I wouldn't exactly say that. I mean while she was with Stefan it did seem like she tried to be like him, or at least as "good" and as "pure" as him. When she was with Stefan she became a goody two shoes who felt morally superior to everyone else. She couldn't and would not see that everything wasn't as black and white as she thought, because that's the way Stefan seemed. Before her and Stefan got together Elena told Stefan she was trying to get back to her old self. And her old self was a little rebellious and carefree, and she wanted a life that had passion, adventure and danger. She even proved that when she met Damon for the very first time on the road. She told him she got into a fight with Matt because he had their future all planned out. And she just didn't want that kind of boring, routine, all mapped out life. When she got with Stefan, she tried to be her old self, but ended up adapting to Stefan's goody two shoes personality where everything had to be all good. That there had to be little to no room for the wild, dangerous, unknown kinda life, because that's just not who Stefan was or where he lived. Stefan tried so hard to fight the dangerous and unknown. She never had the chance to explore the unknown with him because he was all about making the safe and sensible choices. With Damon, she was able to find herself in her own way. She was able to see the other side and decided for herself whether or not she could handle it. She became more open, more free, less judging, and even let herself accept the darkest parts of her, which everyone has, but its something Stefan could never do because of his complete and total fear of it. Elena became stronger and less reliant on people saving her all the time. She found herself with Damon. Stefan just sheltered her from being her true self.
I watched this show from the beggining to end but l still can not understand why everyone is so willingly to save elena all the time. why does everyone sacrifice everything that they have for her? she is just a normal girl .she does not have Powers or special aim to help or save the day so why does everyone act like she is a Saint. I can understand that people want to save their friends but literally everyone in this Show just work for elena. That is just annoying.
I'm gonna start by saying every relationship in this show is toxic. I love this scene, and consider it one of Damon's best. They're communicating as they always have, both acknowledging the current issues in their relationship. Damon wants Elena to stop defending him because he wants the blame. Completely opposite when she was sired. "You know what I haven't gotten? Blame, guilt." Damon doesn't want Elena to be like him, to be the bad guy, and he certainly doesn't want her sacrificing those good qualities he fell in love with. He wants her to expect more because she deserves more. Again, completely opposite 3x19. "And I don't want to have to live up to anyone's expectations." This scene encompasses that episode in a big and very important way. He can't have Elena enabling him by defending him and basically settling for less. The moment she stops pushing is the moment she accepts things as they are, which will ultimately destroy their relationship. Damon's change is a series-long journey because, unlike Stefan, he fully embraced his vampirism. While this requires patience and understanding on Elena's part, it doesn't require she defend him when it's not fitting. Damon's issue in this scene is his complete lack of faith in himself, and the fact that he knows he's plateaued. He truly doesn't believe he can change. While he is terrified of changing Elena too much, and she's proving her change by defending him, he's self-sabotaging. I wish Elena heard the words he gave to Katherine when he tried to patch things up in 5x12, but this is a necessary move for Damon... for reasons that help him. Sometimes you need to take 2 steps back to take 10 steps forward.

I honestly credit their relationship in real life even after the break-up to create such intensity in scenes like this... because WOW! They are amazing at what they do. Kudos to Ian and Nina!

guys,Elena didn't choose to be annoying and always crying.She lost so many people in her lives and the only person she has left as family is Jeremy. I mean if I were her,I'd be crying all the time.Who wouldn't?A girl who lost almost her entire family,her aunt(turned into a vampire and sacrificed),her father(died in car crash),her mother(died in car crash),her real father,her real mother (killed herself right in front of Elena). she got her dead best friend back and brother back but it doesn't remove the scars that their deaths have created. who wouldn't be as annoying and whiny and always crying like Elena? everybody who lost their family would end up like this.Imagine her whole perfect life destroyed. every human beings are the same. Elena has stood strong and hasn't killed herself,unlike us. if we lose somebody we love,we would have just gave up living and lived the rest of your life like a zombie. so stop judging Elena. everybody has their own opinions but I am sick of everybody judging Elena when she has lost so much. I lost one of my aunts in a car crash too but I didn't know her well cuz i was still a baby.if I did,and I loved her the most,i would have lived the rest of my life as a zombie.Heck,I'd be annoying as hell,even whiny,and always crying.But my life ain't as messed up as hers.So stop,y'all

You know, I always loved Elena. I didn't even know people didn't like her until I started reading comments on social media, but regardless I still love her. I even felt like it got a little bit dull after Nina left and Elena wasn't there for the rest of the episodes, but it was fine I guess. I completely understand her character, and I absolutely love it :-)
She lost ALMOST her entire family. Caroline lost ALL her family, so did Bonnie, Matt, Tyler and a few others, but unlike Elena they picked themselves up and moved the fuck along Elena chose to be a whiny ass bitch-baby

All of this was bs. Season 5 was just testing the waters to see if Stelena could resurface, but Delena was *loud* and strong, there was no going back. And if it was going to take 12 seasons for Stefan and Elena to get back together, it's better it ended how it ended. Damon and Elena grew so much toward the end of season 6, it's a pity we didn't get to see all the perks of their relationship.

So Delena broke up and Katherine died. In the same episode. I didn't cry at 5x10, becouse I was just angry. I know that Elena, Damon, Stefan and Katherine are the main characters, but i just don't agree with everything being about them. I miss the time, when everyone was in the picture..
this scene perfectly sums up everything I always felt about delena.. the constant need for elena to rationalize or excuse whatever damon does is annoying. damon is transparent, he is who he is periodd. & I love that for his character

Cassidy Huynh Stelena had some of the most cheesiest breakups on TVD their last breakup had everything to do with DAMON not each other which is just sad. Delena's break up felt authentic and it had nothing to do with Elena not being in love with Damon anymore or vice versa it had everything to do with Damon, his insecurities and Elena reassuring him which was in fact believable. "Stelena forever" sorry but your ship died in s2 and had no sign of coming back going forward....I don't see why ya'll are here anyway go and re watch seasons 1 and 2 if you want to see some forced cheese fest that no one but the minority seems to give a shit about.
"Because i chose you and i Stand behind my choice". One of the most toxic lines. After she admitted what he did and wants to do is deeply against her beliefs. Her morality and beliefs made her who she is. And the reason? "Because i love you". You love people for reasons, not for a fact they exist. Their relationship is so badly written in season 5. How they broke Elena's character Is disgusting. She supposed to be a role model, but this looks like Stockholm syndrome. Elena deserved better. I can see why the first plan was to kill both Salvatores and let Elena live a good life without them. But fans decided her story will be about Salvatores and writers submitted to it. She is not her own person anymore.
Rewrite: When Elena moves the Salvatore mansion she should have moved into Stefan's bedroom to fight for their relationship. Her transitioning and Stephan' adjustment to her being a vampire should have been an obstacle they should have work through as a couple. The sex scene between Elena and Damon seems like it was just thrown in

S4 is totally inconsistent on many grounds,and i felt that stefan was acting out of character..cuz i cant imagine stefan being a dominating person(forcing animal blood on her),thats the exact thing that he hates about damon! And damon seemed confident af,when he said that he'd accept elena either way,what exactly was he thinking,bcoz stefan actually accepted her and kept loving her in s5 as well,when she wasn't apparently 'fixed',and was still a vampire! Delena have chemistry but they should only have been a fling, i dont see true love. STELENA on the other hand is true epic love. Stefan did everything for elena he even saved her friends instead of her because she wanted that and stefan respected that! Damon would never do that he would be selfish and save elena. Stelena both have each respect and care moreover they had more compatibility which is one of relationship straits yet due to consequences, stelena ended leaving stefan wounded until season 6 or 7, he moved on developing feelings for Caroline.

I only started watching this show a little over a month ago and to be honest I very grateful I am able to see it in it's entirety without the wait or building up of which one is she going to choose. This show has some of the most subtle

You think I wanna stand here and judging you after you've tortured for 5 years? Damon: Stop defending me! I won't change who I am. I can't. But I refuse to change you.
Elena hasn't personality. That's my biggest problem with that character, she has such a big depends issues. Apparently she can't do anything not related with Stefan or Damon. She ruined Damon character, i was happy that Stefan run from that relationship
And how Elena can even compare her actions to Damon's. Really writers, how dare you. Elena Felt remorse for what she did. Show me where Damon ever felt guilty when he killed a random person.
The difference between Damon and Elena is that he knows the actions he takes and the choices he makes are wrong and he doesn’t care, but Elena on the other hand makes it a mission to try and justify them. At least Damon is up front about his wrongdoings, but Elena tries to act like what he does is okay even though deep down, she knows that he’s wrong. Being a psychopathic murderer is one thing, but justifying one is a whole other. She’s just as much of a psychopath as Damon is. Probably even more (to an extent).
But in this scene we see that Damon feels guilty so deeply that he can’t handle. This is such a strong feeling that he can’t escape of, plus, Enzo just add to it called him monster. So here he just tries to handle and accept the truth and Elena tries to escape the truth (she is always good at denial). But Damon really needs to feel guilty right now, it helps him to avoid mistakes in future , (like guilt for killing Tayler, that would be with him for the rest of his life and preserve from murder people). But he needs time to process the bad day and find his new path. They really shouldn’t mix their feelings and their actions. If she loves him, she should tell him the truth and support to not give up on redemption while he feels regrets. But Elena was upset in this moment too, so she can’t being supportive when she needs support herself.
I thought this was gonna happen but not so fast and not that easily either, but i do have to say i rooted for Delena but now that there not together in real life it's awkward. When his voice cracked I could feel his pain and see that he was angry at himself and her also I felt like it was there real relationship coming out on screen.... I thought it was weird that Elena would still love someone even though he had been slaughtering people even when there together I still love Damon but if I was her I would be like I need some time to think... ALONE
She means that he went and did this awful thing, not BEFORE they were together (when he could do whatever he wanted, really) but WHILE they were together. And he kept it from her. You don't really go on mass killing sprees without telling your girlfriend, y'know? hahah

Even without his memories, he still protected her and was hurt when found of about her and Damon. They are so ment to be together!!!!!!
I love how people believe this is the end for Delena, wake up people the whole show is about a love triangle about Damon, Elena, and Stefan. Delena is not over, just like Stelena is not over, and really come on how many times did Stelena break up and get back together, trust me Delena will be together again. Stelena will probably be together again, just accept it whether you are Delena or Stelena. I am Delena because they are perfect but I know the love triangle isn't over, but when it is the absolute end, I believe it will be Delena.

Alana Perry First of all if the only reason you have for Stelena is because the universe says so then your ship sucks. Second of all it could be Katherine and Stefan and since they are growing closer now, it would make more sense that they get together. Third of all if the universe thing was true, then Elena never would have chosen Damon over Stefan in the first place, just like how Silas and Amara were all about each other and loved no one else, it would have been like that for Stefan and Elena as well, but it wasn't. Fourth of all the universe thing could work out in Damon and Elena's favor because it could be like their love defied the universe type thing. Fifth of all, you cant really take what Tessa said seriously because she was kind of crazy. Sixth of all if you truly, deeply, loved someone the way Stefan says he loves Elena he would have saved her instead of Matt, because when you really love someone then what they need comes before what they want. You don't leave them or judge them for the things they did in their past, but you also don't walk away from them when you hit a rough patch or enter a serious situation with heavy consequences. (Since this is a fictional tv show, I'm not including vampirism in that statement.) Elena wasn't stupid for standing by Stefan while he did the things he was doing. Only with Damon, right? Smh. If she was stupid for not giving up on Damon, then she definitely was the same way with Stefan. He's no exception. Elena never once gave up on Stefan when he became a ripper for Klaus. She held on to the hope that she would find him and that he could be saved. But Stefan, like how Damon was here, tried to convince her that she shouldn't keep fighting. After putting herself in harm's way trying to rescue him. After learning about the trail of bodies he was leaving all over the east coast. He tried to convince her that the chapter of his life with her was forever gone. Even though in his heart he didn't wanna believe it, he wanted her to stop worrying about him and let him go; that after everything he had done, he couldn't be saved. Elena wasn't stupid to keeping loving and fighting for Stefan and she definitely wasn't with Damon either. Damon *should NOT* have kept his vengeance on the Whitmore blood line going for as long as he did. Especially since he was actually finally happy and with Elena. Nor should he have kept it a secret from her. He should've just went after the people slaughtering them in the 50's and ended it there. But you watch this scene and you can just see how ashamed he was and how he hated himself for what he chose to do. But I don't really blame him for this because he was being horrifyingly tortured for 5 years. But let's not forget that when Enzo was with him in the mansion and convinced him to kill Aaron then and there, he compelled him to leave town. So he was going to leave him alone. Damon was hesitant because of Elena since she now knew about everything. And plus he also knew that she had befriended him. He was so close, but then Enzo *and* Katherine had to step in and making everything worse. Still, it didn't excuse him killing Aaron or letting Enzo threaten Jeremy, but my point is is that he did try. Elena knew what she was getting herself into with Damon. She already knew that he was nothing like Stefan and that their relationship was gonna be messy and more complicated. Look, (again, since this is a fictional tv show, putting vampires/vampirism/killings aside...) life is messy! Love is messy! *It's never going to be constant sunshine and rainbows.* And that's the way it should be. Damon and Elena were maybe more toxic than Stefan and Elena, but Delena was definitely more realistic. With Stefan..Elena, I felt, was always safe and in her comfort zone. Where with Damon, she was able to be more vibrant and free to accept who she was. Good sides and bad. Stelena definitely had their disagreements, but they had that "perfect on paper" type of relationship. And while that's a beautiful thing, it is also boring. The only thing that got in their way (other than Damon) was Stefan going with Klaus. Other than that, their relationship for the most part, was smooth and easy. It's like they were a carousel. Where Delena was the exciting, unpredictable, dangerous, bumpy rollercoaster. That's what life/true love is. Yes, it shouldn't be too toxic, but it also can't be too easy-going. There has to be an in between; a balance. You know...people will ship Caroline with someone like Klaus, who was in some ways *way worse* than Damon, and they'll still say they hate Delena and call them toxic . Caroline was in some ways just like Elena (personality wise) so Klaroline is no different. Well, anyways, this is the only thing about Delena's relationship that I disliked the most. Cause this break up could've been avoided had Damon just let his vengeance go after 50+ years, apologized to Elena, and tried harder to better himself from this past incident.

Ich meine Elena hat auch grauenhafte Dinge getan, während ihre Menschlichkeit abgeschaltet/ausgeschaltet war. Mir hat Elena richtig Leid getan und ich hatte Mitleid mit ihr, nachdem Damon mit ihr Schluss gemacht hat, und zu gern hätte ich ihm dafür einen kräftigen/gewaltigen Einlauf verpassen wollen oder ihn gewaltig zurecht gewiesen! (This scene gave me an intense urge to give Damon a powerful Ass Kick for breaking up with Elena and breaking her heart just because he firmly believes he's too bad/evil for her to keep being with her and that he didn't deserve Elena! I mean Elena also did horrible things while her humanity was switched off. I really felt sorry for Elena and felt sorry for her after Damon break up with her and I wanted to give him a powerful Kick in the Ass or rebuke him for it!)

I wouldn't exactly say that. I mean while she was with Stefan it did seem like she tried to be like him, or at least as "good" and as "pure" as him. When she was with Stefan she became a goody two shoes who felt morally superior to everyone else. She couldn't and would not see that everything wasn't as black and white as she thought, because that's the way Stefan seemed. Before her and Stefan got together Elena told Stefan she was trying to get back to her old self. And her old self was a little rebellious and carefree, and she wanted a life that had passion, adventure and danger. She even proved that when she met Damon for the very first time on the road. She told him she got into a fight with Matt because he had their future all planned out. And she just didn't want that kind of boring, routine, all mapped out life.
When she got with Stefan, she tried to be her old self, but ended up adapting to Stefan's goody two shoes personality where everything had to be all good. That there had to be little to no room for the wild, dangerous, unknown kinda life, because that's just not who Stefan was or where he lived. Stefan tried so hard to fight the dangerous and unknown. She never had the chance to explore the unknown with him because he was all about making the safe and sensible choices.
With Damon, she was able to find herself in her own way. She was able to see the other side and decided for herself whether or not she could handle it. She became more open, more free, less judging, and even let herself accept the darkest parts of her, which everyone has, but its something Stefan could never do because of his complete and total fear of it. Elena became stronger and less reliant on people saving her all the time. She found herself with Damon. Stefan just sheltered her from being her true self.
I watched this show from the beggining to end but l still can not understand why everyone is so willingly to save elena all the time. why does everyone sacrifice everything that they have for her? she is just a normal girl .she does not have Powers or special aim to help or save the day so why does everyone act like she is a Saint. I can understand that people want to save their friends but literally everyone in this Show just work for elena. That is just annoying.

I'm gonna start by saying every relationship in this show is toxic. I love this scene, and consider it one of Damon's best. They're communicating as they always have, both acknowledging the current issues in their relationship. Damon wants Elena to stop defending him because he wants the blame. Completely opposite when she was sired. "You know what I haven't gotten? Blame, guilt." Damon doesn't want Elena to be like him, to be the bad guy, and he certainly doesn't want her sacrificing those good qualities he fell in love with. He wants her to expect more because she deserves more. Again, completely opposite 3x19. "And I don't want to have to live up to anyone's expectations." This scene encompasses that episode in a big and very important way. He can't have Elena enabling him by defending him and basically settling for less. The moment she stops pushing is the moment she accepts things as they are, which will ultimately destroy their relationship. Damon's change is a series-long journey because, unlike Stefan, he fully embraced his vampirism. While this requires patience and understanding on Elena's part, it doesn't require she defend him when it's not fitting. Damon's issue in this scene is his complete lack of faith in himself, and the fact that he knows he's plateaued. He truly doesn't believe he can change. While he is terrified of changing Elena too much, and she's proving her change by defending him, he's self-sabotaging. I wish Elena heard the words he gave to Katherine when he tried to patch things up in 5x12, but this is a necessary move for Damon... for reasons that help him. Sometimes you need to take 2 steps back to take 10 steps forward.
People love to say they are toxic, but this scene, among many others, demonstrates that it is not so.

All of this was bs. Season 5 was just testing the waters to see if Stelena could resurface, but Delena was *loud* and strong, there was no going back. And if it was going to take 12 seasons for Stefan and Elena to get back together, it's better it ended how it ended. Damon and Elena grew so much toward the end of season 6, it's a pity we didn't get to see all the perks of their relationship.

And how Elena can even compare her actions to Damon's. Really writers, how dare you. Elena Felt remorse for what she did. Show me where Damon ever felt guilty when he killed a random person.
The difference between Damon and Elena is that he knows the actions he takes and the choices he makes are wrong and he doesn’t care, but Elena on the other hand makes it a mission to try and justify them. At least Damon is up front about his wrongdoings, but Elena tries to act like what he does is okay even though deep down, she knows that he’s wrong. Being a psychopathic murderer is one thing, but justifying one is a whole other. She’s just as much of a psychopath as Damon is. Probably even more (to an extent).
But in this scene we see that Damon feels guilty so deeply that he can’t handle. This is such a strong feeling that he can’t escape of, plus, Enzo just add to it called him monster. So here he just tries to handle and accept the truth and Elena tries to escape the truth (she is always good at denial). But Damon really needs to feel guilty right now, it helps him to avoid mistakes in future , (like guilt for killing Tayler, that would be with him for the rest of his life and preserve from murder people). But he needs time to process the bad day and find his new path. They really shouldn’t mix their feelings and their actions. If she loves him, she should tell him the truth and support to not give up on redemption while he feels regrets. But Elena was upset in this moment too, so she can’t being supportive when she needs support herself.

Second of all it could be Katherine and Stefan and since they are growing closer now, it would make more sense that they get together. Elena wasn't stupid for standing by Damon and choosing to still love him. That's what you do when you truly love someone. You don't leave them or judge them for the things they did in their past, but you also don't walk away from them when you hit a rough patch or enter a serious situation with heavy consequences. (Since this is a fictional tv show, I'm not including vampirism in that statement.) Elena wasn't stupid for standing by Stefan while he did the things he was doing. Only with Damon, right? Smh. If she was stupid for not giving up on Damon, then she definitely was the same way with Stefan. He's no exception.
Elena never once gave up on Stefan when he became a ripper for Klaus. She held on to the hope that she would find him and that he could be saved. But Stefan, like how Damon was here, tried to convince her that she shouldn't keep fighting. After putting herself in harm's way trying to rescue him. After learning about the trail of bodies he was leaving all over the east coast. He tried to convince her that the chapter of his life with her was forever gone. Even though in his heart he didn't wanna believe it, he wanted her to stop worrying about him and let him go; that after everything he had done, he couldn't be saved.
Elena wasn't stupid to keeping loving and fighting for Stefan and she definitely wasn't with Damon either.
Damon *should NOT* have kept his vengeance on the Whitmore blood line going for as long as he did. Especially since he was actually finally happy and with Elena. Nor should he have kept it a secret from her. He should've just went after the people slaughtering them in the 50's and ended it there. But you watch this scene and you can just see how ashamed he was and how he hated himself for what he chose to do. But I don't really blame him for this because he was being horrifyingly tortured for 5 years. But let's not forget that when Enzo was with him in the mansion and convinced him to kill Aaron then and there, he compelled him to leave town. So he was going to leave him alone. Damon was hesitant because of Elena since she now knew about everything. And plus he also knew that she had befriended him. He was so close, but then Enzo *and* Katherine had to step in and making everything worse.
Still, it didn't excuse him killing Aaron or letting Enzo threaten Jeremy, but my point is is that he did try. Elena knew what she was getting herself into with Damon. She already knew that he was nothing like Stefan and that their relationship was gonna be messy and more complicated.
Look, (again, since this is a fictional tv show, putting vampires/vampirism/killings aside...) life is messy! Love is messy! *It's never going to be constant sunshine and rainbows.* And that's the way it should be. Damon and Elena were maybe more toxic than Stefan and Elena, but Delena was definitely more realistic. With Stefan..Elena, I felt, was always safe and in her comfort zone. Where with Damon, she was able to be more vibrant and free to accept who she was. Good sides and bad.
Stelena definitely had their disagreements, but they had that "perfect on paper" type of relationship. And while that's a beautiful thing, it is also boring. The only thing that got in their way (other than Damon) was Stefan going with Klaus. Other than that, their relationship for the most part, was smooth and easy. It's like they were a carousel. Where Delena was the exciting, unpredictable, dangerous, bumpy rollercoaster. That's what life/true love is. Yes, it shouldn't be too toxic, but it also can't be too easy-going. There has to be an in between; a balance.
You know...people will ship Caroline with someone like Klaus, who was in some ways *way worse* than Damon, and they'll still say they hate Delena and call them toxic . Caroline was in some ways just like Elena (personality wise) so Klaroline is no different. Well, anyways, this is the only thing about Delena's relationship that I disliked the most. Cause this break up could've been avoided had Damon just let his vengeance go after 50+ years, apologized to Elena, and tried harder to better himself from this past incident.

Bei dieser Szene hab ich intensiv den Drang verspürt Damon einen kräftigen/gewaltigen Einlauf verpassen zu wollen, dafür das er mit Elena Schluss gemacht und ihr das Herz 💔 gebrochen hat, nur weil er der festen Ansicht ist, dass er zu schlecht/böse für sie ist um weiter mit ihr zusammen sein zu können!
Ich meine Elena hat auch grauenhafte Dinge getan, während ihre Menschlichkeit abgeschaltet/ausgeschaltet war.
Mir hat Elena richtig Leid getan und ich hatte Mitleid mit ihr, nachdem Damon mit ihr Schluss gemacht hat, und zu gern hätte ich ihm dafür einen kräftigen/gewaltigen Einlauf verpassen wollen oder ihn gewaltig zurecht gewiesen!
(This scene gave me an intense urge to give Damon a powerful Ass Kick for breaking up with Elena and breaking her heart just because he firmly believes he's too bad/evil for her to keep being with her and that he didn't deserve Elena!
I mean Elena also did horrible things while her humanity was switched off.
