I think people react so crazy to the random shots before Adam watts says the heaven knows I’ll give you hell line is the same reason why they reacted so crazy to Broken City 2019 where they all moved their drums and then their heads at the same time (if you know what I’m talking about). No one’s ever done it before, it’s just different and its what keeps this activity fresh
Can y’all review Broken City 2017 in the lot? I think it’s a really quality recording and it is by far my favorite broken city show. I saw it live and they won silver.
Instead of a single-serve viewing, BCP's shows are seemingly designed to be experienced after you've watched several hours of drums in a gym and now your teeth hurt
There has to be something said for the level of excellence they continued to have since 2016. I know a lot of people don't like their style, especially drumline people. As a front ensemble member, they are looked at as the pinnacle of musicality and playing with a purpose. On a side note, those TAMA/Bergerault instruments look incredible. Also, this point of the season till Long Beach Groups really start to ramp up the details.
Glad to see someone else with a front ensemble perspective. those keyboard players display an unparalleled level of musicianship year after year. The most dynamically complex and cohesive front in the entire marching arts activity.
@@nzane1216 I think Vanguard is also a beautiful example as well. Both Vanguard and Broken City just play with such a symphonic sound and approach. They bridge the gap between marching and concert percussion.
I don't know what was up with them at this lot. I was standing about 10 feet away on the right side while he was recording this. I thought they were cleaner at the La Quinta show, which was a month earlier. Maybe it was the time change, which was the night before. This was the dirtiest i can recall them ever being in a lot. But, about 45 minutes later, they were pretty good in the gym. Maybe this lot was just a fluke. The old saying is don't leave your best performance on the practice field. This day was just the opposite.

I think you two should start focusing your videos less on sifting out errors in performance, but rather on appreciating the identity of each group ever year. A lot of these kids (including myself in the past) work many long hours just to watch you two call them out on a dirty roll. I understand the point of view of critique, but leave it to the judges. I’d really love to see the videos start to move in a more positive direction.
I like hearing both positive and negative. Not so much from a performance standpoint because judging through video is problematic. Content, however, can be well viewed in most instances. Pointing out things they like and dislike can be interesting. As a performer it can be hard to take criticism. No one likes having their hard work shat upon. Being positive all the time (or even just not negative) is not healthy. Not everyone is going to like what you do or how you do it. That does not make the critics wrong, and it does not mean that the performers suck. I harken back to a comment I read way, way back on Drum Corps Planet: we are dealing with experienced seasoned performers voluntarily taking part in a subjectively evaluated activity open to criticism.
These guys do an impressive job of simultaneously giving the benefit of the doubt due to recording position, listening critically, and appreciating the well executed phrases that are there. It's a blatant mischaracterization to think tic-calling is their primary focus, especially in these early season vids (end of season, another story lol). Calling out dirt is just stating facts and they could easily be much more negative. A bunch of the old heads I know would trash this entire lot for lack of clarity but i'm glad these guys CLEARLY respect the performers and are never unprofessional. With your experience, I'm sure you're aware of how people really talk about these drumlines in real life. The negativity there can be abhorrent, even from other kids they compete with.
This is a competitive activity. Acting like critique is bad is acting like playing while moving is bad. It's an integral part of this activity and I'm pretty tired of people acting shocked when they get critiqued. Same thing NBA/MLB/NHL/NFL fans do.
As a performer, I’d much rather have my audience be genuine and honest about my performance, as opposed to just sugar coating things. Because if myself/my ensemble objectively aren’t as good as others in my class, I wanna know that. That critique can be used to elevate me/my ensemble to the next level. Aged Out does a phenomenal job of providing objective unbiased critiques without being condescending or taking away from an ensembles achievement. This is also the highest tier you can reach in the activity, and it sounds like you want fans to just sit back and not form their own opinions about productions. Which takes away from the fans experience. Maybe you shouldn’t be involved in an achievement based activity if you don’t want people to critique you when you do or don’t achieve at this level.
Every reply here is right, how boring would it be if all they did was praise every group? I wanna hear constructive criticism, the differences in strength and clarity between other groups and what theyre playing, all while respecting the performers and acknowledging strengths and weaknesses

Their show on the floor is crazy.. not just musically demanding but also physically.. I am hoping this show wins this year.
Really looking forward to see it in person. Heard good things about the design.
Dude their bassline is fucking cursed with injuries....needa bubble boy the whole bassline next year for the whole season lol
I appreciate the steady improvement of quality in the quads over the past three years. Content and playing wise.
You guys should react to Broken city 17 before or after this upcoming wgi season

They somehow continue to have an unbelievable snare line, that snare break is dope. Also, the timpanist is killing it!
For the reactions. ✊

“New-win” lol. It happens to the best of us.
To me, this book has the best all-around writing in terms of interaction between front and battery. Great musical development.
Alexander Nguyen with the shout out 😱

Yeppp that would be me about YT premium 😊, great content as always guys
There's no way you think that's actually how you say Nguyen!
Yeah, I think it should be pronounced as "win". At least that's the only way I've heard it pronounced.
@@project_jdm Maybe with a slight ‘n’ sound before ‘win’? But yeah definitely not the Hooked On Phonics pronunciation 😂
Get em!
Pronounced nWin with a very soft N at the front. Vietnamese in origin, I think
"Nu-win" is a commonly accepted way is mispronouncing it. The real way is too much of a bother unless you really want to learn Vietnamese lol

Can you guys react to infinity 2 this year too?
Y'all should do s video on connexus. They are fireeeeeee
I wish I could get 4000 subs by recording myself calling out ticks
Are you going to do United 2023
We are planning on it but need a good quality video to pop up first. Same with GMU and Infinity
👍
its pronounced like "WIN".......
I’ve been told now and have learned. Legitimately didn’t know lol -Mike
