I had seen ur video once just to make sure i was doing it right i got my first 2001 roadking im 20, last Saturday, i would start up n notice the lights of the check engine then i turned it on @ night and seen the light and got a bit concerned, came back to your video looks like thats normal 🎉
You dont have to touch the pilot air screw at all after initial idle adjustment. Just choke approximately 30 seconds for cold start.
That is standard procedure for pretty much all carb and especial a cv but with the Mikuni after the initial few seconds of startup you can tailor your idle based on conditions. Essentially it is almost a variable choke. You will get different initial rpms in cool vs cold vs freezing startup. Two different ways to get to the same result.
I changed to a mikuni over the cv on a 98 WG and what a difference!,
Better start, better running and more horse, it’s a great up grade.
The idle I just set and forget.
Nice bike mate.
For anyone wondering about the weird startup you can also do what the manual says but since on a Mikuni the idle speed adjuster controls air it is basically being shown as a variable choke here. A CV carb choke is actually an enrichener and adds fuel.
You do NOT want to mess with the idle control once you have it set correctly. If it's set right, there's no need. And, if the choke control is installed correctly you don't need to hold it. You definitely need some work on that bike.
And yet they literally designed the Mikuni with an extended adjuster for on the fly tweaks. You could also run the choke full and then half on till it was warm and then go but I find the idle control gives you better control based on ambient temp. Ive tested this extensively and have checked the plug color to confirm. With a CV carb you wouldn't change it but the choke on the CV is actually an enrichener as you probably know.

Hi, did you make any modifications to the air-box when installing the Mikuni? The HSR42 comes with an adapter for CV air-boxes, is it enough? Thanks a lot.
My airbox was already the open stage 1 k&n style versus the enclosed plastic airbox. I also have an external breather filter.
@@rhodeisland_roadking Thanks.
What brand and model number is your oil temperature gage ? I have a 2000 RK Classic. Thanks

My 94 Heritage soft tail is way easier to start. I will definitely keep my CV carberator.
Your loss...loved my CV but if you want thrills you go Mikuni. If you want smooth and mpg you go CV.
Not sure how your soft tail was easier. Everything in the video was standard operating procedure except you can adjust the idle (which is great for long distance riding). Easier would be fuel injection.
Start the bike hold the throttle till it’s a bit warm and go done no need to do the idle screw every time wast is time 😂
What if I told you we were both doing the same thing in a different manner but my way allows you to finish getting ready while your way you have to sit there and feather the throttle.
