The Z-95 reminds me of the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, an American single seat, single engine, monoplane fighter that entered service shortly before WWII. Fast, hard hitting, fairly nimble, and surprisingly durable, the rugged P-40 was the most advanced fighter the US had when it entered the war, and like the Z-95 they were widely exported via Lend Lease to countries such as Britain, Australia, New Zealand, China, Canada, and even the USSR. They even had two main fuselage designs, just like the Headhunter. The early models had a more slimmed down nose, making them faster, and were armed with four 30 caliber machine guns in the wings and two 50 caliber machine guns in the nose. But from the P-40E onwards, the Warhawk revived a thicker, heavier front section, along with a more powerful engine and additional armor. They also equipped the P-40 with the standard armament of six wing-mounted 50 cals, and they also equipped pylons where the P-40 could carry bombs or external fuel tanks. Despite not being as fast or maneuverable as contemporary German fighters, the Warhawks saw combat on all fronts in the first two years of the war, and gained a reputation for their reliability, ruggedness, survivability, and stability. They especially made their name in the Asian front, with the legendary American Volunteer Group, the Flying Tigers, serving in the Chinese Air Force. Although mostly retired by 1943, the P-40s continued to see service until the end of the war. Additionally, the T-65 seems to represent the follow North American P-51 Mustang, a legendary fighter that would change the tide of the war and became an icon of not just US aircraft, but aviation in general.
Z-95: *exist* Rebel alliance: We've multiplied their wings by 2! :D (by creating T-65 X-Wing) Resistance: But we gave 'em back their old turbines (by creating T-70 X-Wing)
warhawk9566 I thought the same thing. I wondered why the V-wing never appeared in the series, despite being a very common Republic Fighter. Maybe we’ll see it in the new season.
The absence of a second pair of S-foils in the Headhunter can be explained that the ordnance handlers wanted to fit missile launcher pods/boxes under the first pair.
They were probably reassigned to Kamino under Janitorial Duties, Coruscant to work at the Clone Bar, or as Instructors for future clones? These are just my best guesses
I love your videos. It would be awesome if you could do a video about the guys in purple robes consulting the emperor in Return of The Jedi. Their identity is really mysterious and would be great to get some closure and maybe add depth into the plot of Return of The Jedi to know why they were there.
I feel like if you did these vids more like SpaceDock, they would be cooler. I wouldn't mind seeing a little longer video for the starfighter personally
Love your channel. Have my Coffee in the morning and get my Star Wars fix before reading the depressing news... If there is enough info could you do a video on the Imperial Assault Gunboat? Ive only seen it in the Tie Fighter game. I dont know if it has appeared anywhere else. Keep up the good work. Cheers man.
So POE masqueraded as the Irving boys !?,...who stole the Falcon before Unkar did,... so technically the irving boys were doing bad ass gangster shit in the falcon and x wings !! ?? !!
By the time of the interim between the second and third trilogies, the T-16 Skyhopper was obsolete, so Poe's team used Headhunters since the control layout is similar to the X-Wing.
The more you learn about tech in Star Wars the more you realise how long it all friggin lasts, how old is the Falcon? Like at least 50 years old in TFA.
I've been a fan of the Z-95 since LucasArts' X-Wing game. I can't seem to find a clear answer though on whether or not there were any Z-95s in the prequel movies? Anyone know?
So is this considered the main fighter for the Republic? (Like how vulture droid is for CIS, X-Wing for Rebels and New Reublic, tie fighter for Empire and First Order)
Yes and no. The headhunter is the main fighter for the republic but the ARC-170 was a prominent fighter-bomber that could be considered the true equal to the other fighters you mentioned. It's hard to say that either was the mainline as they both served different, yet similar, purposes.
I wanna know how to arrange them on a shelf one day, for my collection. xD All main fighters here, bombers there, and so on, ha. And wasn't the Y-Wing their bomber, though? And what would be considered their interceptor?
V-19, early light fighter; Z-95, fighter: ARC-170, fighter-bomber; V-wing, interceptor; Y-wing, bomber. Those are the best-known ones, the Republic rapidly progressed in fighter development which results in a lot of overlap.
I don't see how an ARC-170 is like an X-Wing at ALL. How the heck is THAT a precursor?? THIS fighter, though, is DEFINITELY one, for sure! Which were considered the Republic's main go to fighter? Like for Separatists, you have the droid starfighters (Vulture droids) for Empire TIE Fighters, for Rebels X-Wings, and same, though different, for First Order and New Republic/Resistance. But what about the Republic in Clone Wars?
The ARC-170 had s-foils and heavier armament which were the lessons incorporated into the headhunter to become the X-wing. As for the republics main fighter, kind of. The V-19 was clearly the main line in the beginning but it gave way to both the ARC-170 and Z-95. THey were both very common to be used but if you're looking for a fighter the Z-95 would be the mainline as it was air superiority focused while the ARC-170 was a fighter bomber that saw widespread use.
David Banks You're thinking of the ARC-170s. Some of the design language is similar, but the ARC is a much more heavily armed and armoured ship featuring three cockpits.
+DaGerminator yes , I had my wisdom teeth out and kinda high off there gas after they put me to sleep. and ok they just look the same to me idk the names of the ships
Some of it was ridiculous. Some of the new material is ridiculous as well. Just consider the fact that in the EU after Endor we get a new government, a new Jedi Order, Luke gets married, Solo has made his complete transformation from scum smuggler to a family man. Also newer technologies are presented. On the other hand in Episode 7 presents the previous 30 years before the movie as a period where not much happened. Luke is a hermit, Leia and Solo are divorced or smth, while Han and Chewie (for some reason) go back to being scruffy looking nerf herder smugglers just for the satisfaction of the audience and casual SW fans who would have been perplexed if Han was portrayed as he was in the EU. Their characters just didn't seem to develop very much, as if they are the same characters as 30 yrs ago Finally we only get to see similar X-wings (same model), similar tie fighters and an absence of other standard classic ships like y-wings and tie-bombers. Please don't misunderstand me. I loved the new movie, but i also love much of the EU so wiping it all away as non-canon annoyed me a bit. Cheers.
+82christos well in the new canon, not much happened in the way of war machine innovation (like new ships etc) because they created a new republic that was focussing on peace. I'm pretty sure that nothing much happened on a galactic scale so they had little need to develop new weapons, so the innovation was slow. (Though once Leia realised the first order were secretly making an army, she did the same with the resistance. which again the republic wanted nothing to do with, because she was Vaders kid and they were focussing on peace, not her 'lies') I assume Han and Chewy went back to being smugglers, because thats what they knew best. So I assume a mix of being bored with the peaceful life and ashamed of his son, made him run away and do what he knows best. These are all just assumptions as I havent read the books/comics in between the 6th and 7th movie yet, but it sorta fits... in my head anyway haha.
No one:

Thanks for doing the Z -95! It may be my favorite ship.

You may have mentioned it before, but what benefits did starships with astromech support have over those without it?
The astromech will fix some damage on the ship while flying.
Astromech in most cases replace NavCom as calculation unit for hyper jumps. It can also make some emergency repairs in flight but in very limited way.
they can even Be a secondary Pilot, even in esb r2 wanted to fly to dagobah but Luke told that he could do it on his own
