      Not necessarily, this is often either ignored, or often not discussed when talking about intergalactic travel in the SW universe. In the book Outbound Flight, there was an attempt (I won't include spoilers) but let's just say it was not a failure of the project. Also, not discussed as well is the fact the Yuuzon Vong ARE from another galaxy and were only forced to use sublight (at the cost of thousands of years of travel) to reach the SW galaxy. It is explained that they did not have a hyperspace navigation point to actually use hyperspace. Also many books allude to the possibility that some smugglers and others have indeed left the galaxy and survived to tell about it. Look up Vuffi Raa, a "friend" of Lando Calrissian who in addition to being a type of droid is also a member of an intergalactic species known as the Silentium. They and the Abominor are believed to be the races responsible for the xenophobia and destruction of the original Yuuzon Vong homeworld.

    From the global Legends pile of stories, it seems that an ancient, extremely advanced race ruled once the central part of the Galaxy. They were suspected to have left Centerpoint station after engineering the Corellian system.
    With such abilities, it is not impossible that this race saw the rise of the dark Rakatas on Lehon, and tried to stop them by engineering the Tangle and other celestial walls between their realm and the Rakatas.
    But the Rakatan empire did go around or through it, possibly after it began to weaken or simply because it was like the Maginot line : quite easy to go around after all.
    Since the Tangle was supposedly engineered to stop any regular crossing, it isn't quite a surprise that the « core » civilisations didn't cross it. But that's right : it's funny to see how they didn't really care to go around themselves, if it wasn't for sherpa Thrawn's initiative ; and he was a local.
    Was the galactic population culturally afraid of the Unknown Regions, it's dark past and the myths and legends that surely persisted long after the Rakatan demise ?

    • @JohnGeorgeBauerBuis
      @JohnGeorgeBauerBuis 3 года назад +4

      My understanding is that the Celestials were the architects of Centerpoint Station (and at least some of them became the Ones, the Father, Son, and Daughter, and who adopted Abeloth as the Mother before her betrayal and exile) also created the Tangle, due to fear of the Mnggal-Mnggal.

It's not possible for a race to rule the whole galaxy from the unknown regions without having mapped out at least one reliable hyperspace lane from their part of the Unknown Regions to the core worlds.

      TIE Fighter because for it to be unknown, it needs to be uncharted.
      Without charts, no one knows what goes on in there since they don't know what it looks like
      And to chart the place, you need really good cartographers and explorers to actually explore it.
      And since barely anybody wants anything to do with that side of the galaxy (besides the Emperor and his post-mortem Contingency.) so it's still unknown.

    After playing No Man's Sky for about 80 hours, I can absolutely confirm that any kind of "solo mapping of the galaxy" is practically impossible. Even with tens of thousands of people having played the game, I haven't even arrived at a star system that another player has discovered before. So without the vast effort of a huge empire, I can totally understand it going largely unexplored for millenia.

    • @someguy43210
      @someguy43210 5 лет назад +3

      But you can find what you're looking for if you have coordinates, which I used to visit various populated areas in the galaxy, and even to locate a single specific star.
      The game was much more fun without teleportation. At first they didn't allow players to leave a star system if they used portal to get there. Now you can just just portal to the center of the galaxy in one go. Took me about a hundred of blackhole jumps to reach the center.

      So Galactic Civilization has ended due to a war with a Super Weapon but many planets form new Civilizations. The Republic, The Empire, and the First Order are gone but new Factions of one planet, regions on a planet, or multiple regional planets remain. Some technology is lost but there is technology level differences from planet to planet. You have to form a new galactic empire while fixing the environmental and Geological damage from the war.

      Or do you mean a RPG that gives you free will to choose different quests and interact with different programmed characters with its own personality. All in unique different areas of the game world (OR in this case universe). The possibilities would be endless. There would have to be multiple planets with its own unique fictional culture and characters with different backstories, personalities, and physical features. Along with pre-programmed quests unique to each area depending on which galactic faction you are apart of.

    You know what would be a safer way to explore the Unknown Regions?
    System hopping...
    We know here on Earth what the closest solar system to us is and how long it would take us to get there with our current tech.
    If Jakku was the starting point for The Empire to venture out into the Unknown Regions, you'd travel to the solar system closest to it first, and then go from there...
    Like stepping stones, only you're using solar systems instead...
    I'm sure eventually you'll develop a hyperspace lane from that maybe...

    • @ZeroNumerous

      Thing is: To achieve that you'd need to settle on a planet, then start scanning that planet's sky to map out the local systems. Then start sending out probe droids to see if there's any debris between you and the target system. If there is, then you have to skip to the next system.

    Really nice content!
    From a scientific viewpoint the whole Star Wars Galaxy has a big mistake, though. In Galaxies the core region of the galaxy is the region with the dangerous radiation, the black holes, the gravity anomalies and so on. That's why life is possible on earth. It is out there in a remote side arm, where life like we know it is possible because there is lot of space between stars and thus not in a constant danger of being wiped out by the next gamma ray burst or supernova or similar things.
    So basically... the whole Star Wars Galaxy is kind of backwards. The core is the life friendly zone and the rim is the dangerous zone. It should be the other way round

    I'm not buying the probe idea. Both the Old Republic and Empire had the resources to do it. And like you said, it sounds like the Emperor was doing it. Probably in an attempt to locate the aliens invading from outside the Galaxy.
    But when it comes to the EU, its just a writing tool. They were probably saving the unknown lands in case they wanted to expand the lore. Much like Star Trek did with the Gamma/Delta Quadrants. That also brings up the issue that, for a history that's suppose to span hundreds of thousands of years, you'd think they would invent a new type of faster than light travel system. Again, they can make cloaking devices, planet sized super lasers, giant walking cities....but Star Trek style warp drives or dark matter elude them? Yeah, not buying that either.

    I'm glad that I know another Star Wars fan who is very fascinated by the Unknown Regions. Star Trek already explored part of it's galaxy's own "Unknown Regions" (aka. the Delta Quadrant) in Voyager, but Star Wars has yet to really explore their uncharted parts of space. The new trilogy seems to be wanting to explore a bit of it though, since we know Starkiller Base (which may or may not be Ilum) was based in the Unknown Regions, and that the First Order has a presence there.

    • @onlypeaceindeath

      Actually, if we go by Attack of the Clones there is no such thing as the Unknown Regions in Star Wars unless we're talking deep extragalactic space. The conversation between Obi-Wan and the librarian in the movie made it quite clear that there are no unexplored parts in the local galactic cluster.

      @Presidente Enrique Peña Nieto You can't know it. But i think spaceships calculators are able to jump out of hyperspace if they detect some trashes on the way, like after a battle or a meteor. They can do it with a nebula, so why not ?
      And even if they can't, the odds that you jump right trough a passing asteroid are the same that you smash your car in a lost item on a highway.

      Woody Jones Objects in real space create a “Mass Shadow” object within hyperspace which a collision with would have the same effect of colliding with the real space object, but at many multiples the speed of light. This is why hyperspace jumps need to be calculated, you need a 100% clear route from point A to B else your dead.

    Historically towns are created when there is a massive sufficient and reliable food source is available or being maintained, that people can stay stationary in one place for a long time. Rivers(any large source of water), oasis, fertile plains for farms, and trade routes where food is exchange can create a town. It's food that influence their creation usually.

    Quite simply, the Unknown Regions (as of the Galactic Civil War) are considered too dangerous to be explored. Be it hostile species or dangerous phenomena like the star cluster from the Rebels episode "Legends of the Lasat", the risk is just too great.

      shaynethegmann I think it would depend entirely on Oryx's connection with the deep in the star wars universe. If he teamed up with his two sisters though, everyones fucksville. The only reason the entire galaxy of the destiny universe wasnt completely obliterated by the hive in the first place was because the 3 hive gods decided to declare war on each other instead for thousands upon thousands of years. The last time they teamed up they nearly destroyed the traveller and actually did kill all of the gods of the deep to prove a point.

    I've just finished playing Halo 2 and want to download Halo 3 but that matters little now, i noticed that Guilt Spark said:"The Halos are the last resort strategy against the Flood...", which means the Forerunner Could HOLD the Flood but couldn't defeat it, but they're giant brains and ego was hurt too badly for them to live, I mean the ALL MIGHTY FORERUNNER couldn't beat a bioweapon, doesn't matter how advanced but they were still unable to DEFEAT IT so they just commited mass suicide and said:"THE WHOLE DAMN GALAXY IS GOING WITH US!". So I think the Forerunner could contain the Flood from "flooding" the entire galaxy.

    • @nicholisling2657
      @nicholisling2657 6 лет назад +5

      emarko cizma No actually. The forerunners were losing badly. Their most advanced A.I had turned on them and there were originally 14 Halos. By time they fired them they only had 7 left. Besides, they reseeded the galaxy without bringing themselves back as they felt they had screwed up to much and left everything for humanity.

    • @ethanquirk28
      @ethanquirk28 6 лет назад +1

      emarko cizma you need to realise that the flood were created by a race which were basically to the forerunners as the forerunners are to humans with the purpose of avenging themselves after the forerunners betrayed them. The forerunners were completely fucked once mendicant bias was infected by the flood and took control of the entire forerunner fleet, hundreds of thousands of warships instantly turned against the forerunners and world after world being consumed by the flood with graveminds turning to key minds (think even more massive and intelligent versions of the gravemind that captures Arby and the Chief) on the ships they now controlled. The halos were a last line of defence because they knew it was only a matter of time before they lost. The point of the halos is to wipe out all organic matter yes, but in installation 00 there were supposed to be copies of all other races that would be repopulated after the halos fired so its not exactly a "if im going youre all coming with me" solution more than a "instead of the galaxy ending, lets just reset it" strategy. Theres all this stuff with the mantle of responsibility that explains their logic behind it.

      hand to hand? or ship combat. hand to hand the arbiter - sangeihli are way over 2m tall, blindingly fast, incredibly powerful, and trained and disciplined in the way of war from childhood. Ship to ship, likely thrawn, as sangheili were both soldiers and tacticians, and although good at both, not quit masters of ship to ship combat, the way thrawn has specialised. However covenant technology does surpass that of the empire, so who knows.

    In the tales of the Jedi comic, they had independent explorers looking for new hyperspace routes. The story I refer to involved dav and jori daragon (I think). They end up finding korriban and captured by the sith. In the Jedi path book, the Jedi had a corps of explorers looking for new places. You are right, it is dangerous work.

    Eck, I think a lot of people like the Unknown Regions because they're unknown, there are many mysteries in there. It both kind of represents our fears, our fear of not knowing what could be lying in wait out there, while also representing our want to explore, to make the unknown known, it's kinda clever if you think about it that way. (That, or I'm overthinking everything once again)
