Making a Japanese Kitsune Fox Mask! (half-mask)

- Today we’re making a mask I personally adore, and no, not the kind that you’re supposed to be wearing when leaving your house rn.
The Japanese fox mask, also known as Kitsune mask, is an iconic and fascinating part of Japanese culture. They are mainly worn at festivals for fun, and you can also see them being worn in different Anime and video games. Anime such as Demon Slayer, Naruto, Into the Forest of Fireflie’s Light, and many many more.
Whether you’re planning to make one for a Cosplay, or just to hang it up on your wall and appreciate it, I hope you find this tutorial helpful!

It is said that this mask is mainly used at festivals at Inari Shrine.Very auspicious.
Inari sushi, kitsune udon, and kitsune soba are also called 'kitsune = fox', and the contents are fried tofu.

I’ve always wanted to have a fox/Kitsune mask for my face because I am really insecure about it. This really helped me calm down and usually there aren’t many tutorials how to make a homemade mask but this one is just the perfect one for people! I would love to make different coloured/colored masks for each holiday and use every one of them!

Yes you can, but make sure to crumple up your paper a couple times before using, so that it becomes softer and easier to use! ^^
For a mask made from a cereal box, this is absolutely incredible!

I watched this video to figure out how to make a Fox mask for one of my art class assignments. You were really helpful and I was able to make an amazing mask base thanks to you, but then when I went to your paper machete part I paused because my teacher gave me clay to do it. I open the package to find out that he gave me bad and cheap model magic, and that the base I worked so hard on wouldn’t even work. Thanks teach.
Otherwise, wonderful video! I’d love to come back and do it properly if I ever got the right materials.

I love how the steps are laid out clearly enough in this tutorial that you can make multiple types of animal mask using the same methods.
I've gathered up a crudton of cereal box in preparation for making my own mask soon hopefully!

Ahh, thank you so much for this! I wanted to order masks like this from amazon, to use as a base for an animal mask, but I was scared that they would come in bad condition or they wouldn't come at all (and the shipping is kinda expensive..). Now I can just try making one myself.

4 hours to make the base "from a little cardboard and a lot of tape :')" 3 minutes to make the paper mache, and 5 minutes to put the first layer, I'll come back later with more updates. :D

Beautiful work! I've been debating on either trying worbla or good ole fashion paper mache. Definitely gonna be doing this! Seems like it would be more convenient resource wise for my current situation, and you came out with such lovely work!
