"Land of the Navajo" - Peter Rowan. Filmed in Ireland "Session"
For several years between 1983 and 1987, the bluegrass/folk music trio of Peter Rowan, Mark O'Connor and Jerry Douglas performed throughout the United States and in many countries around the world. While they never recorded an album together, the trio brought many memorable performances to the stage. Often they were joined by legendary Nashville upright bass player Roy Huskey Jr. to form a quartet when the group played in their hometown of Nashville, TN, and occasionally at some larger festivals. The group was largely responsible for reinvigorating the downtown Nashville music scene and specifically breathing new life into the bluegrass club the "Station Inn" beginning in 1983 with their now infamous weekly sold-out Thursday nights appearances. While O'Connor and Douglas were responsible for ushering in the New Traditionalist and acoustic music revival in the recording studios on their instruments (the fiddle, mandolin and dobro) during the same time period, their live musical outlet forays could be seen most every Thursday night at the Station Inn with many famous friends making a night of it every week. Their audiences amounted to who's who in the entertainment industry. On any given night most anyone could be in the audience to watch them play and kick back a few beers, and most the time it amounted to several high profile audience members taking in a couple great sets of music. Their audience regularly included people such as Roy Acuff and Porter Wagoner to Bela Fleck, Sam Bush and Edgar Meyer to Vince Gill and Ricky Skaggs, to Steve Earl and Lyle Lovett to famous classical musicians and even famous actors such as Robert Duvall. Soon, about every acoustic act wanted to appear at the Station Inn.

Three of the best musicians to ever walk the face of the earth, in my opinion.
I get the chills when he yodels on this song. Magnificent voice.
You ain’t never told a lie! And I don’t even know you!
I'm Navajo, this is cool song, Aheehee for sharing video. DINE BIZAAD NIZHONI ❤🐑😃👍🏼
What does those last words mean. My brother 💕
Peter Rowan is an incredible songwriter. An art form lost on the new generation
Mark O'Connor and Jerry Douglas on backup could make even Donald Duck sound good, but when Peter takes a turn, the roof just gently rises and floats away.
Outstanding writing, playing, vocal….the “young” fellas rid’in high! Thanks to who ever posted this..”goose-bump” inducing event!
I have cried, cheered, and hallucinated to this song! Thank you Pete!
Great song, great artists, superb mullets!
Three of the greatest acoustic musicians EVER.
Damn Real
Cowboy Songs Never Die!!!! Its time to get serious and learn this one. I remember when it came out. Great video!!🎵🎶🎵
all these guys were young and u knew they would be legends
Not only a superb song, but an epic narrative poem... kinda reminiscent of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's "Evangeline". Was required reading back in 8th grade, English class in the '60s when we had to read stuff like that. Excellent performance!
Great song. I remember when my dad would get his guitar out and play this. I was always very fond of this particular song.
A vet with serious PTSD. Utah is my place of birth, and this sound my roots.Daddy played guitar while Mama harmonized and the girls danced. Baby brother played whatever he wanted.
beyond 10! Great writing singing and playing. Nice trio. and I have always loved this song since I heard Peter with Old and In the Way
Incredible music!
How does Jerry Douglas manage to be everywhere at once?
I have often wondered.
@@moragmacgregor6792 Because he is the best.
Unbelievable! I've seen all these guys before - mostly at Strawberry - such incredible talent.
Awesome Singing....Peter awesome singer!....Beautiful Song.....The Montana Skies & Dakota Prairies I'm reminded of when hearing this Song :)...Thank You for sharing it!
hauntingly beautiful
How wonderful is this? Thank you!
Chilling. I saw him sing this several years, beautiful.
really nice version of my favorite PR song. great atmospheric fiddling, Mark. great dobroing, Jerry, as always. And great singing and great (but not enough) yodeling, Peter. super trio!
This is great! Thanks for posting.
gotta love this ....
So pure
What a wonderful session and I understand that this was a rare joint, but I saw them playing in Japan about 25 years ago.
I remeber that.
Can't beat those 40 series Martins
I think this was the guitar made by Wayne Henderson. A killer guitar.
I saw Peter Rowan do an electric version of this song a few years ago at the Strawberry Music Festival in California. It was amazing. I've been trying to find a recording ever since.
Try Old and in the Way.
.....Chills....
SUPERB ! But it could be even better with mandolin and harmonies, but I understand why this trio, SUPERB !
Sam Bush was unavailable.
I mean, having a full-size camera held 6" from your right hand while playing a dobro doesn't seem like it'd be annoying at all...
What year was this? Tremendous song and performance. Not to mention haircuts!
@@cheryltrozelle4855 Nah. Everything about this video looks 80s.
Not sure. But it was in Dublin, Ireland.
If you don’t like this I just can not with you.
It's just the land of the savages and I not calling the Navajo the savages!!!
Micah Greeson. I know Right? Mark O'Conner too.
"Land of the Mullets"
the guitar---is it 00 or 000-45? year?
The ridiculous notion of the Nobel savage, men have always been men and will always be men… in need of a redeemer!
On
Silly Peter. Bison aren't a significant part of Navajo culture. "Buffalo" and "Navajo" may rhyme but they don't belong together.
I would not say the greatest if you ask Peter he will straight up say Charles sawtelle and you don't get any better than vassar clements
