrow could my 40s actually be 44? I kept with the stock working fine but do you know if there is a difference in venturis?
There all junk everytime I would get them running perfect something else would need adjusted. Broke down bought a set of webers put them on haven't even a backfire yet its been 2 years.

good carbs to learn on, disassemble, change and upgrade. I bought a pair in gold tone for around $300. No linkage or anything.
Nice work . Though you can hear the low compression pistons as it does not rev as fast amd smooth like the euro spec higher comp 9.8:1 pistons .
Switched to Dellortos years ago and have never looked back.
Will there be the same adjustments on a single IDF setup the float
Would love to know this anwser?

Those carbs would go well with your 2276 motor. If you are going to change the cam also port the heads. Good vid.
Thanks I also want to get Chinese 44 idf

You can adjust the air bleed screw to adjust each hole. Next to the mixture screws with the 8mm nut locking in down
Do you have any instructions on how to prevent flooding?
How can I check the vaccum on Kadrons, is there a way you can do it? Can you do it at the balancing tube outlet?

thanks for the information all the way from 🇵🇭
You shouldn’t measure float open/close height with weight on the seat and valve.😊
Do you know where I can get the auxillary venturi for the clones. Mine melted
CP performance is your best bet
Can i better buy a weber original needle valve and float pieces and install them on my fajs clone to have better float level?
So these carburetors don't have a cold start system at all?
You measure upside down?? Shouldn't it be holding the unit side on then measure
You can do it both ways just be careful when measuring upsidedown

Hi
Why not setup float like real Weber? Should float level be like real Webber’s? That you shows in a video

It's actually from Amazon.
The link is down below the vid
Good info.
So you would say these carbs are worth the effort? Im thinking of buying some from maxpeedingrods for a triple setup on a v6.
Good info. 👍
Did you use 607 2RS or 609 2RS ball bearings?
How did you install the AFR gauge?
Cómo ajustar el acceleration pump? Puedes hacer un video para esos clono? Thanks
Damn...my chinese idf was calibrated to weber specs and it ran horrible..that's why i put the solex back on
Check your float
Is that Fajs branded?
I like my clones also i have 40s however i tried the cb performance 40 upgrade but the venturis where too narrow could my 40s actually be 44? I kept with the stock working fine but do you know if there is a difference in venturis?
where did you get your jet drills. I'm not finding any this small
They make drills so small you can barley see them. Try drilling a .025 hole in amco brass
I checked how much a big bore kit cost for your Porsche motor and they are TO MUCH. I dont know if they were Biral Cyl. The ones with chrome sleeve
I know..... it's crazy how expensive everything for the type 4 engine is!😬
There all junk everytime I would get them running perfect something else would need adjusted. Broke down bought a set of webers put them on haven't even a backfire yet its been 2 years.
