Tilt-wall... We do same here in Mich. Square wall, ply, Housewrap, full overhang (frieze, soffit, fascia) and as much siding as possible goes on. We have a skytrak though so even a 60' wall goes right up, easy peasy
@awesomeframers ..how is the sub fascia height determined higher up past the top plate? Also how do you know the height soffit is set at depending on pitch of truss ?
I know you are self-deprecating, but attaching the soffit like that is borderline _genius_ , in my opinion! Not only is it easier, but you get the added bonus of helping keep the wall straight?! Super nice
@para keet They aren't illegal. Did I say in the video that we skip lookouts? No, I talked about adding them to the wall before they went up. Once they are up cutting in lookouts is easy.
weused to do the long walls first so we could prime the pine install windows and doors if they were there and snap lines to add the gutters before we lifted the walls
I do the same thing with the gables when framing with trusses but most of the time I'm only doing the framing so I don't have to worry about the siding. How do you get away with do siding without having a shear nailing inspection first? You must have a reasonable inspector that knows your work or they're just not as strict as they are here
How does it work with building inspectors where you are? We (in Vancouver) have to have a framing inspection before we are allowed to paper a house, so that they can see the nailing pattern in the sheeting.
This is the magic of Zip System to me. All the field nailing can be seen and even through the tape you can check spacing and overdriven fasteners. For siding the gables, we don't ask, we just do it because they can't see it. I record video showing the nailing if they ask. Where we are currently building only the shearwalls that aren't prescriptive are required to be inspected.
@@AwesomeFramers well that's genius. We don't have any zip system in our lumber yards, we always seem to be the last to the party, materials and tools. Thanks for the reply.
@para keet You don't know what you are talking about with Zip System. We've been using it since 2009. During the winter when we don't have siding on guess how many leaks we get? Zero. Same with the roof product. Zero leaks before the roofing is on.
and if you have a bump up in your foundation/slab it will translate into your wall if you aren't paying attention. And trying straightening a wall with the soffit on is pretty difficult, ask me how I know. After learning from that I always either string lined/sited the wall on the floor straight so that soffit would hold it straight after installing. clear as mud?
I forgot to cover that. We built that wall 6" away so we could run it past. Since we were lifting with a forklift, we could slide it tight. Good question, thx for watching 🙏🙏
Do you have a gear list? I am looking for some new boots, do you have any recommendations? Also maybe some other gear you like? Belt brand? Hammer? I just know you probably use good stuff

Why 24” oc and not 16” with the wall studs?
No reason to go 16" on this one. 24" carries the loads and allows for more insulation.

Its the Pacific Northwest, Washington St
Why the spiral bit for window openings?
The spiral cuts faster and the 1/4" bit isn't as hard on the router.
How do you stand those walls with the soffit hanging past the end? I’m sure there’s a simple solution but I just can’t see it 🙃
