amen to Ed when he calls out how the the avengers were square (around minute 54). I loved the X-men as a kid and this is the best X-men comic I have seen in 30 years.
Congratulations on the nomination Ed, it is well-deserved. Your indie/alt aesthetic juxtaposed with these more 'traditional' comic images is incredibly effective. Just finished watching the kayfabe mailbag episode, and it was no surprise to me how many people watch you guys while they create--me too. It's because both Jim's and your passion practically breaks through the screen. This is inspiring work my brother.
I absolutely loved this "walk thro" and behind the curtain look at how you did this Ed - we definitely need more of these from you, Jim and Tom, maybe even some other cartoonists you able to grab
Thank you so much for guiding us through your thought processes and references. Great to see creators give it up about their works. And as you said about Grand Design "it really is a love letter" - thank you for keeping the classic Claremont saga alive and also breathing new life into it. I would love to get these editions for all my friends that never did the whole journey like i did, I'm sure they would be floored. Can't wait for the third chapter. (Also mega excited about Hickman run, hoping that marvel gives our fave muties some TLC). Anyway, yeah thanks, this is awesome. keep on keepin on
This was amazing to watch. It was super interesting to hear about all of the swipes and references going on. Also, Ed is absolutely right, Avengers were totally the square team. Best quote, "Why be in the Navy when you can be a pirate?"
34:15 that Generation X underground special is absolutely what got me into indie comics. I remember finding it at a local comic mart and pulling it out of a back issue bin and seeing Mahfood's style and the whole production with the cardboard cover with the striking blue and yellow colour and it just broke my mind. It was such a rush, I knew exactly then that was the type of comic what I wanted to make. I would love to see you guys do a deep dive on that issue.
i love your channel...keep it up....i was not much into comics...but you guys are such a great resource for learning..that you have sparked my interest in comic art and history
Always found it funny that when I started reading in the 90s that, in universe the avengers were the a list team and the xmen were the runts. Avengers are quite dorky. Love the analogy that the avengers are the Jocks and the xmen were the grungy stoners under the bleechers
Amazing commentary and it looks like a stunning work - i can tell it was a labor of love and it is wholly worthy of an Eisner award - have you heard or gotten any responses to the issue at all from Claremont? It is amazing how you can pack so much from so many issues throughout the run into one book - a magnum opus for sure.
I recently bought some tan paper to draw on, and this video made me consider scanning the paper for its texture before using it. Now scanning all the A3 sheets, both sides, on 1200dpi :')
You guys are both awesome, and this is--hands down--the best channel about comics on RUclips.

RIP Ed. We’re still here man. Big hug to you Jim.
LOVED this guys. Please do one for every issue of Grand Design! Congrats on the nomination, Ed!

Quote swiped from the great Steve Jobs :)
This is SUCH a good idea! This is incredible! Thanks so much!
You're such an amazing cartoonist, Ed! Such an inspiration!
Great video. Would love one of these for the first two issues of Grand Design, and the following issues too!
Aw man, I’ve read the 1st Grand Design. Gotta pick this one out. Congratulations, Ed!

Ed Piskor is THE Mix Master of the cartooning world!
Thanks for doing this. Super insightful, as to the process. Congrats on the nomination. Well earned.

This is so fricken rad. Ed's got some galaxy brain ideas on comics and I love how seriously he takes them. None of that irony shit.
You got it right man... It is the Night Raven's drone. I knew it the second I saw it in the comic. :) Huge fan of these books. AMAZING work.
Can't wait to have all three in Treasury Editions when the final comes out. I'll put 'em right next to my Dark Phoenix Omnibus.
This episode was a blast 🤘
Is there going to be a Piskor X-Men omnibus/complete collection?
Well, this will hit the hot lists the next week or so
Eds gonna win it. No competition. ❤
"Why be in the Navy, when you can be a pirate!"
Fuckin' right!
Fuck yea!! This video was so great!! Had to grab my issue and read along with you guys.
Yea ed...i hope u win man...hip hop family tree taught me who u were and i love that title and will continue to but this title is so dam good...💯✔♨️
That Xavier sweat on page 34 tho. Fucking dope.
BRUH YOU KILLED THAT
Hey Ed idea for a future project - Street Fighter: Grand Design.
Did he make one of these for any of the other Grand Design books?
That white effect , those colors. The whole vibe. Get this man a god damn Eisner, and quick!
I need to get this comic

Knee in the back while you yank the arms. Surfboard stretch

i think that hold that Logan is trapped in, is just a double arm stretch. probably wrong and there some other name for it, ha
Cobra Raven...21:45
This rules.
Wtf! I'm a massive maron fan. These haven't been done for the other books in this series yet?
Ed, it's hard to find the Marvel Treasury Edition of Second Genesis. Where may I find one? Great job, Ed!!!
Looks like it's available on Amazon. Hate to send you there, but if your local shops aren't carrying it, they're a viable alternative.
Really? I was able to pick up the Marvel Treasury Editions of volume 1 and 2 at my local Barnes and Nobles, no problem
