    Thank you, Dr. Omalu for your integrity on this issue. The integrity you have contradicts not only the NFL "doctors", but places you on the side of truth; against the NFL's profit motive.

      +kagomers A researcher, doctor, scientist, etc. should never, in any case, be forced to regret such an important discovery. It's a shame what happened to Dr. Omalu. It's even more of a shame that the NFL continues to downplay the seriousness of CTE to this day.

      +kagomers i don't know if he was sincerely regretful or just trying to say he was the wrong person to discover this.. i feel he is just disappointed at the fact that no one really wanted to accept that football was a dangerous sport.. it is pretty upsetting though how he felt he shouldn't of crossed paths with the player, but thanks to him at least some the families of those that suffered from their loved one with cte finally can get some answers

      I am a football player in high school. Now, it’s different then the nfl by a lot, but new safety regulations and equipment are being made to decrease risks. I don’t see any reason for it to go away completely. Every football player knows the risks of playing football. It’s the love for the game that keeps men coming back. And yes, football is dangerous. But deep down every sport is dangerous.

    What's the point of this? To better inform. So if people want to persue it as a sport and as a career can be better informed of the risks that they will take on. Rather then be lied to and believe everything will be okay when there is a good chance it won't. That's what. It's a moral thing.

      Janet G If football is such a dumb game, why do so many Americans love it? It became a billion dollar sport b/c of simple economics. Players are now aware of the potential dangers associated with the game. How many have you seen quit as a result? Your comment is a blanket statement opinion and far from a fact. You come off as a selfish fool by saying that you don't like it, it's dumb and you want to make all of the rules. How many of your passions and interests could others call dumb? Selfish much?? I don't understand why the NFL doesn't insist on better, safer helmets from manufacturers. If football being unsafe would be the end of football don't just try to down-play the risks, fix them!

    • @radupopescu5379
      @radupopescu5379 9 лет назад +6

      In order for a mere helmet to deflect the blunt force trauma that these players receive the helmets would need either crumple technology (not a good idea) or some kind of bracers connected to the ground (which would literally ruin the game) or dispersed to various shock absorbing parts of the human body (like lower back, thighs, and/or shins). That last "fix" would end up ruining the player faster since the spinal column itself is already one of the best shock absorbents in our bodies.
      Short answer: the helmets aren't the problem and probably won't be the solution.

    • @boomshizzIe
      @boomshizzIe 9 лет назад +2

      Quality Vader-Luke Time some former athlete said "just play the game without helmets" such an interesting idea, having a helmet makes you learn to use it essentially.

      Rugby has less, but no CTE problem.. They play without helmets and padding and they play a full game and not platoons. They cannot be as big because of that and cannot use their heads to ram other players because they will hurt themselves doing so. They cannot tackle hard, so they tackle smart. Get US football back to the 1930s. Soft helmets with no facemasks, no offensive and defensive teams, no shoulder pads. Ban tacking above the shoulder.

I prevented my sons from playing the game I loved because my wife and I thought it would be better for them. Now we have the evidence to prove me right. My son was angry that I prevented him from playing. A year ago he read some studies and made a point to tell me thanks for saving his brain. We should always look at the evidence. Have no fear.
