Most cameras have the light measured after the tungsten filter so when removing the filter it automatically adjusts for that. In this case it's made more complicated because by removing the tungsten filter it also needs to remove an ND filter.
I'm thinking of applying lubrication inside a 514XL to reduce its noise level as much as possible. Any advice on where and how to do this, or if it's advisable? There's nothing wrong the camera but I sometimes use it in extremely quiet environments and it's just loud enough to cause a bit of disturbance.

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand your reqest-on the 514XL, the aperture wheel is always visible in the viewfinder, there isn't a way to "get rid of it".
I really want one of these cameras but heard there was an issue of a plastic cog inside that degrades over time and is difficult to replace. Do you have any tips on how to fix that issue?
hey, i have a 518 auto zoom and i believe the autozoom motor is jammed and needs to be lubed but honestly i have no idea where the motor is or how to lube it properly any suggestions?
I think the 518AZ is totally different from the 514XL-if you're mechanically handy, you could try taking the camera apart. honestly, a lot of people get by without ever using the power zoom so that's probably what I'd suggest, especially if you're not as comfortable with repair.
@Forrest Bourke I got one recently, add I was thinking of removing the Lens and adapting it to a mirrorless camera. Is it possible that you know of to remove the lens from the body of the camera? I'f its not, I might not attempt disassembly :(
What are you trying to accomplish? The lens of this camera (and other super 8 cameras) is only designed to cover the 8mm frame, so you'll get a tiny circle in the middle of your mirrorless camera's sensor. I'm assuming that's not your goal?
@@madscienti11 I thought with creating an adapter, the correct flange distance might be able to cover the sensor. Ofc this would increase the focal length but yea. I wanted to simply adapt the lens to my camera
@@buddymiles7210 I don't think you're going to get a result that you'll like. The focal length of the lens won't change-it's an optical property of the lens itself. You can try and do the math yourself, but if you move the lens far enough away from your sensor to cover the whole thing, it'll be a super-macro-only lens. Let alone the issues of actually disassembling the lens from the camera... What is your goal? Are you just looking for a fast lens? The reason super 8 camera lenses can be so fast is because they optimize for the tiny coverage of the 8mm frame.
Hi there! Based on the body style, the 512XL looks more similar to the 814E or 814XL than the 514XL. My best guess from your description would be that there's a little gear that engages the zoom and it's either misaligned or stripped.

Did you remove both? If you notice in the video, I mention you only need to remove one-they're both screwed into a small metal bar with two threaded holes, and if you remove both screws the bar will fall away into the inside of the camera. What you can do is disassemble the camera again, find the small bar, and then attach it to one side of the camera body with one screw before putting the camera back together.
Hey there! The first issue you might be seeing is that the power zoom only works while filming. If that's not working, you may want to open the camera and see if the teeth around the barrel of the lens are stripped. Those teeth are plastic, whereas the gears driven by the motor are metal, so I think it's most likely the plastic would fail first.
When you say meter reading. Do you mean the LIGHT METER? because mine isnt working and i dont know if theres another meter. Also when i use the zoom buttons they push up when i press them and start doing a clicking noise which stutters it from zooming or stopping it completely.

I believe that is specific to the 514XL-S model, and the 514XL doesn't have as much of that particular issue.
