- This video brings you not just moments from Swedish Air Kayak Day (Luftkajakens dag) 2024 in Stockholm, Sweden, with inflatable and folding kayaks joining for some island exploration on Stockholm waters, but also a bit of a birds-eye view of inflatable kayaking and folding kayaks in general in connection as it relates to the background of and the strategic purpose of Swedish Air Kayak Day. The video explains this and shows connected events from 2022 - 2024 and points to coming activities going forward! Video by Patrik Vuorio, co-project lead and initiator of the concept of Swedish Air Kayak Day, an annual event which first took place in 2023.

This video is not just about Swedish Air Kayak Day as an event, but also a strategic look at the "community within the community" of paddlers with inflatable and folding kayaks within the larger international community of kayakers or paddlers in general. This event is just one cog in that big machine, but it was a fun one. 🙂 Do you have similar gatherings for inflatable or folding kayaks where you are? Do you mostly paddle alone or with others? Do you paddle together with hardshell kayaks? Share your experience, or ask questions!
Great concept, many people use inflatables alone, which is good, but group events add a lot to the experience
@@davidpoots8362 Good point. This event is specifically for that, as many inflatable kayakers do just that - paddle by themselves, and seldom have the opportunity to build a network as they're not connected to a kayak club. Plus, it's a nice way to showcase this kind of kayaking to a broader audience.
It’s so great to have such an amazing community!
@@Fishaholicboy Indeed! This one is still growing, and in Stockholm we're not that many, but the 30 or so participants we had last year in combination with this event and others show the value of connecting like this. Is there something similar in HK?
Thank you for organizing this day, it was fun to participate!
Most welcome and thanks for joining! It was great to have you and Erika along for the inflatable and folding kayak paddling trip / parade!
Thank you everyone who joined the premiere of this video - and of course all participants in Swedish Air Kayak Day 2024 on site and in other locations in Sweden 🙂
This was a great video Patrik and the live chat was fun. So happy plenty of people tuned out to watch live with you.
Thank you George! Yes, it was fun - didn't expect many to turn up as it was short notice, less than a day, but we had a good growd and fun discussions! Time flies when you watch a video like the one from Swedish Air Kayak Day this way. Thanks for joining in! 🙂
@@AirOnTheWater You're welcome.
Hey thank for sharing these great content. Do you know if have similar group in Portugal? Cheers, from Setubal, Portugal
@@AlexandreLeiteAraujo Glad you liked the video! Nice to hear from a paddler in Portugal. Unfortunately I don't know of similar groups over there. It's been a while since I visited myself. I've been in Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra among other locations. I understand you guys have some massive waves in some locations.
@@AirOnTheWater no problem, maybe it is time to start one :) Here I’m kayaking on the sea near shore, in Setubal region during the summer it is very calm the sea.
@@AlexandreLeiteAraujo Nice! Yes, that's a good solution which I've used as well where I've seen a need. I've created the Paddling safety Facebook group for example, and the larger Winter kayaking, which might be a bit cold for your taste 😎

Are you OK with knees being so high? Is it more efficient?
I tend to put them down no higher than side of the boat on my race500.
So that legs are almost straight.
In this case there was a lot of hurry as I was the organizer of the event, borrowed one of my other kayaks to a participant and helped ensure that was inflated, and then had this kayak set up as well. The foot rest didn't end up being placed optimally so I made do with the position I had rather than spending time to reset as the event was about to start.
