    Another peach. Smashing pattern Davie, hopefully this weather will ease up a bit soon so we can all get out. Tied a few of those stretch rib buzzers from your previous video. Absolutely fantastic looking, can’t wait to give them a go. Enjoy your weekend pal

    Very nice tying again. I enjoy watching your video and have learnt a lot for my own tying. Many thanks! What's the intention of the foam head on the Balloon Caddis. Does the balloon imitate a specific feature?

    • @handcannon1388
      @handcannon1388 6 лет назад

      I've never tied them, but I believe that the "balloon" allows the fly to float low in moving water without sinking. The high-contrast color would also make the fly easier to track on the water's surface in those situations. If you were fishing stillwaters predominantly; where the fly tracks straight behind the fly line and subtle strikes are easier to see, you could tone down the color of the foam to better match the rest of the fly (if you wanted to).

    I did enjoy it, Davie. Thank you.
    I've been trying to catch up from a time away from watching the ties. I noticed you aren't using the Tiemco scissors. Would you say what scissors you have now, please?

      Hi Mike,
      I took a chance and bought a pair of razor scissors off eBay and they are very good as you can see, I have attached a link to the seller I bough them from......I'm glad you liked the fly..

      Hi Richard,
      I have fished the original Balloon Caddis that Roman Moser tyed and caught well both on the river and lochs, I do tye it for a few friends and the chocolate version is for one of them..It's certainly worth having a few in your box in natural, cinnamon and brown..
      All the very best Davie..

    Hi davie. Great tying as always. Can i ask what type of foam you use for the balloon caddis, is it polycelon or just normal closed cell foam ? .
    Thanks.

      Hi Eddy,
      For these flies I like to use Veniards Plasterzote foam which I cut to size, I have attached a link to it for you to see..I'm glad you like the fly..

      Thanks a lot Davie, not just for all the patterns you share but for the time you take to reply to comments and share links to products. Can i also ask why there is no price on the link you have added. Is it for retail customers ? Once again thanks for all your time...

      Hi WeeManSham,
      I fish it on it's own but I have friends that fish in Ireland and they are happy to fish it with other flies...

    Could I use this fly if boobies and fabs are disallowed?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 лет назад

      Hi Robert,
      If there's rules against flies with foam on them then you would have to ask first before you use them just incase..
      All the very best Davie..

      Here in the US, some waters are restricted to "flies only", some maybe to barbless hooks (to improve survival of released fish), and some by hook size and/or number of hooks per line (to discourage snagging), but why discriminate against using flies suspended above the bottom?
