I was late to the livestream but I really enjoyed the awards. Thanks for all the work you put into it, and into the year. I genuinely cheered out loud at the "best musicianship" award winner because I wasn't expecting it. They could win every year as far as I'm concerned. On the other hand I predicted your pick for best fight, best bridge, pride of Japan and (after you dropped the hint that some people might complain) best song/video combo. No complaints from me about any of them - if anything I might have gone with a different song (their most recent MV) by the same band for best bridge. Btw I think I might pick Kurage by Charm, which I found because it was one of your small band recommendations, for best chorus. And I'd also invent a new award just so I could give it to tone spoon.

I agree on Tone Spoon and Charm being amazing this year, and I am trying to manage a good system for adddressing these bands in future, but I keep them out of the awards usually to avoid favouritism regarding smaller aspiring bands. I don't like to play judge with them, but I am trying to think of a nice way to include them 😊

It's a good thing that there is so much to discover in Japanese music, but one can't hope to cover it all. - Good job, well done. - I know you've had a lot on your plate this last few weeks, however it looked well polished even if you had to spin through it at breakneck speed. - Nice-1.
I would have given the award for best fight choreography in a music video to Momoiro Clover Z for "Mononofu Nippon", singing while you dance and kill samurai is a merit. someone else?
I would have thought Lovebites would have been the hiatus since this March they had the 1st live show since 2021 and 1st with their new bassist Fami who replaces founder & bassist Miho.
Good point. To the best of my knowledge, I don't think it was a hiatus officially, just a pause in touring🤔. I believe the band continued practicing and writing during the time, although I may be wrong. I admit that the audition that gave us Fami was an awesome highlight too 😃🤘
Thanks again ! For this amazing un-bias award show, from the most interesting music industry in the world. 2023 was an insane year for sure. Especially best presenter award was very much deserved. Babymetal winning the WTF award is actually very much on-brand, as that was an how they 1:10:40 agree, that's of the things good metal and good Japanese bands shine. Always look forward to this. It’s really been a great year for nearly all of my favorites from Japan but no doubt Babymetal have re-established themselves as the real queens of the scene. What a year! And seeing them live finally was a personal highlight. The Asterism and Band-Maid and Gacharic Spin awards were well deserved. Thanks for your enthusiasm it’s always appreciated! And go Trident and Nemophila in 2024.. Also, I see where you’ve done Perfume reviews in the past. I love them, and think Plasma is a really strong album.

They seemed genuinely thrilled and appreciative that they have fans in the U.S. I wish someone could coordinate some sort of Japanese band package tour, Trident would be great with so many other bands.
