I still like the horizontal installation for the zip because it staggers the seams better. Maybe I'm wrong. I like regular plywood anyway and TWO layers of Tyvek, which is the recommended installation.

Vapour is the fourth control layer. Rain screens are just such a no brainer for the longevity if an assembly.

I believe this insulation math needs to be combined with HVAC math to bring costs down. If one is using a Mitsubishi “34-SEER” to heat and cool with fans running 24/7, your consuming the amount of energy of a “space heater” to heat & cool the entire house. Almost to the the point of going “net-negative “ in energy consumption.
That said, I want a 6 foot by 6 foot farmers fireplace 2 feet off the ground. Real wood burning.

The Huber ZIP R-X Sheathing-system makes your wall vapor tight which is not something you want with a wooden framed wall.
Even worse, it makes your wall vapor thight at the outside which is something to avoid at all cost in a cold climate.
What you need are walls that are *air tight but vapor open* at both sides of the wall, such a wall can be used in all climate zones and with all kinds of insulation material between those two air tight layers.
The insulation material should also be vapor open.
For walls below grade, a vapor tight layer can be used but only at the outside.
