- Introducing the simplest DIY (or not) prop controller for your Animatronics and Halloween props ever! The easy to use and inexpensive DIY RC (radio controlled) Prop Controller Kit with multi track programming is here! I couldn't wait to share the updated system with all my Halloween and builder friends.
Multi Track mode breaks up the controller inputs into 4 separate tracks that can be recorded independently but played back simultaneously. The receiver can then be used as an inexpensive, stand alone, triggerable prop and Animatronic controller!
Live puppeteering of multiple props uses a separate receiver board that can be found at bit.ly/3hFQU8w
To get your own DIY Recorder Controller kit, go to bit.ly/2UPMP84
Stay tuned for future updates.

How am I just finding out about this? Awesome idea/product, have always thought about making my own animations but the motion/effects execution part of the equation made it seem daunting. After seeing this video I'm ordering a set today and ill just have to send Spirit Halloween an apology for all the money I won't be spending on their aniatronics going forward.. lol
Great stuff ... thanks. I will be looking to get started soon.
I hope it works out as well for you as it has for me. This has sped up my set up process immensely!
I cannot get this device to record on ANY of the available tracks.
After trying to set up the record feature, as instructed, the transmitter no longer works with the receiver.
Please offer advise ASAP.
I have a STEM camp demo in a few days.
Steve, I am supposed to get my prop controller today! I am very excited… One question I did have is how to add sound and sync it to this controller… Are you going to create a video on this? I am an absolute noob :)
Outstanding! For the audio, I use a Wee Little Talker from Haunt Hackers to sync the jaw servo so I use that for the audio - ruclips.net/video/FQ6Ikz-kg7A/видео.html We do have plans for an add on audio board for this controller but it is still on the drawing board.
@@halstaff well, i would like to time everything to an audio track, i think this is a ness. addition. In the meantime, can the current receiver board fire off an audio track that i could sync jaw movement to?
Without that functionality it complicates the creation of a talking skull tremendously. Just my .02
I really need help !! I want to make a large Medusa prop outside . I need a motor that can make the snakes move outside a hollow wig head . So it can move at least 2- 3 ways per side at once any suggestions?
My choice would be a wiper motor. Lots of torque and the price is right - www.frightprops.com/electric-motors/motors/dual-speed-high-torque-prop-motor-mot1.html
This is really cool Steve thanks for showing us. I'm looking for a real easy solution for activating lights and sound effects when harrison throws switches in his playhouse. The lights are easy to make turn off and on of course but it's the sound effect I'm not super sure about. I need to write you and pick your brain for simple solutions.
Hope this helps others to bring their props to life! Reach out when you're ready and we can talk.
May I give you a suggestion to improve your robot's movement geometry?
Of course! Always looking for ways to improve.
@@halstaff I see you use 2 movement in the shoulder. one that makes the arm swing forward and back(arm swing), and one that makes the shoulder rotate left and right(shoulder roll).
I think if you use a combination of movements that make the shoulder swing forward and back(arm swing), along with an arm swing in and out(arm raise) which comes after the shoulder swing mechanically, you will have a more lifelike/desired effect. If you want I can send you a basic movement diagram of what i mean
Hey steve... Thank you for running with my suggestion for the rc controller board... Its going to help alot with my haunt... It will be so much easier to use this set up then to endless tweek the vsa or venuemagic... I just ordered a soldered kit and will be ordering several boards... Thanks for everything you do for us... You make our ideas so much easier to bring to life...
Btw the 30mph spider thanks you too...
My contribution to the cause!
Ok so i decided to try out one of the wee little talker... But the site is shut down due to covid... So i went with the talking terry 450 version... Any suggestions with that board...
Hey steve i finally got my pic changed to the spider pic... Yaaaa
I could not fing the link to the extra boards on addicore could you me help out please...
@@Gwicz I haven't used the newer versions of that board but still have some of the older models working in my display.
@@halstaff btw i finally got the track ir camera to work my skulls but i have to do alot of tweeking in venuemagic or vsa... Im using the son of chucky boards now... I love how you did your set up, i cant wait to try it out... I was having a really hard time keeping everything synced up... Im hoping your boards solve this issue... Does those boards come with a audio servo controller built in??? I didnt know so i got the talking terry boards... Btw the pic of the spider is how i am decorating my 30mph spider... i got to ride him the other day... snappy quick... Im working on videos... More still to come later
Will this work with pneumatic props? Also what would you recommend for adding audio.
you are so Cool 😎😎😎 I wish I could do what you do
How much weight do you think that Mantis rc will hold, i cannot find weight specs anywhere.
In addition to the framework pieces, I have three 12V batteries along with the motor controller and the receiver board. I've tested it with a couple of bricks on top and it ran OK on flat and even surfaces but that is probably about maxed out.
ServoCity also offers a 6 wheeled version that might be a better choice if you're pushing the limits. I actually am running mine with the suspension locked off for the application I'm working on. It will have a shell over the entire frame so I don't want it tilting.

Thanks Steve, love all the concept but just can’t get my dyslexic brain to work with flashing LEDs as my feedback...
A display with text would be sooooo killer.
If all goes well, there will eventually be a more advanced version that will include a display.
What about the ability to use a air solenoid
Yes you can. Connect the solenoid to a relay which is controlled by the DIY Controller.
Hi Steve. Does this setup let you set limits on the servo motors? Thanks
Hey steve i was looking at the ir sensor you suggested... I live in florida and is says in the info that the high operating temp is 70°... My haunt is outside and it is generally hotter then that even at night... Hmmmm maybe thats why the tomb stones i got from spirithalloween dont work unless your literally sitting on them... any suggestion on a different sensor to use... Ive looked at red beam but with the amount of fog we pump out they fail... And advice please...
I live in Southern California and we can have some warm Halloween's. I haven't noticed that the heat caused any issues with the performance of the PIR.
Thanks for the video. I look forward to taking this update for a spin soon!
Addicore did a video on the steps to update your board. You can find it at ruclips.net/video/L2kGgEv1Qmc/видео.html
Hi, I've been looking at the cool site for a few days. Really great stuff to play with.
It sure has streamlined my prop programming!
Wow, that is absolutely fantastic you must be so happy with it Steve. You are so clever. x
I am pleased and I do have some extremely smart friends!
Finally got my pic changed geez that was a pain... Hey steve i went to order more reciever boards but i couldnt find them on the addicore site... How about a link please... And just wondering what you think of the talking terry 450 boards... Cus the wee little talker guys are shut down due to covid... Any othe audio servo controller you suggest...
Here's the link to order additional receiver/recorder boards - bit.ly/3hFQU8w I'm hoping Steve Bjork will have the Haunt Hacker products back on line soon.
Thanks buddy your the man...
Im not very good at soldering so i like the fact that the talking terry board is complete and with the 450 version its exactly the same as the wee little talker...
New addition to the haunt this year... A haunted talking cemetary fence... Thats what im doing with these boards... Going to be hystarical... Im doing videos this year... I will post them and send you links...
I’m having trouble re programming my peekaboo ac prop controls
I haven't used that particular model but here's a video on setting up the picoBoo F-105 AC - ruclips.net/video/0DUpfw-CF2k/видео.html&feature=emb_logo
Halstaff's Animatronic Workshop thx so much
How exciting! I am happy for you
I think a lot of people will benefit from this.
Cool can't wait to try one out & your book is awesome! I posted a video of the creeper skeleton I just built using info from your book and other youtube sources. Thanks!
Thank you! It sounds like you've caught the Animatronic bug! Sorry but there is no cure!
@@halstaff Right! I haven’t even finished props for this year’s haunt and I’m already planning out next years. LoL
@@doombreed9182 You've got it bad! Or good. I'm not sure which but welcome to the madness.
Only one year ahead... Dang in thinking about 4 years ahead... Lol
I would love to recreate that whole robot, do you have a list of all of the parts for this?
I'm doing a live stream tonight to discuss how I put these together. You can find the parts list on my website at www.diyanimatronics.net/ The servos gearboxes I used are no longer available but ServoCity has new models available now - www.servocity.com/servo-gearboxes/
@@halstaff You are so awesome.. THANK YOU!!!
How long aof a routine can be record? 1, 2 minutes, more?
To be honest, I haven't run one longer than a couple of minutes but it should be able to do much longer than that. How long of a routine are you interested in using?
@@halstaff About About 120-150 seconds or so.
@@charleslongfellow5318 Shouldn't have a problem. Be sure to stay tuned as the new beta audio board is about to go for testing. If all goes as expected, they will be available soon. You will be able to incorporate audio into your routines and have a synced jaw servo as well.
@@halstaff Thats exactly what I was looking for. Is there anything available to incorporate audio at this time?
Very versatile
I keep finding more uses for it. I've bought 5 so far and need more!
