Recently started playing ds2 for the first time due to a recommendation from chat, and I can safely say it's actually pretty fun.
However.. THE FUCKING RUIN SENTINELS.

Every souls game is fun. No souls fan would say that a souls game is bad, ds2 is just always compared to ds1 and ds3.

dark souls 2 will always have a place in my heart
As someone who is also playing this game for the first time and is almost done with it, it’s not as horrible as everyone likes to say. It definitely has its bullshit moments, but overall it’s an enjoyable game that deserves to be recognized
The only problem I have with ds2 now is how slow it is compared to ds3 and Elden ring
Yeah it is very slow, even DS1 feels faster. Definitely the slowest one. Great game though.@@jordenfrost2329
Pretty sure people kept shitting on DS2 simply because it was different from DS1. Which is exactly why DS3 ended up much closer to DS1 than it really needed to.
But yeah, DS2 is quite fun. Although, I think the way they made the core game so much harder in Scholar of the First Sin was uncalled for.

@jordenfrost2329 The devs actually said in an interview that people seemed to like DS1 slower combat (for its era) and so they planned to slow it down even more. Well they've made it faster each game after so... 🤷

I played DS 2 when it came out so back in the day graphics and gameplay wise it was a real joy but probably couldn’t go back now after sekiro ds 3 and elden ring.

Dark souls 2 is a parallel universe to the rest of the series. On top of that probably the longest of them too. With a whopping 3 rather large DLC's. Also carry as many lifegems as possible😂

Ds2 vanilla is a pretty solid entry, albeit with a lot of boring bosses overall. Not terrible but baring the souls name makes it feel like the least of the three

The whole “ladder fall takes all but a sliver of your health. Then the next board you step on breaks” is the culmination of everyone problems with Dark Souls 2. The game unfairly kills you just to say it did 😂

The overwhelming mobs in this game (regular enemies and invaders) are a bunch of bs. It’s especially hard when you’re playing the game as a sorcerer and you only have so many spells, which makes you play a lot more methodically in general. This is definitely at the bottom of my list for game of choice, with DS3, demon souls, and Bloodbourne still waiting to be played.
Ds2 is... okay, its a soulsborne so its obviously gonna be to a good standard, but alot of the game is bullshit, as someone going through the games for the first time ds1 felt so rememberable and iconic but half the areas in this game just arent rememberable, the iron keep in particular was absolute bull when i played it. Just massing enemies in small spaces isnt good game design

Dark Souls 2 really messed up the online system. Seriously, it's impossible to play with your friends. That and adaptability should never have been a stat. Other than that, I like it
Dark souls 2 is unforgettable, all other souls games have felt easy since.
I always feel sad about ds2. It really has some of the best ideas among any soulsbourne. But what holds ds2 back is not the engine or anything. It's just it's bad game mechanics and bosses. There is a handful of great bosses in this game but there's a quantity over quality thing with them. This game actually needs a remake more than bloodbourne
