    This band was actually from my hometown of Swansea, Wales. If you have the time, I highly suggest digging into their story, it’s one of the most interesting and very possibly the saddest in music history. They’re one of the most under-discussed bands of their era.

    • @BCS1105
      @BCS1105 Год назад +4

      @@sourisvoleur4854 I feel the same way. It’s so dreadfully sad that people just don’t bring it up. With how their management financially screwed them over, how death continued to awfully linger within the band even after Pete Ham’s passing, it’s an unbelievable story, the kind you sometimes only see in movies, but it’s also understandable why people don’t want to talk about it. It’s not exactly the most fun conversation to have. They created some of the greatest music in the world in my opinion, but their whole story, the tales behind it all…wow.

      @@fridaylong2812 Don’t even get me started on Stan Polley. There have been some scummy managers throughout music history. Colonel Tom Parker is actually the most perfect example in this context. If he hadn’t overworked and over-stressed Elvis Presley in the ways that he did, Elvis might still be here today. And if Stan Polley had never come along, Pete Ham and Tom Evans would still be here, probably touring alongside Joey Molland. But in both of the cases I’ve mentioned, sadly, they all ended badly. The corruption, cruelty and carelessness in the music industry runs deep, even to this day.

    I'll never ever forget first listening to Badfinger, with their first song "Come & Get It", all the way to the end. I was overjoyed that this song played such an important part in the series finale of an American classic TV show - "Breaking Bad". The very title was a main subject of the show. When this song came on just at the end, I actually got a tear in my eye. Perfect song.

    Love this group. Badfinger were a Welsh rock band from the 60's-80's. They became the first group signed by the Beatles' Apple label. Paul & George wrote & produced a few songs for them. They had some really big hits such as "Come & Get It", "No Matter What", "Day After Day", "Baby Blue" & "Without You". This group had quite a sad history. The band had bad mismanagement & lost most of their money, two members committed suicide & one died of a brain aneurysm.

    Lovin some Badfinger edit Pete ham stated that it was about a girl he met while on tour in the the US. After he went back home he was overwhelmed with responsibilities, and she thought he forgot her. He's assuring her otherwise. And YES Harri, Paul wrote their first hit song, but it was George that worked with them, even playing on a couple songs on this album.

  • @NoviJimB
    @NoviJimB Год назад +3

    It wasn't Paul or George who pushed for them to be signed, it was Mal Evans, the Beatles' road manager/assistant. He and Peter Asher, who at the time was the head of A & R for Apple, were invited to a show by Badfinger's manager (at the time they were still known as The Iveys). After seeing them play Evans went to all four of the Beatles to convince them to sign them. Paul ended up writing their first hit, 'Come And Get It'. He wrote it specifically for them. He recorded a demo, which is out here on RUclips, and told them to make it sound lust like the demo, which they did. George did some producing on the Straight Up album, after The Beatles had broken up, as well as playing slide guitar on 'Day After Day'.

    Several subscribers have already commented about this tune being used in the finale of "Breaking Bad." The use of the song in the background as the last show reached it's apex is so overwhelming perfect, you'd almost think the creators of the show started with the song and then worked backwards and created a backstory from that ending moment. The best use of a song with a tv show or move in history, in my opinion.

    Badfinger deserved a better fate, both musically and personally. All of them were great musicians and Pete Ham and Tom Evans were good song writers. Like the Beatles, they were not good businessmen and it took a toll on their personal life. Pete Ham committed suicide followed by Tom Evans some years later. Some say the final straw for them was the rights to the song "Without You", which they co-wrote and was a later hit by Harry Nillson. I'm sure it was alot deeper than that.

    Also, back when they were first signed, they had a different name before Badfinger. I don't know if it's a rock 'n' roll myth or a true story, but the original working title for "A Little Help From My Friends" was "Badfinger Boogie" which, in theory, was what they took their name from.

    It never got the plays it deserved. But in the Seventies there was fierce competition for air time so that could have been part of it.

    I dated the lead singer of Badfinger, Kevan Michaels, who replaced Pete Hamm, after he tragically died by suicide. This song was written by Pete about his girlfriend Dixie and the separation that being on tour does to romantic relationships. Kevan was only 17 at the time...Paul McCartney discovered him at a pub in Boston. He wrote an entire rock opera based on Dracula that survived on reel to reel tape. It was spectacular and never published due to record producers rejecting it in 1972 because "Tommy" had just been released by The Who and considered a one off. Tragic.

      I can assure you that nobody called Kevan Michaels was ever in Badfinger.

    Great reaction to one of the greatest songs ever!! It's a pity that reactors choose the album version instead of the radio "hit" version. The single version has much more powerful drums, & the lead guitar is slightly up in the mix - which it should be. In fact, all over the internet, people choose the album version to examine for some reason. The single version is now called "the US single mix - which is misleading. This mix was released worldwide except for the UK.

    This song is so sad, considering what later happened to the band.

    Great band with such a sad story... two suicides by main members due to unfulfilled promises.
    Watch George Harrison's concert for Bangladesh to see him utilize Bad Finger as a terrific backing band. Pete Hamm does a duet with Harrison on "Here Comes The Sun" with both his and George's guitars in total sync... just perfect.

    Album was called 'Straight up' Harrison produced this & several others even played slide guitar with Pete Hamm. 2 of the band hung themselves after losing everything to an American creep~.

    This band has a very tragic story. A few members committed suicide, they were screwed over by their manager........
