I think the legs are supposed to suggest that the entire base was transported to the planet's surface in one piece, down from orbit and landed on those legs after deploying them in flight, as opposed to being constructuted directly on the surface. Definitely an interesting take on the space base idea, although I personally much prefer the lunar base from two years ago.
I'm going to defend the spaceship ramp. It has the arrows pointing up. Every kid knows that arrows speed things up, therefore the spaceship wouldn't be able to leave the orbit without the ramp. Also, it just looks nice. It looks nice with and without something on it. A lot of stands like that only look nice with something on them.
Definitely sold on this line. Not a massive fan of previous Space lines, but I am a huge Subnautica fan and these sets look like perfect sources for Subnautica MOC parts. The modular sections even look exactly like the Seatruck modules from Below Zero. The sets also look fantastic, if I wasn’t more into Subnautica it would still be a definite buy just for the sets themselves.
The biggest sell on this line is that it really does feel well-rounded. The builds, vehicles, etc. are versatile and interesting enough that it can appeal to kids AND adults with the level of detail. I really like what LEGO has done here
My favorite part of the set is probably the shuttle. Young me would have loved to be able to transport those modules around, sending them between different stations and such.
I think an underrated aspect of most of the vehicles in this theme is that their cockpits tend to be big enough for minidolls. Some are even obviously designed for the. Like the Space Rover with those little feet rest things.
The yellow "terrain" with the loop looks like a palate! like for moving samples and equipment. You could take of the 2x2 jumpers and put other stuff on there to move around the site. You could take the loop off and attach it to the top of other parts of the set or other sets from the same theme :)
I really like it when you act out scenarios a kid might go through with the play features of the set like the ship taking off and the rock breaking apart. It brings a lot of life to the reviews!
I think the launch ramp for the spacecraft is a bit like Gerry Anderson's Thunderbird 2 - and the Lego designer even incorporated a transport and science/living quarters pod system into the ship! Great review as always thx.
Im loving this new space line. I know its a longshot, but i would love to see a second wave of these later in the year. More of the alien terrain and stuff.
17:46 Is that the space theme's gold mining mogul in the gold Lamé spacesuit with epaulettes? He's giving off some smiling assassin kingpin overlord vibes!
I definitely feel you on the whole "Evil leader look" thing. I'm sure it's accidental, gold is meant to represent high status, and black won't get mixed with sub fractions that are colour coordinated, it is also the reverse of white that's the main shared colour among sub factions. So i understand why he looks like he looks.... But I'm expecting a twist down the line
The spaceship module should have a crane loop, so that you can load it and connect it with the crane (and put it on the rover?). Could have another module instead of the launch pad, and then you have play based of that
It is a nice base, ship, and rover/space truck. It's a shame there's not more cargo for the crane and truck. Launcher could be better. I thought it would have some ability to propel the ship, but that ship is probably too heavy for that. The ship displays well on it at least. Include hair pieces, LEGO!
I think the cool thing to do would be to combine this with the previous City Space base set, and then you would have more of an actual base compound. This being the 'base' set has me convinced the alternate metallic colors or things like this engineer's red helmet is a style of ranking.
I think the shuttle being able to transport the crystals around makes perfect sense, not necessarily to just bring them to the orbital station, but all the way back to earth for study. It and the station are intended to function like the Apollo mission lunar models, where the lander separates from a orbital station to land, and then reconnects after take off to return home. I also think the launch ramp _kinda_ makes sense, the arrows clearly indicate an upwards take off, and I think what Lego is going for is it to use engine back blast to help boost the rocket. It would also propel the blast away from the ground, allowing stuff to safely be in closer proximity to the pad. Great review as always! I'm also so glad to see you be critical of Lego when they slack, the price; lack of alternate headgear/faces; limited usage for the crane and cargo are all disappointing, which lowers the value when compared to it's cost. Lego could do a lot better with this set, and since they want to charge premium prices, they **need** to
I’m really hoping you do a video of all of the City Space sets together to really showcase the interchangeability of parts with modules, batteries, terrain, etc. It’s a shame there isn’t more in this set for the crane, but there is another set that includes two large rocks with loops and a small lift arm that would be for loading and unloading the truck in the field.
I really like the apprach to make the space line more SciFi but I wish they would have designed the aliens as proper figures that have own buildings, vehicles, etc. So you have as second party to really interact with. Great review as always!
Cargo Modules I think instead of that single cargo pallet, they should have made interchangeable equipment modules that could drop onto the back of the truck. like maybe one is a mini science laboratory, another could be a cargo box for loading crystals. then the play pattern of the crane being available only at Home Base kinda makes sense, you'd reconfigure the truck there, then send it out on different missions. ideally these would be the same Modules with the 'airlock' connector seen across the line, Though that introduces the challenge of then not being designed with a crane hook spot...
I built a Pantasy set recently with 2700 pieces for around $90, and it was as good as or better than anything Lego puts out, so, yeah, $135 feels like a lot to ask for this, as much as I like some of the design ideas.
I think the orange thing on the truck is just a pallet. The crane loads it empty, astronauts put specimens on the empty pallet, then the crane can move it to wherever it needs to go.
I appreciate that you lead with the big build and ignore the algorithm logic. But I also usually watch until the end of your videos so hopefully stretching into the next standard deviation throws off the algorithm. I agree the launchpad seems odd and weird that it has a battery module.
Just looks to be storage space for a replacement battery for the spaceship, considering there's 2 golden "slots" on the launchpad and 1 of them is empty.
This whole series is a big win overall. I like the colors, the designs, the prints, those awesome minifigs, and the module system. Very cool. This is the first set that I think you've reviewed that has had some "issues" with it. The little cargo palate seems weird on its own. It would have been great to see the parts from the launcher used to give us another module, some more cargo crates for the crane, and some headgear. Not a fan of the big stickers, but that is what it is now. So close.
I love the look of this, and made similar assumptions about the center gear rack inside the station. I love that it's "complete" without open back walls, and the observation / comms tower is such a nice design.
This set looks so much better here than it did in the promo shots. However, I agree that the takeoff ramp is superfluous. I don't understand why they didn't do cargo containers instead. It would have been perfect for this set; the ship brings cargo down to the surface and the crane unloads it. Second crate holds the crystals. They could have even incorporated a cargo system with the other space sets.
I wonder how many total compatible modules he has with all of the sets combined and if they are all unique. Would love to see them all together at once!
I think the crane on the tower is meant to grab the grabby hole on the platform from the small terrain piece and then gets unloaded to the track rather than the other way around. And the old man with the gold and black suit is some kind of commander of some sort which explains the outfit that symbolizes authority although it can be mistaken as some sort of villain by the way it looks.
Somehow they managed to make the whole set lesser than the individual components. Surprisingly the weirdest part isn't the gold astronaut, which is weird for sure, but the fact that they give you living quarters but no hair pieces for the minifigures...
The low number of stickers makes me happy. The platform, I can live with and the tower / crane is great. I find the base of it a bit small and cramped. I am curious if they will make a T module later this year or if we will have to make that ourselves.
The price or value is better than with the city space wave before this. That pricing was harsh. Of course you will easily get the sets with discounts. This set is 140 € and i can get it in germany for under 110 already. The eu vs us pricing of the wave is again all over the place, some are more expensive in the us, some in the eu. I don't get it - just make consistent. But at least we are getting more space this year.
On the truck, can you imagine some of the older hinged skylights used as the sides? It would allow for the snots on the sides but give it a more sealed environment look. Would also like to see the the ship attach to the "air lock" pieces for connectivity. The lunar research base has that vibe.
I was looking at these sets last night at the Lego store and was surprised i hadn't seen em yet cause normally im in the know about new releases. Don't know how i got this far into the year and hadn't even heard of these till yesterday
I really appreciate the honesty with the reviews. We totally agree on everything. I wish the truck could transport modules and that they could be lifted by crane. I'd like to see landing site instead of a launch pad. I haven't built lego in over 20 years but when I saw the new space sets I fell in love with them again and had to order all space sets.
Yes! I was waiting for this review. Thanks Jang! The set is really cool, I loved the truck when i first saw it. wish they incorporated some shocks for the wheels and some kind of crane and other functions to be out in the field researching. maybe like one of the modules could go in the back of the truck like a space camper or something. but i really love it. Also, i'm going to date myself here but @Jangbricks - The ship really gives me Starcom starmax bomber vibes but chibi'er. I think when i get mine i will modify it as some kind of navigator/people carrier. Thanks again for the review!!!
Second Passenger for Spaceship I just now realized, there is no Large Spaceship in this line. they're either small, or accessory vehicles for a base/station. I guess it's still really a City subtheme at this point.
Thank you very much for giving us great insight into this set and the theme in general. I enjoyed very much to see it up close and learn about its details.
I agree that the truck needed another pallet. It would be forgivable if there was more terrain build, but sadly the terrain is not integrated into the main base. 😢
I think the new trans-black is way too dark. And LEGO knows it, because in the marketing pictures and on the box, they make it look much, much more see-through. While in reality, you cannot see much of what's inside.
Thanks for the review. I love the look of this base and I can't wait to get it (waiting for a good GWP or 2xVIP). If you don't mind sharing, please, what's the color of that 1x2 plate you said was missing, so I can make sure I have an extra one on-hand in the right color?
Definitely gonna budget for this one. Love that it works with the 2019 line of Space sets and that the two sort of match. I’ll have a massive space force.
I love the idea of terrain being able to be cut out, extracted and transported for further inspection. Now that youve pointed it out, it makes total sense to have this in all the sets for more interoperability et playability, thats a bit of a miss (though its not something I had noticed before that!). I really like that idea, hopefully theyll integrate something similar to thisnin future lines
It just dawned on me: the computerscreens are homages to Star Trek's LCARS. The small vertical band that moves into a wider vertical band is typical of that styling. And logical! It gives a good visual identity for naturally communicating "hey, I'm a screen and you can interact with me". I like it!
There should be an attachment on that spaceship so the crane can place it on the ramp, that should be a minor modification but I think it would help a lot with the playability of the set and usage of the crane
Figured it out. That piece of soil is supposed to be in place a top of the mining fround with the amoebe. After mining it, you load it into the truck. The truck drives it to the base where it can be unloaded and samplea of it can be examined in the lab. The soil you can load into the spaceship, which flies it to that other big space set for further research, with as result the invention of kragle.
It is a shame when they make cranes a big feature of sets and then don't add many ways of using it (and are cranes that fun for kids anyway?) Instead of the crane I think there could've been some landing pads around the command tower for landing small 'flyers' on. Then the parts budget for the take off ramp could've been used on little ships/flyers/speeders for the astronauts to get around on
I'm surprised this is so built up I'm so used to all the city sets just being facades so I'm happy with the direction they took this set it's very nice
Thank you for your high quality videos, they are truly appreciated! Have you perhaps tried combining the lego city space sets from 2019 Mars Exploration - especially the 60227: Lunar Space Station with sets from the 2022 City line like the 60349: Lunar Space Station, 60350: Lunar Research Base with any of the new Lego city space sets from this new 2024 line? They are supposed to be modular and interconnectable. I would love to see a video on how these may be combined!
The price is not terrible when compared to the last wave of big City Space sets. My main complaint is that the tower needs just one more of the modular space piece. I once had a missing 1x2 mason brick and instead it was a rounded 1x1 tile from Dots.... that wasn't used in the set.
The colors screams Starfield... I really like these space sets and regret a bit that I'm not a kid anymore. Then again they cost an arm and a leg when converted to PLN so I think my parents wouldn't be able to afford them in today's economy...
Talking about malformed parts worst cases I had the last 5 years are, within 60264 I had a warped and split yellow top piece. Which was no longer usable. Also had a warped and slightly squished torse piece with the 60405 rescue helicopter. And I love that set. Probably the best helicopter Lego released in years. As far as missing parts nothing yet... Had an odd leftover piece once. Which I got 1 too many off. Hardly ever happens as well. Another concern is misaligned sticker sheets. Which is frustrating especially if the sticker is like a menu sticker or something. Which often goes on a white tile with a black backing on the sticker for example. Then you notice too much that it is misaligned. Years back before this I had 1 wrong type of tire with a Speed champion set. X instead of O. I feel like QC is a pretty big issue with Lego, they claim that everything should be right. But we all know it is not. Especially if you buy sets often. You come across issues plenty of times. Luckily it isn't as bad as it is with Hasbro.
I like to imagine that the launch pad is actually a maintenance lift for the starship engines, and all the blue guys are the ship pilots and technicians.
I wish that there was another docking port on the base so it could act more like a central hub than an end piece. The ramp could be necessary for transporting large payloads to orbit. But I think instead of a launch pad a landing pad would be better because the modules would all be in orbit from the ring station and need to be transported to the surface.
The gold guy looks like he’s there to discuss the military applications of the energy source.
I think the legs are supposed to suggest that the entire base was transported to the planet's surface in one piece, down from orbit and landed on those legs after deploying them in flight, as opposed to being constructuted directly on the surface. Definitely an interesting take on the space base idea, although I personally much prefer the lunar base from two years ago.

loving this line so far, i hope they keep it for a while!

My favorite part of the set is probably the shuttle. Young me would have loved to be able to transport those modules around, sending them between different stations and such.
6:44 Lab in space + sickbay in space: Here comes the awful space body horror scenario ("What... what is happening to me?!")
I think an underrated aspect of most of the vehicles in this theme is that their cockpits tend to be big enough for minidolls. Some are even obviously designed for the. Like the Space Rover with those little feet rest things.

I love the easter egg connection they made with the screen sticker. Making it "communicate" with the space station
I am picturing a Rebel cell being lead by Saw Guerrera attacking this critical Imperial installation.
I love that Blacktron was founded by a friendly old miner.
Im loving this new space line. I know its a longshot, but i would love to see a second wave of these later in the year. More of the alien terrain and stuff.
Re the lack of hair pieces - would like to see colour co-ordinated caps with space logo on or berets.
8:32 the yellow thing looks like a pallet thats carrying the two jems
17:46 Is that the space theme's gold mining mogul in the gold Lamé spacesuit with epaulettes? He's giving off some smiling assassin kingpin overlord vibes!
I grew up with Classic Space, these new sets warm my heart :')
But I'm expecting a twist down the line
this makes me happy to see! Lego actually going back to their roots with fantasy / realistic playsets for kids
I assume the outfit on the leader figure is an homage to the old sci-fi serials where you'd often see characters dressed like that.
I like to think the gold guy looks scary and sinister but is actually chill. Also I like the launch ramp, it’s giving Thunderbird 2 to me
The spaceship module should have a crane loop, so that you can load it and connect it with the crane (and put it on the rover?). Could have another module instead of the launch pad, and then you have play based of that

Include hair pieces, LEGO!
The small shuttle from the orbital space station would make a great caboose for the space plane
I think the cool thing to do would be to combine this with the previous City Space base set, and then you would have more of an actual base compound.
This being the 'base' set has me convinced the alternate metallic colors or things like this engineer's red helmet is a style of ranking.

It's both modern AND retro and I can't wait to buy it!
Actually for $135 I'm pretty satisfied. The build is big and there's a lot of stuff to do within it
Thank you for not caring about the almighty "Algorithm" and just making good, honest content with fans placed first. 😊
I’m really hoping you do a video of all of the City Space sets together to really showcase the interchangeability of parts with modules, batteries, terrain, etc.

I really like the apprach to make the space line more SciFi but I wish they would have designed the aliens as proper figures that have own buildings, vehicles, etc. So you have as second party to really interact with. Great review as always!
Cargo Modules
I think instead of that single cargo pallet, they should have made interchangeable equipment modules that could drop onto the back of the truck.
like maybe one is a mini science laboratory, another could be a cargo box for loading crystals.
then the play pattern of the crane being available only at Home Base kinda makes sense, you'd reconfigure the truck there, then send it out on different missions.
ideally these would be the same Modules with the 'airlock' connector seen across the line, Though that introduces the challenge of then not being designed with a crane hook spot...
I want this set a lot but $135 is a lot for it
I built a Pantasy set recently with 2700 pieces for around $90, and it was as good as or better than anything Lego puts out, so, yeah, $135 feels like a lot to ask for this, as much as I like some of the design ideas.

No hair pieces? You see those "extra tile pieces?" Yeah... those are mo-hawk hair styles.
I appreciate that you lead with the big build and ignore the algorithm logic. But I also usually watch until the end of your videos so hopefully stretching into the next standard deviation throws off the algorithm.

Wow so martian aliens canonically exist in the Lego City Lore haha. Love that control tower design and how big it is.
That alien terrain sidebuild reminds me of the healing pools on Xen in Half-Life 1!
The admiral minifig definitely gives some Starship Troopers "I'm doing my part!" sorta vibes. I can see why it puts you off.
I like the launch ramp (reminds me a bit of Gundam Wing) but it does feel like more pieces than necessary were dedicated to it
This is such a cool set! This whole line is amazing. I would love a season 2 of this subtheme
Another great review. You always find the right words to express your ideas. And you touch the right spots of each set, the plus and cons. 👍
I wonder how many total compatible modules he has with all of the sets combined and if they are all unique. Would love to see them all together at once!
Your background music sounds like Shakira's "Your Hips Don't Lie" to me. Anyone else hear that??
The color scheme for the New Space series is Sweet.
Gosh I will say it again but I just A D O R E the Battery swap gimmick. Its such simple thing but it adds SO MUCH playposibilities

Is the gold guy supposed to be a governor or something, is lego implying not just space colonisation, but also space colonialism???
Diplomat in dress uniform? 🧐
On the truck, can you imagine some of the older hinged skylights used as the sides? It would allow for the snots on the sides but give it a more sealed environment look. Would also like to see the the ship attach to the "air lock" pieces for connectivity. The lunar research base has that vibe.

Very cool set! Lots of opportunities for play and it definitely isn't as barebones as it could have been, some nice details throughout.

I love the mouldability of the space theme! Awesome set
This is on my list to pick up on sale. I’ve enjoyed the smaller sets of this line and I hope we get more of these sets in the future
Second Passenger for Spaceship
I just now realized, there is no Large Spaceship in this line.

i kind of love the space governor hes great.
that space general guy gives off cool imperial vibes, love it
The gold shoulder pad person looks like they’re in Daft Punk
most of the new space sets are pretty cool - enjoyed building the command rover set.

I love it! Whole space line is awesome
That spacecraft pitched up at a jaunty angle on its launcher reminds me of Thunderbird 2.
Needs some space palm trees.
To me this is best Lego city space theme to date
Ive never been fan of another city space sets they dull but these look cool and worth it
This definitely is a fun set! I would like to see a ladder or something to get to the tower, though.
I reaaaally love the mini-robots n.n
the guy in gold has a verry oil baron vibe.
and the are great leader look
If this were a 2020 lego city set, this would definitely be $150.
Jang, would you consider be a sponsor for The LEGO Group in the future?
I like to imagine that the launch pad is actually a maintenance lift for the starship engines, and all the blue guys are the ship pilots and technicians.

I wish that there was another docking port on the base so it could act more like a central hub than an end piece.
The ramp could be necessary for transporting large payloads to orbit. But I think instead of a launch pad a landing pad would be better because the modules would all be in orbit from the ring station and need to be transported to the surface.
IMO the Transparent Black is too dark.
Please make a lego space “train” with all the set modules connected. Would be cool to see in a video.
