We decided to record a fun bonus video! We hope everyone enjoyed! If we were to make more bonus videos, what would you guys want us to react to? Let us know! 🙌😁👍💛
Please do more than once a month, we need more. They are so many : Smell like Nirvana, Its all about the pentium, White and nerdy, Tacky, Foil, Party at the CIA, Trapped in the drive thru, The saga begins and his own songs : One more minute and You don't love me anymore.
@@fatherandsonreactions I know this isn't a Weird Al Yankovic suggestion instead it's a a few of suggestions for 80's "Freestyle" music. 1. "Show Me (The Nest Mix)" by the Covergirls. 2. "Point Of No Return" by Nu Shooz. 3. "Spring Love" by Stevie B. 4. "Sending All My Love" by Linear. These are probably some songs of the 1980's that you and your son may not have heard before.
Pet Rocks were just plain rocks in a cardboard box formed into a cage and a 'care and feeding' booklet. The pillows were aftermarket crap to put your pet rock on.
There are four main classes of Weird Al: 1. Parodies ("White & Nerdy". "Tacky", "Perform This Way", "Phony Calls", etc.) 2. Style Parodies, which mimic the style of an artist but is original ("Velvet Elvis", "First World Problems", "Germs", etc.) 3. Polka Medleys, which take a set of related songs and put them to a polka beat. These will have the word "Polka" in the title. 4. "Stream of Consciousness" songs, that start from a particular point and just wander from there ("Albuquerque", "Everything You Know is Wrong", "Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota", etc.) He's made several albums, so you have lots of material to choose from.
Weird Al does song parodies, song style parodies, polka medleys, and original songs that involve strange characters or concepts. They are generally all great. Choose any.
you are not old enough for the pet rock, it came out in 75, the "pillow" thing you are talking about is a knock off of the pet rock. It was a real ROCK that came in a box.
Something about pet rocks didn't sound right, so I just consulted computer. Computer says they were smooth stones from Mexico's Rosarito Beach and marketed in custom cardboard boxes with straw and breathing holes, just like live pets. The fad lasted six months until after Christmas 1975. If Larry had one made out of a soft cushion, I assume it was because he was five years old and couldn't be trusted to look after a real rock like a more grown up kid?
More than half of Al's 14 studio albums are his original songs. Al recently released an original song that's perfect during this pandemic, Germs. I'd love to see you react to it, it's an amazing live performance.
The official "PET ROCK" was a REAL rock. I had one, and also had a leash to walk it (It was a rigid wire contraption with a coiled bottom to hold the rock in). No, I didn't buy that crap myself myself...it was a gift from my Grandma when she was tossing it out!!! 💃
Good song indeed About pet rocks Pet Rocks are smooth stones from Mexico's Rosarito Beach. They were marketed like live pets, in custom cardboard boxes, complete with straw and breathing holes. ... Although by February 1976 they were discounted due to lower sales, Dahl sold over 1 million Pet Rocks for $4 each, and became a millionaire.
Weird Al is one of the reasons that parody is such a big genre in and of itself on TV, radio, etc. I believe (I could be wrong) that he got sued over a song where the artist was either pissed that he did it, or they sued him for slander or something equally stupid because they took themselves too seriously. The ruling of the courts went in Al's favor and helped protect him and others from future law suits because they deemed parodies to not be something an artist could sue over. The biggest issue I know of that he ever had was when he did "Amish Paradise", a parody of Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise". He told his management team to reach out to Coolio and make sure they got the ok from him. They didn't, just expecting that he would be fine with it, and he wasn't at all! I think he still has some animosity to Weird Al, even though Al apologized multiple times to him for the mistake. Ever since then, Weird Al has made it a point to personally contact the artist and request permission from them to make a song. For the record, I don't believe it was that song for the case I mentioned before, but it may have been. Someone else could probably correct me. Artists now consider themselves to have "made it" in the music industry if Al parodies one of their songs, that's how important and influential he has become in music. Another great anecdote is that when Kurt Cobain's diaries were published, there was one page where in the margins Cobain wrote "Al Yankovic" is a genius!", and that is something Al has appreciated forever.
I am not an attorney or have any connections to the legal profession but in my opinion when doing parodies of other artists it might be prudent to have an expert draw up a legal contract to do a parody of that artist’s song. A separate contract would have to be made for each song he wanted to make a parody of and should include a copy of the words of the parody itself. The original artist after reviewing the contract with their legal counsel would need to sign the contract giving permission to make a parody of their original song using the words that were included in the contract for the parody song.
@@krazycatz In point of fact, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled multiple times that parodies are not subject to legal action. Anyone can take a song and redo the words to it as a joke without any fear of a lawsuit. Weird Al doesn't have to get anyone's permission to do what he does, but he is a good dude who wanted to do the right thing every time he made a song. The one time he trusted his studio, they lied to him, so now he will not do the parody unless/until he speaks DIRECTLY with the artist he is parodying. Again, the artists 99.99999% of the time know who he is and what his mark on the music industry and comedy have been for 40+ years, so a VAST majority of them are more than willing to let him do it because 1) it means they have "made it", 2) it puts their music out there for people who may not normally listen to it and possibly builds their fan base, which in turn leads to 3) more money.
I agree with you that even though he does not need to get written permission from the original artist to do a parody of their song he usually asks them first out of respect for them. Not to long ago I saw an interview he did where he said he had always wanted to do a parody of Prince song but will not because Prince never gave him permission. Even though he could have legal made a parody he did not out of respect for the original artist.
BTW -- your dad is mis-remembering the Pet Rock. It was even *more* stupid than he remembers -- it wasn't a squishy toy pillow shaped like a rock, it was *literally* a small rock! It was a small, smooth stone that came packaged in a miniature cardboard "pet carrier" box, complete with a bit of straw for a "bed" and air holes in the box.
I've already posted this and Ethan is probably checking back with Dad as we speak. I speculated that as Larry would only have been about five years old, he was probably deemed to be too young to be given the responsibility of looking after a real rock, and everything entailed in caring for these poor defenceless igneous invertebrates, so his parents must have come up with a soft toy alternative that can't come to any real harm. You know what kids are like at Christmas, when they see the latest 'must have' toy and parents come under such incredible pressure to come up with the goods!
Try "Tacky" (parody of "Happy" by Pharrell Williams), "Foil" ("Royals" by Lorde), "Handy" ("Fancy" by Iggy Azalea), "Another One Rides the Bus" ("Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen.
This is a great reaction. Love me some Weird Al. Hardware Store is another fantastic one. Really worth watching. If you're looking for something else that's funny/interesting to watch you might wanna check out "History of the entire world I guess". Not a song but well worth watching if you haven't seen it.
That's the genius of Weird Al! He has been whipping them parodies out for decades. Great reaction...check out "Amish Paradise", the song and video are fantastic! Have a great one!
My favorite from Weird Al is.. can't decide.. maybe "Trapped In The Drive Through".. or "Eat It"?.. or "Trash Day" ...or "Cavity Search".. No, "Can't Watch This". Or "Ode To A Superhero"..Ok, I give up
Everything on Pet Rocks I'm finding is literal rocks from Mexico that were packaged and marketed as, "the perfect pet," with silly, "care," instructions. What is this pillow, rock-look-alike that you're talking about?
Most of the best songs by Weird Al are already mentioned. But I really like The Complicated Song. A parody of Avril Lavigne song Complicated. Also, if you haven't already, please would you be so kind as to react to the song Seagulls (Stop It Now) by Bad Lip Reading. Also, the Redneck Avengers (Taladega Nights), also by Bad Lip Reading. there is group following in the parody music thing; they got a parody of the same song from the backstreet boys. of course weird al is the parody god. but these guys "the merkins"" are funny as well.
Weird Al is brilliant! His parodies are hilarious and very well done. I'm not a huge fan of comedy in my music, but Al does it so well that I just gotta laugh. No all of Weird Al's songs are parodies. He has some pastiche songs like "Dare to be Stupid" and originals like Hardware Store, but they're all hilarious.
@@Mystik671 Sure, but they're also some of his best stuff. Skipper Dan and Hardware Store in particular. Also "The Night Santa Went Crazy", which would be a good thematic pick for the Christmas season.
@@Mystik671 If you define his pastiches as parodies, that's true. But they are original compositions and all his albums are about half direct parodies and half originals. He has videos of many of those too, like Dare to be Stupid, You Don't Love Me Anymore, One More Minute, Virus Alert, First World Problems, CNR.
Weird Al is a genius, no doubt about it. So awesome stuff for so long it's incredible. One of my favorite ones is a Madonna cover named "Like a Surgeon". White And Nerdy is fantastic but you need to be able to catch the references. The Saga Begins is fantastic as well. He basically put together the whole plot of The Phantom Menace from rumors and then sang it to American Pie, which is not exactly an easy song to sing. But he aced it. And he does an effing mean Zack De La Rocha imitation on I'll Sue Ya. Absolutely on fire - but to fully appreciate it you'd have to do one or two Rage Against The Machine songs first.
Lol, only Wierd Al, you never know just how he will mess up a song, yet make it sound cool. Cool to be wierd if you will. Glad you enjoyed it and had fun! As always, much love&respect🤘❤🧡🤘

No no no, the pet rock was a real rock. It was in a cardboard package with some straw in it making a nest. The funny thing was people were paying for a rock you could just go out and pick up. It was the owners instructions that came with it that made it so funny.
It was always a shame that so many people were willing to spend money for a pet rock when there were so many rocks in shelters waiting to be adopted by someone who would give them the love and care that they needed. Sadly many of those poor rocks in the shelters ended up being abused or destroyed. 😢😢😢🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Absolutely agree with Christmas at Ground Zero and the Night Santa Went Crazy
Christmas @ ground zero 👍🏼👍🏼
We couldn't afford a pet rock when I was little, we had to find a wild one in nature and train it

Exactly. This father was so poor his parents got him a pillow and told him it was a pet rock.

No no no, the pet rock was a real rock. It was in a cardboard package with some straw in it making a nest. The funny thing was people were paying for a rock you could just go out and pick up. It was the owners instructions that came with it that made it so funny.
Wow haha that’s hilarious! -S

dude the guy put actual rocks in the box and people with more money than brains bought them.
It was always a shame that so many people were willing to spend money for a pet rock when there were so many rocks in shelters waiting to be adopted by someone who would give them the love and care that they needed. Sadly many of those poor rocks in the shelters ended up being abused or destroyed. 😢😢😢🤣😂🤣😂🤣
