Just bought this album from the thrift store. .50 cents...Its worth gold to me those boys are at the top of their game...scalding performance. Back in the day at the festivals to hear this sound coming down threw the holler was heaven.
lisahuskey, I am a bass player and have been for over thirty years. I consider your husband to be one of my mentors in bass playing. May he rest in peace. God Bless You Basfiddler.
OMG, it does *not* get any better. When it comes to bluegrass musicians, these guys are the cream of the crop, even today. Outstanding picking and fiddlin, and singing so sweet it's almost painful. This is no breezy exercise in nostalgia; these guys leave it all on the stage. Just perfect!
I was blessed to enjoy a great and long conversation about playing the bass with Roy one afternoon years ago at Telluride. He was a master of country and bluegrass bass, and was learning to play reggae for PR at that time.
My bass heroes are Bobby Moore, Roy Huskey Jr., his son Roy Huskey Jr. Hoss Linneman, and Jake Tullock. These people knew how to "lay it down". May those who've gone on rest in peace. You are not forgotten.
Wow! Great line-up with a lot of the best BG musicians of the day. Would like to have heard Alan O'Bryant playing some banjo, though. Kentucky Thunder has carried on with a band sound similar to this with heavy driving rythm and excellent soaring vocals.
