It might be controversial but the very very last solo on this recording might be my favorite solo I've ever listened to. That crazy Octavia/ wah solo sounds otherworldly

It's SO good! I have transcribed that solo too! You can get the PDF and play through video of it if you Paypal me (see description). I have done it note for note but it's really difficult to get the harmonics that Jimi gets! I suppose doing it straight into GarageBand doesn't help! hahaha

Could not agree with you more deffo my favourite bit of hendrix and from 7m5sec in is superb. Acid drenched is a decent description for once but that's me! Thought I was the only person who thought this. I had the album when I was 19 and I'm 53 now and still listen to it regularly there's something about it that's magical. It's funky and you can tell the 60s are over and it's all gonna change

@@paulcheney3636 jimi's version of born under a bad sign on the 'blues' album is a great example of this sort of playing and done in a studio setting. If you've not heard that I would definitely check it out! One of my favourites of his playing

I agree. One of the greatest guitar solos in history. All the covers wisely avoid it. It sounds like an alien giving birth in another galaxy.

no one can improvise such beautiful melodies with that feeling, intention and art. He's simply from another planet. I can sing along to this the whole day and he came up with it as he went along. thanks jimi for everything!

I am mainly an 80s hard rocker player, but Jimi can just take you places like no one else. When I figure out a cool lead or song, it tends to lose its luster a bit. I refuse to learn the last solo in this one because it is so magical, and I would rather keep it that way. I would never be able to cop that feel he has anyway, so exalted it remains.

These covers ALWAYS omit the final solo, which is one of the greatest things I've ever heard. It can't be duplicated even with correct notes and pauses, because without the spirit of Hendrix driving it.....forget it. Be that as it may it sounds to me like the birth cries of an alien baby in another galaxy. Jimi was mainly a studio musician, in that when with Redding and Mitchel he was with 2 other virtuoso players and they sorted things out better in a studio setting. Live they were often sloppy. But with Cox and Miles, who were a more earthy rhythm section, Jimi's live stuff got tighter. Who Knows is, in the end solo, a piece of sublime genius. I think it's astonishing and as a good guitar player, I don't even attempt it. Even if I got every phrase under my fingers, I could never get it really right. Only one man could do that, and he died on my birthday in 1970, the worst present i ever got. Imagine the body of work he would have by now if he was still around. As is, ,his stuff will be immortal to players as long as there are ears smart enough to really hear what this great artist made. I dropped acid when electric Lady land came out and it just took me somewhere else. I could say too much but anyone who really HEARD him already knows.

    • @learnguitarsongs2710

I've been meaning to give an explanation on that but there are plenty of videos already on how to do it. Search 'hendrix bend' and you'll be sure to find it. It is really difficult at first as its not how you'd usually bend (well for me at least) but practice gets you there. It tore my fingers to shreds practicing it tho so if you've got a guitar with 9s or lower on, practice on that to save your fingers! Thanks
