Thank you for the great video. I have been doing my research for a while and this is the one I am going with. Your 8 month review just cemented my decision. You have a new subscriber.
Hey Eric, I think it'll really depend on what you plan on doing. If you are thinking sausages in the future, 100% go with the 1600. You cannot beat it. My recteq 1250 cannot do proper sausages, its extreme smoke mode is still too hot. From my testing, S mode is supposed to be 180* but it actually drops down into the 150s. Perfect for sausages and amazing for bark buildup using pellets. If you are only going to do briskets, chicken, pork or what have you, the 1150 is AMAZING. Very hard to beat.
Good video, after 8 months you would be the on to know things that I would not as a 1st time Pellet grill shopper. I am torn between the Aviator Pitt Boss & the Pro Series. Which one should I purchase? (Both 1150's). Thank you in advance
I have one and one thing that I have done for easy clean up is use oven liners on top of the smoker below the grill. I cut them to fit on both sides of the smoker and put under the sliding panel

I agree on racks the upper rack gets pulled during alot of my cooks. I don't sear on it. I used my 6 burner. I also found the shelf while handy but anything tall lid hits it. The truth from grills to smokers you need to learn what your working with. I married into large Italian family now I'm running smokers or grills for 60 plus. I've thought about doing just this, it might even waste less pellets since it's not having to compensate for the leakage or anything of the sort. I'll probably end up doing it eventually.
It does happen that's definitely correct. Depending on your cook, I would put it fat side down and if possible a piece of foil paper on the heat shield so it doesn't create a fire as well.
Yeah that top rack can be a pain. I go at it from an angle, start from the corner of the bottom rack, angle the top side over the rail, then go to the far left so you can bring up the other side and then set it in. That has worked the best for me.
Great vids..I am going by your info vs pit boss because much of the time these people on the phone don't know what they are talking about! ..eg Smoke mode. Also I like the build quality. Any plans to do that temp modification? I hear there is one that goes right over the fire box..evens out temps but you have to put it on a sliding lever or move it outta the way to direct sear.
Hey Great White North, I feel some of the folks on the phones don't own these smokers or are fully trained on them so i go off of my own personal experience. I haven't had the need for the modification that goes right over the firebox. Personally, I just learned how this smoker works and use it to our advantage. It's not all that bad and I like it this way so I can have the brisket point on the hotter end, same thing with whole chickens having the leg/thigh on the hotter end. Works great!
So subscribed! First ever cook tried some brined salmon at 190F and then tonight 2.5 hrs smoke( top rack with drip pan underneath) on a Wagyu tomahawk at 190F...it actually got up to 130F internal. It's crazy hot up here...we have never, never seen outside temps of 106F!! And yeah...I found there is no 180F on the smoker..its just "S" like you said which is smoke mode. Does it create more smoke? Only time will tell. Keep smoking buddy! Keep the great vids coming.
You'll notice in smoke mode that the pellets smolder instead of keeping a fire going. When the temps drop, a fire gets ignited then goes off again letting the pellets smolder once more. I noticed this after a cook, I open up the sear plate and look inside and there is a bed of pellets in there just smoldering without a fire. Temps drop, it feeds it fresh pellets and the fire starts again. It's a very good way of doing it, almost like the Traegers super smoke mode. We've done salmon as well, fantastic on the smoker!!
Some folks put foil paper in the middle where the burn pot is on the deflector plate to prevent that from happening. As far as grease in the barrel, that's a new one for me but I'd make sure that the smoker is level so that it can drain down and out of the barrel.
Not at all! It's actually super easy because the one on the hopper is just a screw and you pull the door to get the pellets out but if you want to remove the ones inside the auger, simply remove the easy ash cleanout and prime the auger. Super simple!
Have you noticed any smoke leaking from the easy ash clean out tray?? Mine doesn't seal tight for what ever reason and smoke leaks out, not sure if this affects anything?...btw awesome vid, I agree 100%, you can't beat the price for everything it has.
I have not. The seal at the bottom is pretty good, I'd do a good clean out on it, make sure you really push up against the seal before sliding it over and locking it down to help prevent this from happening. Hope this helps!
