My Brother in law knew him .. he was a prison guard on the block he was housed on the last few years of his life up untill he died in new york… he said that Butch was “Not there” when you would talk to him.. like he was out of his mind completely nuts.. he was a calm and docile prisoner.. you could never get him to answer any questions about what happen with his family.. the inly time he would ever refer to them was in the past tense.. that was once a year when prison administrators would update all the inmates emergency contact information. They would ask “ Butch you have someone you want us to contact incase of an emergency, like relatives?” … he would always say “Not anymore.” With a smirk.

DeFeo died in prison in March of 2021- but yeah, I'd like to think he never would have been paroled...but with some of the examples of the Justice system...you never know.

None of the nearby neighbors heard the gun shots either. If you've ever been woken by a very loud noise, you don't know what exactly it is the woke you usually. So, if it was only one gunshot, that would be one thing. One neighbor reported hearing a barking dog, but NO ONE said that they had heard gunshots.

Butch did not tell the truth one time. No one could believe anything he said after he admitted killing them all. He may have been abused by his dad, but the kids posed him no threat to him except when it came time to collect on life insurance.

I believe there was a thunderstorm the night of the murders and because it was the middle of the night, perhaps they all were just heavy sleepers and just didn't hear it coming, as butch said it happened so fast....... but I've never understood how and why they all were found on their stomachs. THAT is very odd. I never sleep on my stomach but on that night you have 6 people that did.
