15 year review of our Jinma 284 tractor

  • A review of our primary farm tractor after 15 years of ownership. We bought it new for about 1/2 of a new Kubota with several implements. I wouldn't buy Chinese again for several reasons. But the obvious one is the low quality of the parts, faulty engineering and the necessity of working on it on a regular basis to keep it running. There are now tractors at a similar price point made either here in the US or in ally nations that are superior in performance and design.

Nice review! I'm thinking about buying one exactly like yours. Its been sitting the last 5 years untouched and uncovered. Should be interesting to try and bring it back from the dead. Good to see yours still running strong!

I have the 254 for a little over 20 years now. No front loader but everything else is pretty much identical. I’ve had all the same issues you’ve described. I’ve replaced a couple injectors and injector pump. That’s not too bad considering what I’ve put the little tractor through.I’ve drug and loaded logs that weigh more than it does. I sure haven’t been gentle with it. Too many people write these tractors off as being junk

I use a tomato paste can for my exhaust cover. It gives a bit of a friction fit.

Good review I have a farm pro 2420 and it is 25 years old and runs great I had to replace the steering box and the starter and fuel lines and something don’t work but a good tractor I now have to replace the seals or O rings in the lift .It’s a shame there are no repair manual for these things .

You happen to know what the lift capacity is of the 3 point? I’m looking to get the new seat from Vevor.

I've been having a pretty major leak beneath the seat that has been hard to track down... any guidance you can give around issues with that housing area? I'm wondering if it's the rear lift arms maybe

My Jinma is one big leak. More so as time goes on. What I do (and whether you try this depends on the nearest dealer to you) is take my tractor to the nearest Jinma dealer which is in Keno, near Klamath Falls, once a year in the late summer/ early fall. I have them go over it and fix the leaks, broken gages and switches. This year they are going to have to replace the alternator also, since it hasn't worked for 2 years now. I wasn't able to take the tractor in last year because we were working on the farm trying to get fences up and ready for our first winter. I know that's not a good solution if you're tight for money or if you don't have a dealer nearby. If you so the work yourself, what I would suggest is, take the seat off and anything else that blocks your view of the leak or holds fluids that can confuse the source. Pressure wash the whole area, let it dry, and then run it for a bit and look for the leak. If it's all clean, you should be able to spot it quickly. My fuel tank has always leaked as have my hoses to the front end loader. Now the seals are going out in the hydraulic cylinders. I just feed it's habit until I can get it back to the shop. The downside is, it's a cool $1.5-2K every time I go, plus travel expenses. The upside is, I take my wife and we make a mini-vacation out of it for the several days ol' Jinny's in the shop.

A flail mower should be run off the PTO shaft.
Terry at Yosemitetractor a jinma dealer for 23 years. Glow plugs should be put there only circuit with a 60 amp button.

How do I get my hands on one of those instrument clusters???

You have to find a dealer. Mine is Keno Tractor, 15555 Hwy 66, Keno, Oregon, 97627. Phone is: (541) 850-8193. But be prepared- they are awfully proud of they instrument clusters.

I received this tractor with no instructions. It's my second tractor, my first one was a Harry Ferguson T0-20 no loader. I really need help on how to operate the front end loader.

What help do you need? The original valve on my tractor was VERY difficult to use. It was almost impossible to move gently, especially when loaded. I noticed that Keno Tractor has an upgrade kit, although it's almost twice as much as the kit I bought. Let me know what trouble you're having and I'll do my best to help.

@longshadowfarmstead1102 my hydraulic system has stopped working. The 3 point hitch will not pick-up either. It's a Jinma 2425 farm pro. I'm very new to this piece of equipment. I checked the hydraulic fluid it was a little low, add more fluid but no change.

    • @longshadowfarmstead1102

@@Christmas9190 I had a similar problem that resulted from letting the hydraulic fluid get too low. That burned out the hydraulic pump and then nothing worked. The good news is, at least on my tractor, the pump mounts on the side of the engine and was pretty straightforward to replace. Contact a Jinma dealer to get a pump. If you need contact info for my dealer in Keno, they have a website and they are really good to work with. Their name is Keno Tractor.

Or you could store it under roof. As far as I am concerned if you do not have a building to keep your tractor inside do not buy one. Makes me want to SCREAM these words to people. Hell you can put something up using pallet wood and tin. You run yourself in the hole letting your equipment sit out, weather really takes a toll on equipment.
