  • In today's video we are talking the Pit Boss Pro Series 1600 vs the Weber SmokeFire pellet grill, and which one I would buy if I could only pick one. My goal with this video was to help educate you on the differences between the Pit Boss and the Weber, and to share with you which one I would buy and why if I could only pick one. Now, both the Pit Boss and Weber pellet grills are fantastic, and I have cooked some amazing food on both, but in the end...only one met my needs and I will explain the reason for that. See the specs below for more information, and as always thank you so much for watching, and feel free to drop a comment with any questions!

    Dude, nice job on this comparison. I also agree about grease management. I think Weber has a huge ego and refuses to address that mistake. That said If Weber would address the grease and also the way it delivers pellets9the pellets get hung up) this thing would rock! Nice Job man!

      @@peterprescott4136 agree to disagree. In my opinion it is not a practical design at all. I don’t find the smoke flavor to be anymore pronounced from the Pit Boss, Traeger, Pellet Pro, RecTeq, etc. I think the only thing that SmokeFire can do is completely sear across the whole surface, which really doesn’t matter to me. I don’t use a pellet cooker for grilling. I’m glad to hear you’ve had a great experience with yours, but the common denominator from others has been lots of problems. Alas, most are user error, and I’ve never personally had an issue. I like the cooker, but I don’t find it to be a superior product such as a Lonestar Grillz or a Yoder Smoker. Especially for the price point.

    • @peterprescott4136
      @peterprescott4136 2 года назад

      @@AshKickinBBQ don’t know what to say. Using their pellets the smoke profile is obviously better than those you mentioned. Also, if you’ve never had an issue personally and you believe those who do are likely to blame for the issue, why would one conclude the design isn’t practical unless that was their predetermined thoughts. Lastly the price point is way below the Yoders. Way below. Heavy isn’t always better either. Products can be overbuilt and outlast their practical usefulness. Pellet grills built like offsets are ridiculously overbuilt. But like you said, agree to disagree. It’s just a shame people keep knocking the thing even though they have no problems personally. It’s just group think. They had software issues for sure but they’ve largely been resolved for 18 months or so. Hey keep up the nice content. I enjoy your presentation. 👍🏻

      @@peterprescott4136 I’m blaming the issue on the fact that I do know people who have had issues. I just said what I didn’t like about the cooker from a consumer standpoint, and the fact the Weber refuses to acknowledge any mistakes in their end, and in fact accused a RUclipsr who was one of the first to test the SmokeFire as “not knowing how to cook” isn’t a good look. That being said, if you are not diligent in cleaning the SmokeFire there will 100% be issues. Even other owners have stated this on previous videos. One other thing to keep in mind is location. As someone who lives in Minnesota, I appreciate the build on Yoders, and I also appreciate their 10 year warranty. It’s kind of a buy once cry once deal. Perhaps I will do a side by side flavor comparison to the Weber and Pit Boss and see if an unbiased party has opinion on the flavor profiles. Pit boss using pit boss pellets, and Weber using Weber pellets? Thanks for the discussion man, it’s nice to have a civil discussion with someone who is educated in cookers for sure. Also, I appreciate your kind words and support on the channel, truly means a lot man!

Lately, they keep raising their prices and reducing their included features which makes me feel their are better bangs for my bucks out there on the market!!!

    I got an EX6 and agree with the grease management system. Never had an issue with it but see the potential for issues. That said, I use pans under protean on longer cooks and I clean it out before each cook (a 5 minute procedure) . The hopper is the other issue, I don't like filling it; no matter how careful I am, I always get pellets between the hopper and grill. Never really had a pellet bridging issue but I check it every couple of hours or so. All that said, the food this thing puts out is top notch. Great color, bark, and even though it is just cosmetic, the smoke rings are off the hook. Also get some good smoke flavor off this. I don't have a Pitt Boss to compare. I had a Brunswick before the SF and the Brunswick had a grease fire and was sent back (talk about irony with the grease issues of Weber, LOL).

    great video and overview, thanks for putting this together. I have a 1100 series and seen the 1600 at Lowes and love the new design, weight, new features, etc., overall built much better. I am glad you mentioned the cold and how this holds the temp since they do not make a blanket for it like i have for the 1100 and sounded like it does retain the heat when the temp is in the teens or lower. Have you had any issues with the flame boiler plate/slider. mine tends to get gummed up and have to clean it more than i would have to with my treager since i can put foil on theirs and makes cleanup much faster with theirs.
    Also any issues with paint on the back side, mine in the first year discolored then started getting bigger, had to sand down the large area and repaint.

    The flavorizor bars allow smoke to go straight to your product vs a deflector shield, this creates a much better flavor in the end. The grease management is basically the same as the most sold grill ever, their kettle

    • @AshKickinBBQ
      @AshKickinBBQ  2 года назад +2

      Yeah, I’ve heard that, and I disagree about the flavorizer bars attributing to any better smoke flavor in the end. And yeah, grease management in a kettle and vs. a pellet grill with powered convection is completely different.

    • @23lees
      @23lees Год назад +1

      Have you seen the blind taste test with GMG, Weber, Yoder and Pitts/Spitts? Both guys picked the Weber ribs and attributed it to direct access to the smoke.
      You add 1/2 pan to catch drippings while smoking and you have an incredible smoker, you remove the pan and you have an incredible grill. Pitt Boss is a sub par grill. Most people use this price point of a pellet grill for both smoking and grilling.

  • @footballmorse
    @footballmorse Год назад +1

    I have the ex4 the pros for me thicker metal so more heat retention, I do like the grease management system as it makes for easy cleaning just brush everything to the hole and dump the pan. I used both I would say the smoke is more on the weber since it is open. The controller is the best I have used. The con for me you have to use weber as a part source as the grill is too new. The grill is made with porcelain coating which we all know how long that will last. The pit boss is a nice cooker, but the big con is that is made with painted steel and starts to rust, but you can repaint, and parts are very easy to get.

      That’s because smoke flavor is subjective. So no it’s really not hard to make a decision since smoke tubes can be added for more flavor. That’s being said, I prefer the Pit Boss smoke flavor.

    At least the Weber is made in USA. Right in Chicago. Treager, pit boss and many other cheaper ones are made in china. Weber built way heavier also. Check out those heavy duty castor wheels.

    Those diamond grates are a PAIN IN THE ASS TO CLEAN. Other than that the PitBoss 850 is working great after 1 year . Webber needs to wake up and fix the grease issue. Webber has an attitude issue. The PitBoss app sucks, after about a year I still can not get it dialed in. I have used the PitBoss in -30deg temps and just let it cook. Works great

    What you have to realize about this Weber is that it is primarily a GRILL and not a low n slow smoker. The Weber is far, far, far, superior to any gas grill. I will never use a gas grill again for the rest of my life. It's the best thing since sliced bread for grilling steaks, brats, and burgers. "Grilling!"
    Sure, you can do a low n slow, but you will have to use a heat shield such as foil pans or cookie sheets. It will do smoked briskets and pork butts extremely well but you must make adjustments, and it's all about leaning how to adjust. 😉

  • @joeweaver9913

    in terms of the looks of the unit, the weber is a far better-looking smoker grill, and you know that the porcelain-coated enamel they use will out-live all of us. That said, I have two weber gas grills and my smoker is a pit boss vertical smoker. As pointed out at the end, these smoker grills are a compromise, with the weber perhaps being a better grill and the pit boss perhaps being the better smoker. for the cost of these pricy units, you could buy a decent weber gas grill and a decent pit boss vertical smoker for about the same amount and get the best of both worlds...not to mention that for a huge cook-out, you now have a lot more square inches of cooking surface because you have two units rather than one. i don't understand the fascination with pellet grills when pellet vertical smokers are superior smokers, and gas grills are superior grills, esp for weeknights after work when i just want to turn it on and and have it heated up in 5 minutes.

    • @AshKickinBBQ
      @AshKickinBBQ  2 года назад +2

      Eh, I have a couple Pit Boss verticals and I wouldn't say they're superior. But to each their own! I personally don't own a gas grill, and I never plan to. I have no problem waiting for charcoal to get ready.

    To me, at the end of the day, the Weber name is not worth ~$200 and ~500in of cooking space. Aside from the issue the Pit Boss carried things standard the Weber makes you pay for. And that Weber doubled down on their terrible grease management system and said, "Clean your grill out. It won't be a problem."
    If I really want to sear, I can use a culinary torch. Or transfer it to a Kettle. Or, on a Pit Boss, just sear a couple at a time..which honestly is all I want to sear at a time. Because I can't control searing 10 burgers/steaks at once.
