I think is imposible to separete the twi of them. Think about the voice. Think about when he us finishing and the guitar like in Underworld. Underrated
In the 90s, there were so many classic songs written by British bands. We didn’t know how lucky we were. Only 20 years later do we realise that we lived through a golden age in British music. I’ll always be a child of the 90s ✌🏼
I’m almost 43 and from the States, loved 90’s British music during those days, and ever since it seems there is another song/album/band that comes my way. It makes me feel like the 90’s are still going on somewhere…
I lost my dad a month ago and i kept listening to him singing this song every single day as to remind me there’s someone out there experienced the same situation as mine and feel me...
the guitar work in Urban Hymns is so freaking underrated. Love this lead guitar player's creativity and taste and of course Richard'd songwriting. There are some beautifully psychedelic moments on that album.
He always be with you... close your eyes.. he is there .. what we call death it’s just the beginning of the real happiness you are part of the everything... and the everything it’s you
Wildhat8 This is a beautiful song, and the fact that it describes people's situation and helps them through it, shows what great song writing it is. I am so sorry for your loss. Make sure you and your children are alright.
One of my most-played tracks from the 90s. Must be their best performance of this classic. Richard's vocals are perfect, matched perfectly with Nick's haunting guitar sounds. Glad someone captured it and shared with us.
This truly is a beautiful song, after my own personal battle with drug's when I was younger this song will always remain not in my head but my heart.woh lord!!!!!
Tony Sproule ...most people think the song is about takin drugs...but ur right..he's singing to his dad...his dad had an illness & was taking all sorts of medication..hence..'the drugs dont work'..he died anyway 😢 sad
Yes it sure is. I think it’s the only album that I could play every song on guitar. In fact, Sonnet was the first song I learned, the first 4 chords I learned. I played c,em,am, fMaj7 over and over until could “roughly” make it sound like the song…I was so excited too! I’m sure it was absolute rubbish though, but still, I was on my way! 😬
On the same day, March 1st, hours apart, my brother and best friend left this world. This song makes me tear up and miss them. Yet, smile and feel love in my heart because it's such an amazing and well written beautiful song that expresses how I feel over losing them. 💖 Thank you, Mr. Ashcroft 🙏🏼💖
One of the few current British artists still around who you can put up there with the very very best...McCabe and Ashcroft are genius musicians...if this don’t touch your soul deep then you are not living!!!
All this talk of getting old It's getting me down, my love Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown This time I'm coming down And I hope you're thinking of me As you lay down on your side Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse but I know I'll see your face again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again But I know I'm on a losing streak As I pass down by your street And if you wanna show, then just let me know And I'll sing in your ear again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again 'Cause baby, oh If heaven falls, I'm coming too Just like you said You leave my life, I'm better off dead All this talk of getting old It's getting me down, my Lord Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown This time I'm coming down Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse but I know I'll see your face again 'Cause baby, oh If heaven falls, I'm coming too Just like you said You leave my life, I'm better off dead But if you wanna show Then just let me know and I'll sing in your ear again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse but I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again, oh, Lord Yeah, I know I'll see your face again, oh, Lord I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more, no more Sumber: Musixmatch
So tired of feeling it, I don't even want to talk about it at this point. You can only say the same thing for so many years, decades, before it becomes meaningless. I do urge others to seek out help if they ever need it; I cope the best way I can, through the methods I have learned, and the drugs do sometimes work... A good cry is not always a bad thing, however. This song makes me think of my mother, who died of cancer. THAT I can talk about. Her drugs made things worse. Your words are kind, and I wish you well.
c willi - hang in there girl! I too, lost my mother to cancer. It's been 4 years and I'm just now coming out of the funk. I hope you can get this relief also!
I haven't been really depressed a while... It is coming back and it so hard not having someone to talk to. Some shoulder to cry. Someone who understands even a tiny bit of all the mes.....
Can't help but think of my father when I hear this song. I know Rich wrote this about his father who was sick with cancer from what I remember. He was prescribed these medications that were just making him worse, effectively killing him quicker than the cancer would have. "The drugs don't work...they just make you worse." My grandmother went through the same issue when she got diagnosed with stage four. Too little, too late. The chemo sped up her demise. We would have maybe had her with us for another entire year if she opted not to do that. But that was her decision and I respected it. When I think of my father and how he handled her death, I think of the drugs and the alcohol that he always indulged in can never quite seem to take away all of that pain and anger at an unfortunate situation and an inevitable reality. As much as we've always been at ends and he has failed as a parent, I still love him because he wasn't always that way, and I see as much good in him as just about anybody else. Change starts with a series of choices and the right environment to begin in. Thanks for reading. Peace to all of you and your loved ones. Live forever!
A big hug to those who listen to this
SAME x
All hail the victorious dead
Hugging you back
Back atcha....😍
same here x
The unsung hero of this song has always been Nick McCabe's harrowing guitar wails that plummet the tone of the track to utter, abject despair.
But he is not alone , remember
I think is imposible to separete the twi of them. Think about the voice. Think about when he us finishing and the guitar like in Underworld. Underrated

Yes brother ✌🏻🏴
We'll always be.

This version makes me cry more than previous ones. I really need this some days. ❤️
The guitarist is so good, damn it.. for me, it takes the song to another level..
yeah it does not sure why other people on the comments think it ruins the song ....mcgabes guitar playing takes the song to another level
was trying to find other people thinking it ruins it like me. His improvisation seems over the place and messy. Not coherent imo
@@TanguyBlanchardthe volume of the guitar should have been lower than the singer's voice thats what ruined the song ,thats what i think
@@RqiN1 that is a problem as well, but I got more info and it seems the two had a rivalry, he may have been doing this on purpose
@@TanguyBlanchard Well yeah, it makes more sense .
What a flawlessly gorgeous vocal performance. Hugely underrated front man.
I lost my dad a month ago and i kept listening to him singing this song every single day as to remind me there’s someone out there experienced the same situation as mine and feel me...
Months ago I lost my grandfather, and he was like my father... this song hurts.

Be strong and still in love and goodness, dear
I lost my wife last year due to ilness, this is one of the songs that helped me cope with it all.
Thats a lie,all i see is her face again.. Such a beutiful woman she was. But i have two beutiful kids who are now grown up.
Wildhat8 You have not lost her my friend. She is still with you but in another form, the form that we was before we were human.
Always believed in that and thankyou.
Sorry man..
Wildhat8 This is a beautiful song, and the fact that it describes people's situation and helps them through it, shows what great song writing it is. I am so sorry for your loss. Make sure you and your children are alright.
“If Heaven calls, I’m coming too” 😭😭😭
One of the best written songs ever
Just watched him live! Absolutely class did this one along with the other verve classics 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I just love to watch him play lead guitar ... He's special.
One of my most-played tracks from the 90s. Must be their best performance of this classic. Richard's vocals are perfect, matched perfectly with Nick's haunting guitar sounds. Glad someone captured it and shared with us.
Never heard this version before and I absolutely loved it... I miss songs from the 90s.😍
What a performance - two masters on top of their game.
Perfect song, I cry with this song, I love The Verve. Greetings from Brazil.
One of the first albums, that just grew on me, and I loved it. I loved 5 songs s muc, including this song, it's a great album.
Great, great performance here. Amazing vocals from Ashcroft and McCabe adds a lot of "pressure" into it, love it.
I’ve never heard a voice like he’s it’s pure heaven no one in my opinion has his talent no one on this earth ❤️
Purest voice ever and also one of the best songwriters ever , one in a million man
This truly is a beautiful song, after my own personal battle with drug's when I was younger this song will always remain not in my head but my heart.woh lord!!!!!
Dedicated to his father, what an amazing tribute!!!
Tony Sproule ...most people think the song is about takin drugs...but ur right..he's singing to his dad...his dad had an illness & was taking all sorts of medication..hence..'the drugs dont work'..he died anyway 😢 sad
Yep. All about his dad who was ill and died. Adds a different perspective to the song when you know what its about.
Pretty sure it was for his wife's dad who was ill. His dad died suddenly when he was 10-11. brain haemorrhage
this is just the most beautiful song ever...well up there with the best of em!!!
Love this song
cheekychick2004 .must be in top 15 best song and number 1 when wrecked

NoJodie Findaly same here , such a sad subject but Ashcroft always pulls it off like a true professional ✌
This is a song I love playing at open mic. Simply epic. In my opinion still the best voice currently in British music
Urban Mymns was a fantastic album. An album you could enjoy start to finish. One of my all time favorites
One of the best albums of all time, a journey from start to finish. pure art.

WOW! That was PERFECTION!!!!
Gorgeous eyes !
Always wears shades
He is a genius !
Just so beautiful yet achingly sullen. The verve were so good at bleeding emotions.
love their sound run deep in the soul through the earth
Come back to this from time to time. Touching song. Thinking of you and Grandma Dad.
Muy sentida es esta canción, mucha música y melancolía. Muy hermosa.
I love Richard Ashcroft since ever. His songs make me floating around in another galaxy…

Essa banda canta com a alma.
Staggeringly beautiful. I can’t think of any musical performance like this. The sound of two supernova stars dancing in orbit with each other
Ya, I understand completly. Thank god a good artist let's some of us know how deep it really goes. Someone seems to completely understand.

Electric guitar does a great job on this song
This version is divine!
To be British and to have been in my late teens / early 20s and at university in the 90s... is like winning the lottery twice.
His voice was angelic. And Nick's guitar, it's awesome.
Мне нравится что он поет полностью для себя. В полной автономности.
завораживает
What an amazing and emotional performance.
Beautifull!! Thanks richard your music is inspiration.. come back to argentina pleaseeeeeee!!

All this talk of getting old
It's getting me down, my love
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown
This time I'm coming down
And I hope you're thinking of me
As you lay down on your side
Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse but I know I'll see your face again
Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again
But I know I'm on a losing streak
As I pass down by your street
And if you wanna show, then just let me know
And I'll sing in your ear again
Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again
'Cause baby, oh
If heaven falls, I'm coming too
Just like you said
You leave my life, I'm better off dead
All this talk of getting old
It's getting me down, my Lord
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown
This time I'm coming down
Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse but I know I'll see your face again
'Cause baby, oh
If heaven falls, I'm coming too
Just like you said
You leave my life, I'm better off dead
But if you wanna show
Then just let me know and I'll sing in your ear again
Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse but I know I'll see your face again
Yeah, I know I'll see your face again
Yeah, I know I'll see your face again
Yeah, I know I'll see your face again, oh, Lord
Yeah, I know I'll see your face again, oh, Lord
I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more, no more

One of the greatest lyrical songs ever written.
Yeah, the Verve ! This is real music now. . .the emotion feeling and soul in it .. .
McCabe crossing dimensions... He makes this song soooo much more special. Their chemistry is also amazing of course!
This song always makes me sad and happy at the same time.

when the depression starts and you have no one to talk to...
There is always someone willing to listen
